Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin side effects memory

neurontin

Avatar f tn You are experiencing side effects of Neurontin, is all. Diff people react diff ways to it. Me, I have nausea that bothers me a lot. The weight gain you ask about is one of the side effects, as are the other problems you are having. I've been taking it for two years, and I also started out on Lyrica, but becuz of cost I had to switch. Neurontin has only been around for about 15 years, so for at least for that length of time you're good.
451366 tn?1211304932 s effect on the GABA neurotransmitter. Memory problems are common side effects for the same reason and the close relation between GABA and glutamate, glutamate being involved in learning and memory. Other side effects more likely to happen in women are dizziness, tiredness, balance problems.
653169 tn?1303446369 ve been told the start up side effects on Neurontin are about the same as Lyrica and it took me a little less than a week for that sleepy dopey feeling to subside, and after that I felt ABSOLUTELY normal- like I hadn't taken anything whatsoever. You are on a very SMALL dose, so you'll adjust to it quickly. I'll tell you a funny story- my first week on Lyrica- I accidentally backed out of my garage when the garage door was only half way open.
1283286 tn?1312911966 It is the medication that made her so fat. Look up the side effects in Google. Neurontin and Lyrica are both severe weight gaining and hardly help. My friend had the same nerve pains but "believed" in Neurontin, and I did not dare to say that she is round like a beer barrel. One must put every pill like on a scale and see, "Is it worth it or not"....Since she had anyway nerve pains, I just was wondering but did not want to hurt her feelings.
Avatar f tn Anyone have any side effects from starting neurontin or suggestions on how to adapt to using it. It's kicking my butt so far, so only taking it at night but a bit zoozy in the mornings. Am on 300mg, have titration orders but don't want to add any more at the present until I adjust to this night dose. anyone?
Avatar m tn Your other drugs may be causing the problem, especially the Neurontin which has concentration problems as a main side effect which can get worse the longer you take it. If you feel it is the Simvastatin, you can always ask your doctor about going off of it for a short while to see if it improves. This is a rare side effect of Simvastatin so I would look elsewhere for the problem. You should speak to your doctor.
210982 tn?1280983895 Some users do report euphoria at much higher levels than others, so there is a risk of psychological addiction with these people. Also, as was mentioned, there are attenuate side effects, with memory loss and weight gain being prominent. Read the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyrica and speak to your pharmacist for more info.
Avatar f tn Yes it has lots of side effects. Everyone does not get them all just be aware. I am on 16 drugs and keeping up with all the side effects and counter effects with other drugs is a nightmare. My Doctors who are prescribing them get confused at the counteractions. Also make sure you ask a Pharmacist before you take something for heartburn or a cold sometimes those drugs interact. Just do not ever just stop taking it. You have to taper off with a Doctor or Pharmacists help.
Avatar f tn I have had no other side effects...possibly slight memory problems particular spelling (yes my doctor has confirmed this maybe associated) Here in Canada it has been on the News condemning doctors for using it 'off label' for chronic pain...............I was never told by any doctor to use this drug for chronic pain, its off label use here is sited for 'nerve pain' such as sciatica and neuropathy. I am very happy with the results, I am on 1800mg, but do build up slowly!
18432675 tn?1464832893 I have Peripheral Neuropathy in Both Feet and Hands. Specifically ... Axonal Peripheral Neuropathy.Moderate to Severe. Finally got a Diagnosis after 18 months and 9 Doctors. Started taking Neurontin 100 mg. 3 times a day. As soon as I went up to 300 mg. 3 times a day, I noticed Severe Short Term Memory Loss. Spacial Memory Loss. Horrible!! I was leaving my keys in department stores. I forget Everything!! I feel like a Different Person.
Avatar m tn You might ask if there is another drug besides Neurontin that might help the pain without so many side effects. Unfortunately most drugs have untoward effects but some more than others. You might consider a consult at a Pain Management Clinic and get some additional help there. Other than that it's mostly time. Regards ...
Avatar f tn I took neurontin for approx 10 years. It helped with my muscle spasms a great deal. I finally developed a tolerance to it up to the maximum recommended dosage, so switched to a different med. But it worked very well for me, with low side effects. Good luck.
539209 tn?1225972263 Lyrica is wonderful once you get passed the side effects,,usually takes a week,,,,,Also lyrica is a schedule 5 drug,,with Morphine componants
Avatar f tn If you did have ADHD the Cymbalta probably would have helped with those symptoms, lol. I didn't have this when I took Cymbalta, but did with Effexor. Unfortunately, these medications are not without side-effects and CNS hyper-arousal is one of them (in some people). It's good that you discontinued it. Maybe something like Neurontin would be more helpful, with less side-effects. Take care.
Avatar n tn I've been on a couple of different SSRI's Paxil(generic) and now on Prozaz. I have noticed that my memory doesn't seem to be as good as it use to be. I've always attributed to getting older and having a ton more stress in my life. I've done a lot of research on SSRI side effects and have never seen anything documented about memory loss. Getting off of Paxil (if that's what you decide to do) is very difficult.
Avatar f tn t have the other side effects. But just wanted to say that what is going through seems typical for this medication. As far as how long this will last now that he is off the meds im not sure.
Avatar n tn Atypical antipsychotics can have a lot of side effects. If you think your memory problems are from the seroquel, talk to your doctor about changing your meds around. If they're for schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, you'll need to stay on some sort of antipsychotic, but different ones have different side effect profiles for different people. If it's for bipolar or as an add on for depression, you can switch drug classes entirely, which might work better for you.
9704730 tn?1405741284 I still take 1200 mgs and there are days when I feel the strange side effects of Neurontin. Please include your prescribing dr in any discontinuance of your meds. Good Luck to you and go for it.
Avatar n tn Anyone taking neurontin for anxiety? I was started on it almost 3 weeks ago...I was started out only on 100mg at bedtime, now I"m taking 200mg. Has anyone had any horrible side effects? After the 200mg I feel sort of drugged and really sleepy (although it didn't help me sleep, odd.) Just wondering what your experiences are.
Avatar f tn No it sounds like you are either have a bad side effect from gabapentin or are allergic to it. I took 1200mg a day for several months and had no side effects other than being tired and memory problems. I haven't taken baclofen, so i don't know the side effect of that drug. Usually, muscle relaxers don't give you that bad of a headache. You may want to try Flexeril or another muscle relaxer.
Avatar f tn When I was having my bouts with severe nerve pain it worked very well and fairly quickly, so I just started taking it as needed, but still had some terrible side effects, not ones that I was able to withstand, like I said mainly the memory problems and the weight gain was so signifigant that Im still trying to shed those pounds a year later. I really have nothing good to say about Lyrica besides when I did have burning nerve pain it did take it away.
Avatar f tn I was given some sample bottles to try, but after reading the possible side effects and the possible effects from stopping its use, I decided to try some other ways of dealing with my neuropathy.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with the following side effects due to taking benzo's and if anyone has found a way to alleviate any of them.
Avatar f tn Im taking 600 mgs of Neurontin daily i have side effects but aspirines has some too..
Avatar f tn t have any severe side effects of concern, some dizziness, fatigue, nervousness and some minor nausea, all of which might have gone away in time if I had stayed on it longer. The only part that was annoying was the fact (don't know if its that way for every use) for it to work it had to be taken four times a day which was hard to remember but could be solved by keeping a pill box and/or other reminder devices.
