Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen response

neupogen

1025981 tn?1261093199 I have been sent home with the instructions to take two neupogen shots a week, 300 mcg per shot. Take one the same day as shot on Monday and then a second neupogen shot on Thursday. Does anyone have any input on this? What about folks saying NOT to take it the same day as your shot?
1501377 tn?1291508678 Platelets 68, neuts 1.6, hgb 13.9.. Have decided to do 2x in may/june and test my response. If unimpressive by week 4 I would cease then, but, in Aus. will need to treat for at least 12 weeks to be categorised as a non-responder or will render myself ineligable for further & PI treatments. To optimise my prospects I would prefer to avoid dose reduction, at least for the intial 12 week period so have been making enquiries re growth factors (rescue drugs).
Avatar n tn How much neupogen are you guys taking per shot.
4113881 tn?1415850276 It was concluded that dose reduction or temporary inhibit of Pegylated Interferon in the second group negatively acts on antiviral treatment response in patients with HCV genotype 1. In patients with PEG-IFN/RBV therapy Neupogen effectively manages neutropenia and gives opportunity to maintain interferon dose (without reduction). Neupogen has the potential to improve adherence rates, which may in turn improve SVR. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
1118724 tn?1357010591 //www.rxlist.com/neupogen-drug.htm "in cancer patients receiving NEUPOGEN® as an adjunct to myelosuppressive chemotherapy‚ it is recommended‚ to avoid the potential risks of excessive leukocytosis‚ that NEUPOGEN® therapy be discontinued if the ANC surpasses 10‚000/mm3 after the chemotherapy-induced ANC nadir has occurred. Doses of NEUPOGEN® that increase the ANC beyond 10‚000/mm3 may not result in any additional clinical benefit.
Avatar m tn Yes, Dr D thought my response was very fast. I didn't realize that most people took 2 - 6 weeks. If that is the case then I agree with your entire conclusion.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Neupogen for almost 10 months and I am never in the normal range even after taking 3 weekly injections. I also take Procrit every other week and don't think it has done all that much for me. I am nearing the end of my tx (May 9th last shot) and my doctor ordered labs every couple of weeks till the end.
Avatar f tn The Hematologist said he was going to start him on Neupogen is anyone else taking this and is it working for them. He also said that he may need a transfusion , which is freaking my husband out because that is how we suspect he contracted the Hep c orignally (back in the 80s). I told him that they screen the blood much differently now then they did back then , but he is still freaking out. Anyone who is taling Neupogen please let me know if it is helping.
601210 tn?1302656652 s better to boost the ANC with the Neulasta or Neupogen. I think the nurse has mixed up the response time for Procrit for boosting hgb with the response time for the neulasta or neupogen, which are nearly instantaneous in someone who responds to them. I think there may be another factor that the nurse didn't mention, which is low platelets. If both low neutrophils and low platelets are the issue, skipping one interferon shot and starting back with reduced interferon is the proper plan.
Avatar f tn Hi Jim, Thank you for your very thoughtful and comprehensive response. No, it does not surprise me to read your answer. I'm just grateful to have your response. I agree that the ANC level does not require an interferon reduction. Where you and I always "wrestle" on this one is that I want you to understand that not even my doctors have a choice on this one as it's the trial requirements. So therefore, my choice is to submit to the trial requirement or to get off the trial.
Avatar f tn Buy your own Neupogen.
789572 tn?1334424879 I am not too certain that melatonin is a great idea during TX. In my search for what to do to help the platelet issue , I became concerned that melatonin may raise and lower the wrong cytokines needed for success during TX. I am a very regular person with no credentials of any kind. I have looked at many supplements out of what seemed like necessity for my husband.
443922 tn?1374157016 What was your VL at 12 weeks -- it is those with VL under 6000 that may benefit from extended treatment. What has your ANC been during tx. The fact that you are taking Neupogen 3x a week leads me to belive you are cirrhotic or close to it.
Avatar m tn typically the Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) is the result that indicates this. If so, were you prescribed Neupogen to manage your treatment? Are you from the U.S.?
Avatar f tn Thanks for ur response .. I understand what u saying now .. And I can't help but to feel low with the news ..what I have been doing with this disease is to pretend I didn't have it for almost 20 years I have this and I've got books I have Internet I have you guys .. But still didn't want to research it cause the less I know I think less I have to worry about and get upset .. How many days it took to read ur responses .. Cause iam scare to found out .. But I know I have to ..
Avatar m tn you used the heading non-response. Non-response is not the same as a low white blood count or low platelet count. Non-response means your Viral Load (VL) the number of virons is not being lowered by the treatment. So I'm not sure if you have one or two issues here. Are you treating with a GP, a GI, or a Hepatologist? You should probablypost the lab numbers from your blood tests.
1414174 tn?1304680526 I recall that your doctor has talked about reducing your dosage as a response. While neupogen is indicated in that 300 - 500 range to bring white counts up, what matters is when your doctor will dig in the heels and insist on a dosage reduction - and how long it will take to get the neupogen in place if your doctor agrees to that. There is nothing wrong with taking neupogen before it gets to that 500 or lower range.
Avatar f tn Yes, in a trial and they allow rescue drugs. They don't advertise it, they don't offer it, but it's available and I had to ask for them. The trial parameters still require dosage reductions below certain white and red counts. When they reduced my riba for one week, my doc put me on procrit - eprex in Canada - as a proactive measure to avoid the dosage reduction the trial requires when my hgb drops below 10.0. IF my lymphocytes are at or below .
Avatar m tn This shows the dosing information for neupogen while on hcv tx. According to this information the neupogen should be stopped or taken less often if the anc is over 1000. Mine was at 6500 after five injections, and my doc tells me to keep taking the neupogen. 493068 tn?1224765315 Do any of you have information about any long term side effects if you had Neupogen for 40 weeks?
Avatar f tn I just read that a lot of people try NOT to take Neupogen unless it is a necessity due to sx. I am on Neupogen and I take it 3 times a week and have been taking it for 8 mos. now. Does anyone know exactly why people/anyone would want to NOT take Neupogen? Your answers may provide some insight for me and my sx's.
Avatar n tn low blood count started neupogen injections to build up white blood cell count so I can have chemotherapy, can I drink beer with this?
Avatar f tn Just got the call this morning that my doctor wants to put me on Neupogen for 4 weeks because my white blood cells are so low. I'm so disappointed, I really wanted to be done shooting into myself!! Anyone else out there on this drug? I don't know a thing about it.
Avatar f tn So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!
Avatar f tn I am supposed to receive Neupogen tomorrow. Did my peg shot this morning. I'm sure I will get instructions with the med but it's good to get some input from those who are currently treating with it. Are we supposed to wait 24 hrs after the peg shot to inject Neup? Should I inject more slowly than I do with Peg? Docs office told me to reduce peg today to 135 mcg but I didn't (me not listen - what a revelation) because I knew I was getting the Neup tomorrow.
