Are there any anti depressants or non stimulant/amphetamine meds that will help with the sleep attacks & day time drowsiness associated with narcolepsy?
I'm a naturally anxious person.. and going on something like Adderall or Ritalin is out of the question... unless maybe if I have to drive somewhere that day. Is there any way to correct the condition, like with antidepresants?

A DAY OF DEXEDRINE AND I HAVE NEVER NOTICED ANY EFFECT ON MY KIDNEYS OR OTHER ORGAN IN MY BODY. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO WAS BORN WITH HYDRO-NEPHORATIC KIDNEYS, WHICH IS REALLY SERIOUS, AND SHE HAS CHRONIC KIDNEYS INFECTIONS. SHE DOES NOT TAKRE ANY RECREATIONAL DRUGS BUT WHEN HER ANTIBIOTICS DON'T WORK THEY USUALL HAVE TO BE CHANGED TO A DIFFERENT ANTIBIOTIC.

I have been diagnosed with "Idiopathic hypersomnia" which means I can sleep round the clock. I'm always fatigued and sleepy (unless medicated with a prescribed amphetamine). Can my sleepiness actually be the result of either my longterm use (15+ years) of Neurontin (for epilepsy) or longterm use (10 years) of Prozac? There are problems associated with going off either of these meds, but it is very difficult to get through life feeling chronically sleepy and drugged.
I hate not knowing and trying to find ways to make it through the day. Also you might want to look at narcolepsy. I thought I might have Narcolepsy, since I have the hullicinations sometimes. When the doctor told me I had hypersomnia I asked if he was sure it was not narcolepsy. He told me one of the differences is naps help people with narcolepsy, but not those with hypersomnia. And napping never made sense to me, because it did nothing to relieve the tiredness.

My 7 yr old son is taking Tenex along with D-Amphetamine. These 2 together have given us much success over the summer, but school starting will be a whole new ball game for us. I haven't tried his treatment with just the D-Amphetamine alone, so I can't really say that the Tenex is playing a major factor in the treatment.

Your probation officer should know what medications you are on. Yes, Adderall is stimulant based, its a methamphetamine. You can look it up online to get the information. You should have a doctors letter stating that you are on the adderall or have your doctor change you to Stratterra which is a non-stimulant treatment for add/adhd, especially in adults. I wouldn't be too worried, but if you don't want to test positive all the time you might want to try something else.
Diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Have history of pituitary microadnoma high prolactin. PCOD historectamy 2002 On dostinex. Can something in my brain cause this. I am now on ritalin 20SR twice a day. Awake but body still tired. Also that thyroid medication had it irradiated a year ago Due to high levels.
Is there any other answer for sleeping so much. Or am I just in denial.
I was diagnosed with narcolepsy at age 25, took adderall ufor 5 yrs. then stopped for 1 yr to become pregnant. I took pro vigil for appr. 6,so. W/0 any help, des. Increased med and it sent me into violent emotions. I have had a recent MRI because of headaches. I need hello. I don't want the diagnosis of narcolepsy but I can't live like this.
As many of you know, I'm currently on SOC treatment, due to finish in July. I am applying for employment with some larger companies that may require a drug test. Will the interferon and Ribavirin show up in these tests?

I have had narcolepsy (and sleep apnea) for a long time. I had had three bariatric surgeries over the past 14 years, and my drs have wondered if some of my meds are not being absorbed properly or at the right rate, yet no one has done any kind of 'test' to determine that. I have tried everything possible for my narcolepsy---the ritalin patches, elixir ritalin.......etc, provigil, other meds....and of course xyrem. I take dextroamphetamine daily, even though it does litte...
My doctor does know about the amphetamines. They are a tri-amphetamine for treatment of attention "disorder". My pulse is noticeably weaker in the neck and normal at the wrists. I have EMT training and spent 4 years in the Navy as an assistant corpsman. It is not that the nurse didn't notice anything it is that she didn't feel my pulse with her fingers. My heartbeat itself is much weaker than normal. I am healthy and very aware of changes in my body.
