Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin side effects swelling

neurontin

653169 tn?1303446369 ve been told the start up side effects on Neurontin are about the same as Lyrica and it took me a little less than a week for that sleepy dopey feeling to subside, and after that I felt ABSOLUTELY normal- like I hadn't taken anything whatsoever. You are on a very SMALL dose, so you'll adjust to it quickly. I'll tell you a funny story- my first week on Lyrica- I accidentally backed out of my garage when the garage door was only half way open.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your advise. How long does it take for Neurontin side effects (edema) to disappear? We stopped the Neurontin 36 hours ago and the swelling was somewhat reduced after sleeping for 5 hours.....especially in his lower legs. The edema returns when he walks around, so he's resting with legs elevated a lot today. He has good pedal pulses and any tenderness in his calves or feet is related to when the swelling increases.
959341 tn?1246884689 org/forum_disclaimers/show/296 is the site address. They will be happy to review side effects of equivalent drugs that you can talk to your doctor about. I have no personal experience with either of the choices here. sorry.
Avatar f tn I was given some sample bottles to try, but after reading the possible side effects and the possible effects from stopping its use, I decided to try some other ways of dealing with my neuropathy.
Avatar f tn Anyone have any side effects from starting neurontin or suggestions on how to adapt to using it. It's kicking my butt so far, so only taking it at night but a bit zoozy in the mornings. Am on 300mg, have titration orders but don't want to add any more at the present until I adjust to this night dose. anyone?
307897 tn?1242419260 Besides Lyrica and Neurontin, what other pain med is really out there for Fibromyalgia? I have taken both. Loved the Lyrica. I had no pain but the side effects were terrible, including the two broken toes. My GP put me on Neurontin and I am up to 600mg as of last Friday. One 300mg in the morning and one of the same at bedtime. I still have pain but not quite as bad but u know it's still there. I have some side effects from it, too, especially legs and ankles swelling daily.
Avatar f tn I've tried both Neurontin and Lyrica in the past for nerve pain. I had the same side effects as you. I did find it gave me some pain relief, though. I stayed on it for a month, but I just couldn't stand that "drunk" feeling. I also felt really disconnected. I could be in the middle of a conversation and I'd just stop talking and then not remember what the conversation was about. I stopped taking it as I felt like my quality of life was worse with it than without it.
Avatar f tn Yes it has lots of side effects. Everyone does not get them all just be aware. I am on 16 drugs and keeping up with all the side effects and counter effects with other drugs is a nightmare. My Doctors who are prescribing them get confused at the counteractions. Also make sure you ask a Pharmacist before you take something for heartburn or a cold sometimes those drugs interact. Just do not ever just stop taking it. You have to taper off with a Doctor or Pharmacists help.
Avatar f tn I took neurontin for approx 10 years. It helped with my muscle spasms a great deal. I finally developed a tolerance to it up to the maximum recommended dosage, so switched to a different med. But it worked very well for me, with low side effects. Good luck.
2040403 tn?1329847040 Good Morning everyone! OK Here it goes! About 6 months ago my PCP scripted me Neurontin to help combat my sciatica pain and it worked wonders! I mean it took my sciatica pain from an 8-9 to a 3-4! After 1 week on this new miracle drug, my left ankle and foot began to swell, turn bright red and burn quite intensely. My PCP advised me to stop medication immediately. One week later, all was back to normal. I was referred to and saw a Pain Management doc this past Wednesday (Feb. 15).
Avatar m tn This drug should not be discontinued abruptly after long term use because it can lead to withdrawal syndrome. Most common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, and swelling of extremities. On the other hand, amitriptyline or Elavil, is a tricyclic antidepressant. It is officially approved as a preventive medication for patients with frequent migraines and chronic fatigue syndrome.
9704730 tn?1405741284 I still take 1200 mgs and there are days when I feel the strange side effects of Neurontin. Please include your prescribing dr in any discontinuance of your meds. Good Luck to you and go for it.
Avatar n tn Anyone taking neurontin for anxiety? I was started on it almost 3 weeks ago...I was started out only on 100mg at bedtime, now I"m taking 200mg. Has anyone had any horrible side effects? After the 200mg I feel sort of drugged and really sleepy (although it didn't help me sleep, odd.) Just wondering what your experiences are.
Avatar f tn Im taking 600 mgs of Neurontin daily i have side effects but aspirines has some too..
Avatar f tn com are two that will list millions of medications and a bunch of side effects and so forth. But I WILL say this, you should stay on your Neurontin, it is a good medicine for what ails you, and simply drink extra water, and you should not have a bunch more digestive problems than you already have, except for this note, that all medicines have the side effect to some degree or another of upsetting the tummy, so you have to follow instructions as to whether to take it with or without food...
Avatar f tn t have any severe side effects of concern, some dizziness, fatigue, nervousness and some minor nausea, all of which might have gone away in time if I had stayed on it longer. The only part that was annoying was the fact (don't know if its that way for every use) for it to work it had to be taken four times a day which was hard to remember but could be solved by keeping a pill box and/or other reminder devices.
Avatar f tn You are experiencing side effects of Neurontin, is all. Diff people react diff ways to it. Me, I have nausea that bothers me a lot. The weight gain you ask about is one of the side effects, as are the other problems you are having. I've been taking it for two years, and I also started out on Lyrica, but becuz of cost I had to switch. Neurontin has only been around for about 15 years, so for at least for that length of time you're good.
1831849 tn?1383228392 I have taken gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. It worked well for a while, in tandem with Elavil. I had no side effects, but it eventually stopped working, so I swithed to another anti-seizure med called Lyrica. Anyone else have gabapentin experience to share?
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply. I can relate to your sons side effects. It takes a lot to keep a 10 year old down! I don't know which is worse, the head/neck pain or feeling so bad all the time. I hope your son is doing well now. Nothing worse than having your child sick and feeling bad. Thanks again!
Avatar m tn m not saying to take it or not just saying the other drugs have worse side effects. I was asked to take Lyrica. The side effects don't look so good including gaining about 15 pounds so I have't tried it yet. I still may try it if things don't improve substantially.. I was taking 1200mg/day of Neurontin (gabapentin). Good luck. You may also want to think of a tricyclic antidepressant (which you mentioned an SSRI) they are supposed to help with pain.
