ve been told the start up side effects on Neurontin are about the same as Lyrica and it took me a little less than a week for that sleepy dopey feeling to subside, and after that I felt ABSOLUTELY normal- like I hadn't taken anything whatsoever. You are on a very SMALL dose, so you'll adjust to it quickly. I'll tell you a funny story- my first week on Lyrica- I accidentally backed out of my garage when the garage door was only half way open.

Anyone have any side effects from starting neurontin or suggestions on how to adapt to using it. It's kicking my butt so far, so only taking it at night but a bit zoozy in the mornings. Am on 300mg, have titration orders but don't want to add any more at the present until I adjust to this night dose. anyone?

Yes it has lots of side effects. Everyone does not get them all just be aware. I am on 16 drugs and keeping up with all the side effects and counter effects with other drugs is a nightmare. My Doctors who are prescribing them get confused at the counteractions. Also make sure you ask a Pharmacist before you take something for heartburn or a cold sometimes those drugs interact. Just do not ever just stop taking it. You have to taper off with a Doctor or Pharmacists help.

I took neurontin for approx 10 years. It helped with my muscle spasms a great deal. I finally developed a tolerance to it up to the maximum recommended dosage, so switched to a different med. But it worked very well for me, with low side effects. Good luck.

d find a way to pay for it somehow, given the difficulty of finding meds that work, but the new meds will take time. Neurontin, in particular, usually needs to have the dose raised periodically and it might be too low at this point for you to notice. It's also not intended to relieve anxiety, it's a beneficial bonus, but as with any med it might not work for you.

I was given some sample bottles to try, but after reading the possible side effects and the possible effects from stopping its use, I decided to try some other ways of dealing with my neuropathy.

I might add, since I take a cousin of the medicine, Lyrica, and also had IBS a few years ago (from a different drug I was taking), that those Gaba medicines can dry out a person a little, which then might goof up digestion sometimes, and also the mouth will dry out sometimes. A very simple thing to do, to offset that particular side effect, is to drink several extra glasses of water every day. Anyone taking neurontin for anxiety? I was started on it almost 3 weeks ago...I was started out only on 100mg at bedtime, now I"m taking 200mg. Has anyone had any horrible side effects? t have any severe side effects of concern, some dizziness, fatigue, nervousness and some minor nausea, all of which might have gone away in time if I had stayed on it longer. The only part that was annoying was the fact (don't know if its that way for every use) for it to work it had to be taken four times a day which was hard to remember but could be solved by keeping a pill box and/or other reminder devices.

You are experiencing side effects of Neurontin, is all. Diff people react diff ways to it. Me, I have nausea that bothers me a lot. The weight gain you ask about is one of the side effects, as are the other problems you are having. Neurontin has only been around for about 15 years, so for at least for that length of time you're good.

I have taken gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. It worked well for a while, in tandem with Elavil. I had no side effects, but it eventually stopped working, so I swithed to another anti-seizure med called Lyrica. Anyone else have gabapentin experience to share?

m not saying to take it or not just saying the other drugs have worse side effects. I was asked to take Lyrica. The side effects don't look so good including gaining about 15 pounds so I have't tried it yet. I still may try it if things don't improve substantially.. I was taking 1200mg/day of Neurontin (gabapentin). Good luck. You may also want to think of a tricyclic antidepressant (which you mentioned an SSRI) they are supposed to help with pain.

I never tried neurontin (or "morontin" as it's also known for mental side effects) but I did try topomax for a while. Topomax is a similar medication. I got every side effect listed including tongue paralysis. These meds can be a great blessing or a great curse and there is no telling how a patient will react to them. They act on the central nervous system, so weird things can crop up. Usually you need to titre up slowly and taper off slowly.

I am on Gabapentin 300mg 2 a day, I have had weight gain since being on them, I have gained 15 lbs in 2 months time. I am sitting here thinking if he ups my meds like he wants to the side effect of weight gain will only get worse. I talked to the people where I get Gabapentin and they said that that side effect don't go away and if the dose is inceased it will only get worse so if the med isn't helping me there are other options.

Typically the side-effects include somnolence, dizziness, and imbalance. Since you have been using Neurontin for 9 years, there does not seem to be a problem continuing it, even at a slightly increased dose. Also, Neurontin is not known to be triggering/escalating Alzheimer's disease. Best..

I'm taking the generic form, just recently resumed but have used it in the past. Neurontin is Rx-ed for nerve pain as an "off label" use, that it, treating nerve pain is not the function for which it was designed so it's not listed as a use on the manufacturer's label. It is actually an anti-seizure med, but it was found to also reduce neuropathy in patients. It is my understanding that Lyrica works much in the same way, and is a newer medication by the same company.

Make an appointment to see your doctor to discuss this problem with him. If he has not prescribed for you to increase the medication, then it really is not wise to increase it without his supervision. It may be that this could be a side effect from increasing the dose. i have been on neurontin for yrs..no side effects cept a bit longer sleep for the first mth..i only take it at night...they tried me on lyrica and that drug affected my sensorium..i did not tolerate it due to the slurred speech it caused and fatigue..i work full time and can not walk around like a zombie...others have had great success with lyrica when they reach the right dose..and maybe i coulda..

Neurontin has alot of side effects. I took it and Ik alot of other people that have taken it and that are now taking it. I personally feel that the bad outweighs the good when it comes to this drug and Lyrica. There are so many bad side effects. Pitted edema, weight gain, blurred vision, sleep eating, can cause more pain than before you started, hangover into next day, brain fog, headaches etc... Just look up adverse reactions to this drug and see if you are experiencing them.

I just started Lyrica yesterday. I was so scared to start because of all the side effects. Well, was wondering, if anyone else is taking it, and if so, do the side effect go away after awhile? I felt REALLY drunk all day. Glad I didn't have to do much! Should I take at bed time instead of morning?
