Fortunately it is provided on most cbc tests, but sometimes listed as Absolute Neutrophil Count, ANC, Gran, GR#, etc.

On the other side of the coin, I took Neupogen occasionally when the ANC was in the 300 range, and had no side effects at all. Zilch. SO it's different for everyone.

Many docs have a tendancy of overprescribing neupogen (in my opinion), with some having a threshold of 1.0, while other more experienced hepatologists won't prescribe unless under 0.5. There is little correlation between a very low ANC and infections, but the doctors like to play it safe. The main side effect of neupogen is the achy bone feeling, but I didn't feel much from the shots. I was on it from week 8 to 48 and it kept me from any dose reductions.

So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!

Can you be more specific in describing the pain. Where is it located and how long does it last? Are you of the opinion the pain is caused by the neupogen or caused by interferon? I do have "brain fog" from time to time and maybe I'm not exactly understanding your question. I had some rather bad sx when I first took neupogen. That's why I really would like you to be more specific. From what I think you're saying I believe your trouble is different than mine.

only on my 3rd shot and got a call from the pharmacy about when to deliver neupogen. i wasn't even aware of my drop in white cells until i called the clinic. my doc told me to go in for another lab tomorrow and if wbc stops dropping then i can postpone the neupogen. is this really early for neupogen? and will neupogen cause/ increase risk of leukemia? man, i wasn't aware tx would be so much work. i really hope the wbc would stop dropping.

My bone pain from neupogen was mainly in my leg bones. It lasted a few days. As I got used to the neupogen it wasn't nearly as bad as the first few injections.

Again, pull back the plunger very slightly to check for blood. If blood does not appear in the syringe, inject the NEUPOGEN by gently pushing the plunger all the way in. Withdraw the needle and using the alcohol swab apply pressure for several minutes to the injection site. Do not put the needle cap back on the used syringe.

Bone pain is a documented side effect for Neupogen.
