Neupogen white blood cells

Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen white blood cells

neupogen

Avatar m tn hi i got my labs back and my white blood cells are 900 what can i do i on week two of treatment my doc.
Avatar f tn The neutrophils are a part of the white cells. The total white count is not what they look at. When your ANC is around 500 they like to start the neupogen.
Avatar f tn I JUST WENT TO THE DR AND TOLD ME MY WHITE BLOOD CELLS WERE LOW SO THEY REDUCED MY MEDICATION THEN I WENT BACK 12 WEEKS LATER AND THEY DROPPED EVEN LOWER I HAD TO GET AN THIS TREATMNET ***** INJECTION
457651 tn?1208363102 Hi. Is your white cell count still low at this time? The Neupogen should raise your white cell counts 24 hours after it was given, so you should have your CBC repeated a full day after, to see if the drug had any effect. If the counts haven't gone back to normal levels, additional doses of Neupogen should be given. Low blood counts, either red or white cells, can cause fatigue.
Avatar f tn First, welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will be able to find a lot of good support here. I'm sorry to hear that treatment i s messing around with your white blood cells. I think it would be wise to follow your doctor's advice and see how it goes. If your body still cannot take the drugs, then obviously you will have to stop. Then you can go back to the alternative maintenance treatment, wait for the newer drugs and try again.
351119 tn?1201042730 Hi Diana...Your Mum could have Neupogen or Neulasta shots to boost the white cells if they are down. I've had Neupogen a couple of times when my white cells were low, but it does make the bones sore, so I just eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies, and don't seem to have any problem in staying on schedule for my chemo. I hope your Mum continues to do well, and she gets great results at the end of it all. Best wishes and hugs...Helen...
Avatar m tn In regards to increasing white cells, or managing the virus?
687700 tn?1227103821 Neupogen is a man-made form of a protein that stimulates the growth of white blood cells in your body. White blood cells help your body fight against infection. Neupogen is used to treat neutropenia, a lack of certain white blood cells caused by cancer, bone marrow transplant, receiving chemotherapy, or by other conditions.
244899 tn?1313624639 No, Neuposgen does not help with the fatique. Neupogen helps to build white blood cells which help in infection fighting, but I don't think you can feel when the white blood cells are low - unless you are prone to infection. What is your hemoglobin.. This is the red blood cell count that reflects how much oxygen the red blood cells contain. When it gets low you feel really tired. Chances are that is what your fatique is.
Avatar m tn It sounds to me like your ANC, absolute neutrophil count, went down to 0.5, a level which many GI's and Hepa's use as the threshold for starting neupogen. The neupogen often brings up the ANC quickly, but the interferon knocks it back down. You will need to continue to monitor it and may need to continue through the end of trt. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Should I be corcern that my white cells are too low ? The nurse have told me no to inject myself this week.
5249831 tn?1407713726 Neupogen is used to stimulate the production of granulocytes (a type of white blood cell) in patients undergoing therapy that will cause low white blood cell counts. Neupogen is used to prevent infection and neutropenic (low white blood cells) fevers caused by chemotherapy. Neupogen is a support medication. http://chemocare.com/chemotherapy/drug-info/Neupogen.
Avatar f tn Unless I'm misunderstanding something, Neupogen is not the right medication for your husband. Neupogen is used to increase white blood cells. You said your husband's red blood cells are down, which means that he is anemic, and the correct management of anemia for someone on triple tx with Incivek should be 1) reduce the ribavirin dosage in 200 increments, 2) transfusion, and 3) Procrit, which is a medication that helps the body increase red blood cells.
Avatar m tn ve always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections. This is usually mild and is caused by the bone marrow working harder to produce more white cells.
Avatar m tn You’ll probably be better served by monitoring ‘absolute neutrophils’ rather than white blood cells during HCV treatment. Neutrophils are the fraction of white blood cells that are responsible for bacterial surveillance; this is generally the chief concern. This value is usually included in the CBC; if not, your doctor can help you calculate it using other values. The drug Neupogen promotes white blood cell production; it has been used effectively for several years for this purpose.
Avatar n tn A low white blood cell count is to be expected while on treatment. The interferon injection is responsible for that. The thing is that the docs don't want it to go "too low." It seems that your doc is on top of things and is watching it. If your doc decides he needs to re-evaluate your dosage, ask him/her about a shot of Neupogen instead of reducing your meds.
