Avatar n tn Hi Ergo... I don't like to submit before the physician, but on matters concerning Neurontin, I believe that I can help. I've been taking 3600 mgs daily for over 6 years in unison with several other pain medications. I wouldn't consider reducing this medication if you are reaping the rewards that it has to offer at 2400 mgs daily. There are some pretty "sleepy" side effects in conjunction with "lack of focus" regarding this medication. But...
Avatar n tn Each person is different when talking side effects. We may all get the same type of side effects but to a different degree. I only lasted 7 weeks. Headache, nausia, mouth and throat soars, soars around the eyes and hair loss. You could be lucky and have some of these but much more mild. I don't think anyone will know how they will personally react until they try. I believe we all have to try. If you do, good luck. I hope it goes well. Cathie.
Avatar n tn I had low back pain on the left side for a few days that went through to the left side in my side. Then it went into my left hip. The pain was so bad that I could not hardly walk.My primary health care doctor gave me a steroid shot and a pain shot. This helped for a few days. Now the pain is still in my left side and in my left hip, only in my back if I over do it.Can anyone give me advice.
600857 tn?1230061370 Hi Gretchen. Please do not worry about Neurontin. I have taken it for a long time and at twice the dose your at. I have not had one problem from it and it does work on my nerve pain. I have had absolutely no side effects even from the increases I've had. In my opinion, it is a completely safe drug. If you have any douts about it then Google "Neurontin Side Effects" it should give you a really good indepth look at the drug.
Avatar f tn Hi, Shingles or chicken pox in adults is caused due to the reactivation of the virus in the nerves and the development of the typical rash involving some portions of the body. Due to the involvement of nerves, the residual effects if not promptly treated with anti-virals, may be pain or abnormal sensations, similar to what you are having presently. Usually these may be restricted to the area of skin involvement or adjacent areas only.
Avatar n tn However I will try to provide you with some useful information on Essential Tremor and its treatment. First, regarding your concerns about side effects. In general, it can be said that if you look hard enough any medication can cause any side effect. Having said this, in younger adults such as yourself, tolerance to many of the side effects develop (after you have taken the medication for a few weeks, the side effects lessen).
335728 tn?1331418012 I'm just going to talk about the two meds in light of their dosing, their side effects and how it might be viewed in you. I agree with you that your daily pattern of increasing symptoms sounds more like a drug effect than an exacerbation of MS. The first thing that comes to mind is that the Paratrigeminal Neuralgia "developed" while you were already on the Tegretol. But, also that you were on a very small dose of it as adults go.
Avatar f tn All medications, including Aspirin - come with side effects. One of Lyrica's side effects is weight gain. Yup - I've gained 17lbs in a year. I'm currently attempting to reduce my weight - but I'll take those pounds to have relief from the nerve pain. It's been an awesome addition to my pain relieving regime. It's also pricey as there are no Generics - yet. I've told you a bit about my journey to find Neuropathic Pain relief in hopes that it will give you some guidance and encouragement.
874521 tn?1424120397 If anyone can tell me what their initial side effects were in the first 1-2 months of topamax were and if they started to ease up please let me know!
Avatar f tn I've had migraines all my life, but I started having numbness/tingling on my left side. Started in my face then arm then leg within a few days, they ordered the MRI and found the ACM. I have been having worsening symptoms over the years, left side feels heavy, dropping things, and worsening headaches. On Saturday I woke up with vomitting that would not stop, it was at least every 20 minutes for 9 hours and my husband took me to the emergency room for IVF and Reglan.
Avatar n tn He also wants to double the neurontin to 1800mg a day - I hav'nt done it as I am reluctant to add more side effects into the mix.
Avatar f tn I do not have the name of that in front of me at the moment but one of the possible side effects is permanent tremors in arm. I took him to the er one day but he was not having one, I explained to the mental health team exactly what was happening and they just asked him a bunch of questions and handed me a support group paper. My son cannot work because he gets these outbursts at every job hes ever had..
544292 tn?1268886268 Not my fault that I had to snicker at the last line there because every time I talked to my Doctors (plural) about medications and side effects they told me that Tramadol was NOT the problem. Then there was usually another drug put on top of that Tramadol. And they told me to take more. I always thought it was the other drug, not the Tramadol. Yeah. I was wrong. It makes me very angry that these Doctors know and aren't telling people. I don't believe that they are ignorant.
