Do any of you have information about any long term side effects if you had Neupogen for 40 weeks?

Apparently your ANC has dropped low enough that your doctor wants to start you on Neup. If your white count doesn't come up enough to avoid it, consider yourself lucky you have rescue drugs available because otherwise you would have to discontinue treatment. I don't think neupogen will cause anymore risks than the SOC drugs you are taking now. Not enough data on how tx drugs will effect us down the road. Treatment is hard work and you have to expect the unexpected.

Just started on Neupogen last week on Thursday morning on 3rd wk of tx with Pegasys and Ribavirin. PA ordered me to do labs for CBC every week on Tuesdays so she can review my results on Wednesdays and tell me if i need Neupogen week by week. Well, got lab done this Tuesday and called in after 24hrs on Wednesday to clinic to ask the PA to call me back. Never did. The clinic closes and so I left a message to page the doctor who promised to have a staff call me about it today (Thursday).

Recent background story: On 02/17 two blood tests were run. Standard CBC and on for VL (currently status unknown). The CBC showed several factors low (PL @ 43) but the one they pulled me off treatment for was WBC of 1.5. That's what they said. Posting in here that information returned lots of info, advice, and support from all the good people around. The conclusion reached was 1.5 WBC was in 'reduce dosage' area, with 1.0 being definite stop treatment.

I just read that a lot of people try NOT to take Neupogen unless it is a necessity due to sx. I am on Neupogen and I take it 3 times a week and have been taking it for 8 mos. now. Does anyone know exactly why people/anyone would want to NOT take Neupogen? Your answers may provide some insight for me and my sx's.

The Hematologist said he was going to start him on Neupogen is anyone else taking this and is it working for them. He also said that he may need a transfusion , which is freaking my husband out because that is how we suspect he contracted the Hep c orignally (back in the 80s). I told him that they screen the blood much differently now then they did back then , but he is still freaking out. Anyone who is taling Neupogen please let me know if it is helping.

low blood count started neupogen injections to build up white blood cell count so I can have chemotherapy, can I drink beer with this?

Just got the call this morning that my doctor wants to put me on Neupogen for 4 weeks because my white blood cells are so low. I'm so disappointed, I really wanted to be done shooting into myself!! Anyone else out there on this drug? I don't know a thing about it.

So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!

I am supposed to receive Neupogen tomorrow. Did my peg shot this morning. I'm sure I will get instructions with the med but it's good to get some input from those who are currently treating with it. Are we supposed to wait 24 hrs after the peg shot to inject Neup? Should I inject more slowly than I do with Peg? Docs office told me to reduce peg today to 135 mcg but I didn't (me not listen - what a revelation) because I knew I was getting the Neup tomorrow.

Have been trying to cost what a ceiling amount might be for a 12 week period to see if I can organise sufficient funds. Neupogen in prepared syringes are sold in packs of 10 - $1504 for 3000mcg/.5ml shots and $2407 for 480mcg/.5ml shots. I realise that amount required is case dependant but wouldnt mind any info which might assist me to at least get some idea of the range which may generally apply.

ve been very concerned and ready to take whatever action required if they continue with my interferon reductions and ongoing refusals for my request fo neupogen. SO much happening at once and the doctor had refused my request for neupogen. Things have just been very *thick* lately...alot to deal with and I've been just hunkering down and doing that. It has been one week since the last treatment and my WBC count is 900 (ninehundred) Can they now give me a neupogen shot. I would think they should take a count daily. and give Neupogen if it till it corrects.

Anyone get any help with bone pain and seems like a migraine after neupogen ? I am on my second shot and it's 4:30 am and I have been up all nite with a horriable headache and severe nausea. Will call docs today and ask for something.

My hematologist has explained that no one knows the reason that neupogen causes bone pain in some people. It has been said that neupogen stimulates the bone marrow and that can cause the marrow to push against the inside of the long bones and cause some pain. But your guess is as good as anyones as to why it happens. The good news is that most people get used to the neupogen and it stops hurting.

I had awful bone pain when I was on Neupogen. I've always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections.

The neupogen does not. I had no visable side effects from the neupogen although after I completed treatment and was still doing the Neup for a few weeks to bring up the whites, I noticed the side effects (bone aches). Masked by the INF and RIBA and the Procrit, who knew what was causing what? One thing I was told about Neupogen by my hemotologist was to wait 24 hours after the INF or do it at least 24 hours before. NOT AT THE SAME TIME because the INF and NEUP counter act one another.

The side effects are about the same as neupogen but happen much less frequently. You can think of it as a pegylated neupogen.
