Nexium and diarrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and diarrhea

nexium

Avatar f tn I took Nexium for 5 or 6 years and each day was misery with uncontrollable diarrhea, and pain. I am almost certain that there is a connection. It has many side effects, but I no longer have my pharmacy print-out of the side effects listed. My doctor told me Prevacid would not cause severe colitis, but it did.
Avatar f tn I started on Prilosec and had diarrhea, then switched to Nexium and a variety of others to try to solve this problem (same results). Finally took Zantac, which is OK with my system. Btw, I never had leakage with any of these. The leakage occurred only in those 2 instances when I also had wine. Thanks for asking.
Avatar n tn Is it normal to get periods of feeling really sick in the stomach, vomiting, diarrhea and lack of energy with reflux? Things were ok, then i got a cold and went off my food and now everything has flared up.
Avatar f tn ve had diarrhea everyday for i cant remember how many years, my weight has always been a struggle and i too had my gallbladder removed in the end, they said it was diseased and that should have been the cause of the sickness and diarrhea but 5 years on and i dont remember my belly ever being normal yet.
Avatar n tn My wife has had chronic diarrhea since July and has had a minor heart attack due to low potassium. She has also developed a pain in the gall bladder area. Tests so far (upper and lower GI scope, CT scan of abdomen, ultra sound of gall bladder and numerous blood tests) have not been conclusive of anything other than microscopic colitis. She is on a variety of meds but nothing is stopping the diarrhea and she ends up in the hospital every few weeks to receive potassium through IV.

Avatar f tn Read the side effects to the prilosec, I know Nexium and others can have side effects that include diarrhea.

Avatar n tn This that it goes down my throat happened 10 years ago, when I was 30 pounds heavier. I took Prilosec and then Nexium and it solved the problem then. Now (I am normal weight now), when I remember, I take Pepcid AC and it seems to solve the problem for the next night. I am thinking of taking Prilosec or Nexium to permanently stop this from happening. What do you think?
Avatar f tn I’m convinced that it has something to do with one or both of the following. Related to lactose intolerance. And the other is that I have GERD and take Nexium for it. Maybe the Nexium keeps too much of the stomach acids away and therefore food can’t be digests properly and it ferments. I don’t know, but I’ll tell you that I can’t do another round of that! Wiped me right out. Hope this info helps. Sure wish someone could find a cure for this.
Avatar f tn Here we go. I have been diagnosed with IBS, but the only time I have had problems for 20 years were after certain meals I would dump and if I was up and active after 2am without eating anything then I would wake up at 4-5am having stomach spasms and bowel movements. Sometime diarrhea, sometimes normal. Now for the past 3 months I have been waking up at 4-5am 6 night of every week with spasms and having to have a bowel movement-diarrhea or normal-that lasts for at least 2 hours.
Avatar n tn You can take over the counter Zantac before eating. How often do you eat spicy food? Because if it bugs your stomach, I'd really suggest not eating it often. That can lead to stomach problems. If the Zantac doesn't help, try seeing a doctor. I take Nexium and Zantac (Ranitdine) and that doesn't always help, but I don't have the greatest stomach.
194838 tn?1303428544 Hi , I was wondering why OVCA can cause indigestion and other digestive and bowel problems . What is it that links it to the digestive system ? .
Avatar f tn I’m a 62 year old female, I was diagnosed with h pylori a few years ago and was treated with antibiotics. I have GERD and I’ve been taking nexium 40mg twice a day for about ten years, I also smoke. The past year I’ve been EXTREMELY bloated, it looks like I’m pregnant. I frequently have diarrhea and sometimes I puke up stomach acid. And for a few months these white smelly pieces come out of my mouth.
Avatar f tn After suffering from ibs symptoms for about 6 months I ended up in outpatients at the hospital one day with severe stomach pain. Another heap of test and they sent me home with a script for nexium and mylanta. Slowly the symptoms subsided but have continually come back worse and worse every time. I have just had a full blood work including thyroid and gastroscopy! But all was fine. Except my b12 levels.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was also diagnosed with the same thing and my Dr gave me Kapidex which is similar to Nexium. After 2 days on the pill, I starting having side effects of diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting for almost 3 days. They then switched me to Protonix which I am glad to say is working very well. So like CalGal said, it works differently with different people. Your daughter just needs to find one that works best for her. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn This immediately began relieving the indigestion and burning symptoms but by day 14 post op, the preop symptoms of vague abdominal pain and diarrhea with meals had begun to return. He is now on daily nexium only and seems to have no "burning" or indigestion type symptoms. However, he seems to have the abdominal cramping followed by diarrhea about every 2-3 days.
Avatar m tn I am a 24 year old male, and I was diagnosed with GERD around a year ago after getting an upper endoscopy. I was prescribed Nexium, and it seems to be working very well. Sometimes, I have an issue where I wake up in the middle of the night and feel like I have to go to the bathroom. My stomach will cramp very badly. When I go and sit on the toilet, my stomach will cramp even more, and I'll break out into a cold sweat. I start feeling nauseous, and there's only a little in the bowl.
Avatar f tn While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again. For the past 3 weeks, without Prilosec, I've had normal stools and since yesterday (the first day back on it) I've had loose stools again.
Avatar n tn while I was on 6-80mg Nexium a day, I had weird and chronic gastro-viruses and I believe Nexium kills all the acid in your stomach and then you are more prone to stomach viruses.
560753 tn?1216052052 After that he prescribed me with Nexium, Prilosec and that was it. I was ok for a month or so and then I developed constipation. So I was switching from diarrea to constipation on and off. The burping continue and it seems to happend before I get my period. Is 5:41 am and I got up because of gas in my stomach and diarrea. I haven't being able to have a deasent night of sleep for the past 4 days. That happens every month. And I just don't know what to do.
Avatar n tn look its your choice there is a sensible way of taking nexium and keeping fit and taking nexium and eating non-healthy, cheers.
Avatar n tn ve been having daily diarrhea and/or multiple soft stools for 3 months. It does not wake me up in the middle of the night but starts up about an hour after I wake. Starts with a slight burning feeling below my breastbone that slowly moves down my abdomen. Nexium isn't doing anything. I've been to my gastro 3 times and had numerous tests including stool testing (infection, parasite) tons of blood work (celiac, liver function, cbc, etc), colonoscopy, and abdominal ultrasound...
Avatar m tn So went to my gatro doc and she said probitics should help - so started them... well they did help some - then went to come constipation and diarrhea back and forth and still reeling problems with diarrhea yet today (6 weeks later)... had stool tests done for C Diff, and all the "bugs" salmenela etc... and all neg. NOW, I am afraid that this is a sign of HIV infections and I am really scared.
Avatar f tn I HAVE HAD LUPUS SINCE THE AGE OF 15 AND I AM NOW 25- MY LUPUS HAS BEEN IN REMISSION FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS NOW, BUT I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PERSISTENT VOMITING AND DIARRHEA FOR THE PAST 2 MNTHS. i HAVE BROUGHT IT UP TO MY DR AND HE STATES THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH LUPUS CAN DEVELOP STOMACH ULCERS, ESPECIALLY IN MY CASE, SINCE I HAVE TAKEN PREDNISONE FOR 10 YEARS+.