Avatar f tn White blood cells are the infection-fighting cells in the blood. There are different types of white blood cells, including neutrophils (polymorphonuclear leukocytes; PMNs), band cells (slightly immature neutrophils), T-type lymphocytes (T cells), B-type lymphocytes (B cells), monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. All the types of white blood cells are reflected in the white blood cell count.
764075 tn?1234495599 m not seeing for Tx calls me this afternoon to say that the lab had contacted him to inform him of the result of the CBC? and that my white blood count was extremely low?. Now my internist and I have been monitoring this monthly, but the Doc. really scared me? He said his concern was if I was having any out of the ordinary side effects? Can anyone give me the 411 on white blood cell count and Tx? Will not know my recent labs until next week.
Avatar f tn Jan are you getting neulesta neupogen, or Epogen and or procrit... big difference.. as you know one is for white blood cells..( neulesta neupogen) and the other that is for red blood cells.. Epogen and or procrrit... My oncologist gives me neupogen for white blood cells but would not touch the other at all.. She believes that is causes more problems than it is worth including faster tumor growth...
1327032 tn?1288840755 Denise, your white blood cells are part of your immune system; they keep infections away. Depending on how low they are, it might be good to keep away from things like ER rooms, day care centers, anything that might expose you to infection or illness. If it was serious, they probably would have given you specific instructions. Look on your labs (when you receive them) for ANC (absolute neutrophil count); it gets rather serious if they fall below .50 (500).
Avatar n tn Neupogen is a man-made form of a protein that stimulates the growth of white blood cells in your body. White blood cells help your body fight against infection. Neupogen is used to treat neutropenia, a lack of certain white blood cells caused by the pegylated interferon treatment. Epogen is a man-made form of a protein that helps your body produce red blood cells. The amount of this protein in your body may be reduced when you use certain medications.
Avatar f tn Hi, Neupogen is a granulocyte colony stimulating factor which helps in the formation of new WBCs (white blood cells). These are infection fighting cells which get depleted by chemotherapy drugs. Paclitaxel (Taxol) is a chemotherapy drugs which is used to kill cancer cells. Therefore Neupogen is not a substitute for Paclitaxel. Neupogen may be given with chemotherapy to prevent the depletion of WBCs.
Avatar m tn I suppose if they were really trying to accelerate the process, they could order Neupogen injections to stimulate bone marrow production of white cells, but I doubt it’s indicated. Your white cells should steadily increase on their own; I imagine at 30-60 days post therapy, you should be in pretty good shape. A hearty congratulations for completing your treatment, and good luck with the outcome!
Avatar f tn Tewewas: I found this simple bilirubin definition during a Google search, "Bilirubin — Produced when red blood cells break down." Treatment destroys red blood cells. It's likely your elevated bilirubin is caused by the decaying RBCs.
Avatar f tn It doesn't matter how low the white blood cells are as long as the NEUTROPHILS are okay. Neutrophils are white cells that protect you against bacterial infections.
Avatar f tn Neulasta is a peglated version of Neupogen which is also know as filgrastim. It's used to stimulate production of neutrophils, a component of whilte blood cells. It can be taken less often than regular 'ol Neupogen. I found it rougher than Neupgen in that it had some side effects, mainly bone pain. I found Neupogen to be side-less. Aranesp is Darbepoetin Alfa which is like Procrit (epo). It is also taken less often than Procrit.
537799 tn?1222116971 Neupogen is given for low white blood cells. It is injected usually once a week I think. It helps raise your levels. Has your doctor mentioned putting you on it? What are your numbers? If your levels haven't dropped low enough yet he will not prescribe but it's something to keep in mind. Mine dropped the 7th week and I had to reduce my peg dosage. They came back up so no rescue drugs for me yet. Good luck and I hope you feel better.
Avatar n tn She is being treated with Aranesp and Neupogen. Her white cells were measured this week at 7.7, red cells at 3.41, hemoglobin at 8.9 and platelets at 69. She is tired and sleeps 18+ hours a day. I have offered other drugs to her doctor, but he always says "it's not applicable to her due to her general health condition. My mother's vitals are great. Looking for suggestions, drugs, insight that may better serve my mom.
Avatar f tn How will this impact your treatment? When you start back up you will be starting at week one again. You can't just be pulled off treatment when your WBC goes to 2 and you especially should not be pulled this early in treatment. How much Hep C experience does your doctor have? I suggest talking with him or seeing if you can locate a hepatologist - a liver specialist. As others, my WBC hoovered at 1 throughout my treatment . I received Neupogen to bring up my white count.