936133 tn?1244832491 Anyone who takes pain medications more than twice a week is in danger of perpetuating their headaches. Occasional usage of pain medications several times in one week is permissible, as long as it is not a regular pattern. For instance, using pain medication several days in a row during the perimenstrual period is certainly permissible. 2. Regular exercise helps reduce headaches. Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins in the brain. These are chemicals that actually suppress pain.
Avatar n tn The hospital staff when I had the epidural drip done never told me of the consequences of the epidural I am learning now that the side effects can be disabling. My mother told me natural drug free birthing was the way cavemen did it for centuries I took the medical chicken way out to escape the pain. Sure I was numb from the waste down when the kids were born. With one vaginal birth and one c-section I learned having epidurals can not oh be a friend but your enemy.
544292 tn?1268886268 Hi Everyone and Welcome, Come on in and make yourself cozy. You can do this!
Avatar m tn Others moved in for an extended stay even though they were never invited or welcomed. I basically chalked everything up to side effects and it seems that I was correct in doing so, since almost everything is now gone. However, that does not mean some side effects are very intense and troublesome. I would be very nervous about reducing drug dosages for any reason so I definitely would not be reducing them for stabbing sensations. I wonder if something like Neurontin (Gabapentin) might help.
Avatar m tn While it is effective,by the time you take enough to put a dent in the side effects.you've taken a toxic level of acetaminophine.I've seen a lot of research saying that methadone is best for side effects, doesn't effect the antivirals, and seems(it is difficult to get conclusive statements on this last one)to damage the liver the least.Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Most of the medications didn't help and the ones that do have undesirable side effects, mostly having to do with fatigue, concentration and mood changes. The medications did help my headaches but that is not my primary concern right now. Various medications I have tried are Klonopin, Depakote, Neurontin, Zoloft, Acetazolamide, Zofran and Baclofen (most of these medications were combined with klonopin). Neurological exam, ENT exam, eye exam, MRI, and rotational chair test all normal.
1437229 tn?1296073620 Bethany, meds like Neurontin should never be doubled. The patient is likely to get really weird side effects, and then just quit the med. Please see http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/Nerve-Neuropathic-Pain---A-Primer/show/371?cid=36 and other Health Pages that talk about neuropathic pain. You need to move up very slowly, and your chances of success will be much higher. Mark, thanks so much for all the info about power chairs.
Avatar n tn Phenobarbitol can be very sedating, especially in an adult. People do get use to it and there are some adults on this medication that are considered normal intelligence. It is an older medication and so the management is well known. It covers a wide variety of seizure types. However, we know that it is a mitochondrial poison. It affects many other types of medications. But again, you are being managed by someone else and they are undoubtly doing what is best for you.
Avatar n tn The dilemma may not be as bad as you think as the side effects of Neurontin are extremely mild and are absent in most case, the drug is unique among anti-seizure medications in having such a benign side effect profile, most people have no side effects and even then only at high doses. This would be my choice of anticonvulsant also as your seizures/ auras are so mild.

335728 tn?1331418012 Just warning you about the supposed bad taste, and hopefully the potency of the Sativex will prove more benficial to you than ganga in it's more popular form, and with less side effects (I know we've talked about this before). And your doc OFFERED you pot?? No DMDs but pot's ok?? LOL Ok, so it's not POT, but close enough! Good Luck, keep me updated, I'd love to know if it helps you!
Avatar f tn All in all, I hope these side effects are worth it! I hope I see a difference in the migraines and maybe even the loss of appetite (hopefully)! If not, I'm definitly stopping this. I dont like feeling like I'm staring into space all day!!! Have a great weekend!!
Avatar n tn Dear Deedee, since the motor and sensory signals from/to your brain are crossed (as they are in all of us - right goes left, left goes right), the normal state for all people is that motor/sensation control centers in the brain are in the opposite side as the side of the body they control. So I guess I'm wondering why this isn't just a clear-cut tumor story. There are several places in the brain this tumor could be, and which could cause the symptoms you are having.
Avatar f tn Not wanting to be in anymore pain than I already was in, I took another 10 mg tab. In about 30 minutes, I began to feel woozy and realized with horror that I may not have actually thrown up the second pill. I have been so diligent about taking my medication as directed, and have always been in compliance according to my drug screens, but I am mortified that I have messed up big time.
