Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen mcg

neupogen

1501377 tn?1291508678 I started neupogen at week 6 when my anc went to .28, I had to take 300 mcg once a week for the remainder of treatment. the 300 mcg injection were $525 usd per injection pre insurance. Most doctors will start neupogen when anc is between .3 -.5 I used 40,000 unit procrit injections once weekly when my hgb dropped drastically and after a month the dose was increased to every 4-5 days. The cost for procrit was about $725 USD per 40,000 units pre insurance.
Avatar f tn Bone pain was reported more frequently in patients treated with higher doses (20 to 100 mcg/kg/day) administered IV‚ and less frequently in patients treated with lower SC doses of Neupogen® (3 to 10 mcg/kg/day).
Avatar m tn Dose modification to 135 mcg per week can also be achieved by using a 135 mcg/0.5 mL strength disposable autoinjector. Dose reduction to 90 mcg (which is 0.5 mL for the vials or adjustment to the corresponding graduation mark for the prefilled syringes) may be needed if the adverse reaction persists or recurs. Following improvement of the adverse reaction, re-escalation of the dose may be considered [see Warnings and Precautions (5) and Adverse Reactions (6)].
Avatar m tn I take a dose of Neupogen 300 mcg a week. I read a lot about it first. I was a little taken aback by how bad it made some people feel. I posted a few questions about it as well since I wanted to know just how prone to infection are we when our ANC (absolute neutrophil count) drops to .50 (or 500). When my ANC hit .40 my doctor suggested I reduce the Interferon if I was unwilling to take Neupogen.
Avatar f tn I am supposed to receive Neupogen tomorrow. Did my peg shot this morning. I'm sure I will get instructions with the med but it's good to get some input from those who are currently treating with it. Are we supposed to wait 24 hrs after the peg shot to inject Neup? Should I inject more slowly than I do with Peg? Docs office told me to reduce peg today to 135 mcg but I didn't (me not listen - what a revelation) because I knew I was getting the Neup tomorrow.
1118724 tn?1357010591 //www.rxlist.com/neupogen-drug.htm "in cancer patients receiving NEUPOGEN® as an adjunct to myelosuppressive chemotherapy‚ it is recommended‚ to avoid the potential risks of excessive leukocytosis‚ that NEUPOGEN® therapy be discontinued if the ANC surpasses 10‚000/mm3 after the chemotherapy-induced ANC nadir has occurred. Doses of NEUPOGEN® that increase the ANC beyond 10‚000/mm3 may not result in any additional clinical benefit.
Avatar f tn So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!
Avatar f tn I am travelling this weekend and had taken my shot early, otherwise I would have had to reduce to 135 mcg. They are ordering Neupogen and I will start taking it as soon as the pharmacy sends it. I've avoided it all these weeks but my whites just keep getting lower & lower. Pitfall of treatment. It's a good thing we have these rescues. Don't worry, you'll be OK. What's one more shot anyway.
Avatar m tn The recommended starting dose of Neupogen is 5 mcg/kg/day‚ administered as a single daily injection by SC bolus injection, by short IV infusion (15 to 30 minutes)‚ or by continuous SC or continuous IV infusion. A CBC and platelet count should be obtained before instituting Neupogen therapy‚ and monitored twice weekly during therapy. Doses may be increased in increments of 5 mcg/kg for each chemotherapy cycle‚ according to the duration and severity of the ANC nadir.
1025981 tn?1261093199 I have been sent home with the instructions to take two neupogen shots a week, 300 mcg per shot. Take one the same day as shot on Monday and then a second neupogen shot on Thursday. Does anyone have any input on this? What about folks saying NOT to take it the same day as your shot?

Avatar m tn Neup works for the most part all of the time, however is it your ANC (absolute neutrophils) that usually would dictate whether neup is need or not. best ..
Avatar m tn 3 and Nuet 12. The doctors office called me this morning and gave me neupogen injections. I did the 2 weeks test without the pcr and the WBC was 2 and Neut was 22. The NP gave me 4 neupogen injections of which I used 2 in 2 weeks but instead of the WBC going up it tanked. Now my NP wants me to inject 4 injections in a week. Is it normal to do 4 injections in a week? My PCR result will come out next week and I will post it here. I am doing SOC for genotype 4 and will add vic next week.
1391695 tn?1298139789 My anc went to 280 and I give myself a once weekly neupogen 300 mcg injection which actually seems to be too much I could probably take it every 10 days. Many docs wouldn't prescribe it until your anc was lower then 500, and if it goes above 1000 they would adjust the dose or how often you take it. After my first injection my anc went up to 700, and after my second injection my ANC really shot up to over 2000.
Avatar m tn I was referring to half dosages of neupogen. You really don't want to go lower than half dose on the interferon. Good luck.
766573 tn?1365166466 org/posts/Hepatitis-C/Does-neuprogen-lower-platelets/show/1786217#post_8219349 I am wondering (in the case of cirrhotics) since your doctors did not prescribe Neupogen and opted for an antibiotic if any of you had to lower your dose of Peg? I understand I cannot apply the circumstances in your situations to mine but my ANC is only .6 and I am supposed to lower my Peg (not sure the amount but there is a notation on my labs) & start the Neupogen when it arrives.
3159077 tn?1356031131 My NP met with the doctor who said to reduce my PegIntron from 120 mcg. to 80 mcg. due to low platelets. My weekly platelets look like this: Baseline 156, 135, 93, 76, 64, 60. My WBC weekly: 4.1, 3.5, 2.7, 2.8, 2.5. My HGB is at 14.2. I don't want to drop amount of PegIntron because I want the best chance of beating this thing. I've heard others say that platelet counts in the 50's is still tolerable.
1986676 tn?1329862471 Prior to each neupogen shot (480 mcg/1.6 ml) they ran a cbc while I waited - took just a few minutes. I saw a definite pattern of a very low ANC on Monday, then Thursday's ANC was higher. If I couldn't make it into their office until Tuesday (cbc + neup), the Thursday ANC was always much higher. So, one day made a big difference for me. It got to the point that for the last few months of tx, I got very frustrated with 2 trips per week, with the Thursday cbc being around 0.5-0.
1669790 tn?1333662595 His approach was not as conservative as mine, since I was hoping to monitor the levels, rather than jump into the neupogen shots. I thought best to not push things too much since he did a good job of scaring me about potential infections and result of high fever, etc. So looks like I begin with 2 shots per week to start, monitor the levels as I go and follow up with an appt in 2 weeks. He did indicate that most have no sides, but some have “achy bones” from the neupogen.
1794638 tn?1345155061 I paid for both the first time I needed them because were waiting for insurance approval. 1 300 mcg injection of neupogen was more then $500, 1 40,000 unit injection of procrit was more the $700. Once my insurance approved the pharmacy reimbursed me. I also took nuemega for platelets but it was provided free of charge. I read that each injection was about $2000 retail.
168246 tn?1212063254 Have your neuts been low for long? I would not rush to get Neupogen for low neuts, since Neupogen seems to have heavy sx on its own. If you read the link, you will see that cancer patients are much more vulnerable than hep C patients for low neuts. Still, the same restrictions are often used for us as for them. Remember, they are often sick to start with, while we very often still are healthy when we start treatment. How is your overall health? Do you know what stage your liver is at?
1986676 tn?1329862471 Oy. Three doses of Neupogen a week? Given how quickly Neupogen works and how short it lasts that makes sense based on what I read about Neupogen. After much debate I went ahead and started Neupogen when my ANC hit .40. I am only on the 300 mcg on Sunday. Intellectually I knew what to expect but I had no idea how overwhelming the pain is.
