Neupogen neutropenia

Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen neutropenia

neupogen

1363928 tn?1285081663 I heard that neutropenia is not associated with increased risk of infection during Hep C treatment. Has anybody got any more info on this? My treatment coordinator said they can add neupogen, but that there were study results that indicated that low WBC and neutrophils that occurred during tx did not cause infection. If that's true, why prescribe the neupogen? Thanks for your input!
Avatar f tn I am not on chemotherapy but I have to take Neupogen 2x/week at 480mcg a shot. The bone pain I have is horrible, the weirdest pain I have ever had before. My bone marrow gets so swollen that I can actually feel my heart beat in my femur, pelvis and ribs. That happens if I get up too fast, or bend over. On top of that I have the "bone aches and sharp zings" of pain for a day and a half after a shot. The first night I woke up shaking, because of the pain my body was experiencing.
1253246 tn?1332073310 When I read about this a while back, the summary I remember is that while interferon alone can reduce your neutrophil count, it is typically not responsible for neutropenia. The effect of ribavirin is more prone to cause neutropenia but taking them together increases the risk significantly. I am not sure how boceprevir would enter into this equation since I'm ignorant about the drug.
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on cephalaxin for 10 days, went off for 1 day, and now infection is back so skin doctor wants me to do another 10 days. Just got blood test results, neutophils are around 600, so doc doesn't want me to take shot until I have more blood work done. I am ten weeks into treatment, and I don't understand why neupogen isn't an option. I go for my twelve week test in two weeks and am already nervous about that.

I understand I cannot apply the circumstances in your situations to mine but my ANC is only .6 and I am supposed to lower my Peg (not sure the amount but there is a notation on my labs) & start the Neupogen when it arrives.
Avatar m tn 6) without chemo (possibly related to the synthroid she has been taking since 2010?). By round 2 her neutro dropped to .6 so they gave her Neupogen and stopped capecitabine for 4 days. They gave her a longer-acting version of Neupogen before round 3 and lowered the dose of oxa to 90%. Before round 4 her neutro was back down at .9. They gave her more Neupogen and started round 4 today.
1986676 tn?1329862471 Sorry to hear the relatives are continuing to their antics. Hope you are better able to tolerate this stuff after trt when your energy returns. Regarding the neupogen - I recall reading that their should be at least a 24 hr separation between the interferon and neupogen. I'll post a link if I can locate one. If you google neupogen, interferon 24 hours, you'll come up with several link that discuss this, several on MH. I was on neupogen starting at week 8 of 48, 2x per wk.
1382010 tn?1279643604 //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutropenia Platelets at around 100k are rather low, but you shouldn’t be at risk of internal hemorrhage or anything like that; we have cirrhotic patients that are routinely much lower than that. However, you might cause a surgeon mild grief if you got in a auto accident; they’d have to work a bit harder with you ;o).
Avatar m tn This shows the dosing information for neupogen while on hcv tx. According to this information the neupogen should be stopped or taken less often if the anc is over 1000. Mine was at 6500 after five injections, and my doc tells me to keep taking the neupogen. Avatar f tn My doctor seemed shocked, but pleased,....Well, I decided to go with my doctor...and as of this week my very low 600 ANC is now 1500. --------------- Not trying to sound facetious, but you might point out to your doctor that ANC can bounce around -- forget half a dose, even no dose. My ANC was 300 one week and two weeks later is was around 1200. No Neupogen. Is your doctor a hepatologist?
1669790 tn?1333662595 For those that had the rescue drugs (Neupogen), did you notice a large difference in how you felt, energy level, etc? How often did you have to do the injections/week and how many weeks were necessary to bring the ANC back in range? My Gastro has referred me to a Hematologist to review the bloodwork and make recommendations. They indicated this is often done if the rescue drugs are necessary to avoid dose reduction, which is certainly the last resort.
1118724 tn?1357010591 //www.rxlist.com/neupogen-drug.htm "in cancer patients receiving NEUPOGEN® as an adjunct to myelosuppressive chemotherapy‚ it is recommended‚ to avoid the potential risks of excessive leukocytosis‚ that NEUPOGEN® therapy be discontinued if the ANC surpasses 10‚000/mm3 after the chemotherapy-induced ANC nadir has occurred. Doses of NEUPOGEN® that increase the ANC beyond 10‚000/mm3 may not result in any additional clinical benefit.
1717054 tn?1316712653 At what level ( number) does your ANC have to be to warrant the rescue drug, neupogen? On my last visit my Dr made a comment that if it gets under 1000, it can sometimes warrant stopping treatment. At that time, it was 1076. I know that I have read on here that it can be lower than that and still be safe. Since she has listened to me thus far, I need my ammo for a good argument, if needed.
1118724 tn?1357010591 Last time, 4 shots ago, I took 4 shots of Neupogen in a little over a week of a two week hiatus. The WBC went from 1.5 b4 Neup to 23 after! Or so they claim, I'm skeptical until I pinpoint the particular CBC and get a copy. Does this sound possible? Given I'm under full dose peg and co-peg, pulled from tx 3x's now for low WBC, what in the world could possibly be the down side to having 23k WBC under Neupogen??? (eventually figure out a maintenance dose and boogie till you puke.
Avatar f tn Amen sister, it's nasty stuff. I stopped two weeks prior to ending tx because it would have meant ordering another box of 4 which I didn't need. Whites stayed at an acceptable level. I don't know whether it was the intereron, the neutropenia or the neupogen but I kept a fever throughout my entire treatment. That s-u-c-k-e-d.
