I had awful bone pain when I was on Neupogen. I've always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections.
How does anyone afford rescue meds AND Hep C meds? We have pretty good insurance from my husband's employer but I am already paying over $700 a month for meds. We don't use credit cards. I have been unable to work since 2006. I worked as a nurse from 1987_1997, got fibrous and chronic fatigue but I didn't file for any disability. When I decided to file in 2007, I was Las king 2 quarters to qualify. My husband has a decent retirement so I don't qualify for other assist.
I was on it. Its very hard on the bones. Be sure he keeps his calcium levels up, maybe check out taking a supplement with his doctor.
Many doctors like to treat with Procrit when your hemoglobin is below 10. New protocol says, however, not to let it get above 11 when using procrit. The neupogen is for the absolute neutrophil count (ANC). The neutrophils are a part of the white cells. The total white count is not what they look at. When your ANC is around 500 they like to start the neupogen.
3 and Nuet 12. The doctors office called me this morning and gave me neupogen injections. I did the 2 weeks test without the pcr and the WBC was 2 and Neut was 22. The NP gave me 4 neupogen injections of which I used 2 in 2 weeks but instead of the WBC going up it tanked. Now my NP wants me to inject 4 injections in a week. Is it normal to do 4 injections in a week? My PCR result will come out next week and I will post it here.
I am doing SOC for genotype 4 and will add vic next week.
I was on Neupogen and Procrit shortly after I started and had the bone pain r/t Neupogen in addition to the s/e of the tx. I would be so short of breath that I would stop 3 times to go up one flight of stairs at work, but refused to take the elevator. The fatigue was always there, but I suppose you just get accustomed to it. I am a Director of Nursing and appreciate the hard work you do as a MDS nurse. It is very different being the patient and you know that we nurses are stubborn!!
The Hematologist said he was going to start him on Neupogen is anyone else taking this and is it working for them. He also said that he may need a transfusion , which is freaking my husband out because that is how we suspect he contracted the Hep c orignally (back in the 80s). I told him that they screen the blood much differently now then they did back then , but he is still freaking out. Anyone who is taling Neupogen please let me know if it is helping.

Try not to worry too much about your AST/ALT, they don't seem very high to me, although a little high . Lots of people have those reading fluctuate on tx. Everything seems to go haywire!
For me a good nutritional supplement helped me struggle through the fatigue but I didn't have to take Neupogen which I gather is awful in and of itself. It might help and it can't hurt.
Was told I was infected with geno type 3 in 2005, I went on treatment 2 times, first time my white blood cells bottomed out I had to stop treatment & was given neupogen, second time iwas able to make it thru the 24 weeks,
the treatment did not work for me.I now have cirrhosis along with it.
Was wondering about the fatigue tired all the time, and sick to my stomach most of the time, is this
something to be worried about, is anyone else having this symptoms?
Because of the various things going on with my CBC's and my hyperthyroid situation, etc. the doctor ran a CD4 test this week and it came back with a CD4 count of 200 which is pretty low from what I understand. Low enough that if I had been 199, they would have pulled my interferon injection today totally. I did a quick search at work this afternoon after I got my results and I haven't had ALOT of time to look into this. It's got me just a wee bit offside but not too much just yet.
I just read that a lot of people try NOT to take Neupogen unless it is a necessity due to sx. I am on Neupogen and I take it 3 times a week and have been taking it for 8 mos. now.
Does anyone know exactly why people/anyone would want to NOT take Neupogen?
Your answers may provide some insight for me and my sx's.
low blood count started neupogen injections to build up white blood cell count so I can have chemotherapy, can I drink beer with this?
Just got the call this morning that my doctor wants to put me on Neupogen for 4 weeks because my white blood cells are so low. I'm so disappointed, I really wanted to be done shooting into myself!! Anyone else out there on this drug? I don't know a thing about it.
So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!
I am supposed to receive Neupogen tomorrow. Did my peg shot this morning. I'm sure I will get instructions with the med but it's good to get some input from those who are currently treating with it. Are we supposed to wait 24 hrs after the peg shot to inject Neup? Should I inject more slowly than I do with Peg? Docs office told me to reduce peg today to 135 mcg but I didn't (me not listen - what a revelation) because I knew I was getting the Neup tomorrow.

IM AN AUSSIE AND HOPING SOME1 KNOWS OF WHERE TO GET THIS STUFF,OR ANYTHING THAT WILL HELP.IV HAD MY DOSE LOWERED AND IT SHATTERS ME COS MY CHANCES WOULD BE MUCH HIGHER WITH FULL DOSE OF INTERFERON.
I DONT CARE WHAT IT COSTS I JUST WANT TO BRING MY WBC UP COS IV HAD SO MANY INFECTIONS AND FLUES ETC.
