Avatar m tn That will determine what drugs you can take safety without further damaging your liver. Aleve's main ingredient Naproxen sodium is for the relief of inflammation, pain and stiffness. It is commonly taken by persons with arthritis. If you have arthritis you should see a doctor. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Has anyone else ever experienced any side effects like this from anything containing the naproxen?
1207048 tn?1282177904 I'm hoping some past or present Rebif users can tell me how bad their side effects were, if they went away after being on the medicine for a while, and what you did to minimize side effects? Thanks so much for your help!
320242 tn?1237485180 Heather told me she warmed it using a heating pad on low and this helped reduce the side effects. I can't recommend the heating pad unless you carefully measure the temp and don't warm it more than the package insert states, but hand warming would be completely safe. Yes, definitely take the full dose of Advil (at least 600mg if you can tolerate three pills) an hour before the shot. You actually should clear all this with your doctor or by calling the Biogen-Idec Hotline.

Avatar f tn Which I do know is a sulphamide and I am allergic to sulpha drugs, but in turn, the side effects to Celebrex also mentioned if a rash develops it could be related to liver disease...I was only on the Celebrex for 2 days, so I am still in the dark about the rash. Often at times, I am waking up in the night because of the pain.
Avatar n tn I printed out a 10 page list of everything you need to know about metoprolol, including side effects and interactions. If you can't find it, leave me a fax number and i'll fax it over to you.
Avatar n tn Just to make sure I'm not misunderstanding, you do know that your liver is high on the right side of your abdomen, up towards (and maybe even partially behind) the rib cage. So, below the waistline is def not a "painful liver". I'm probably reading your post wrong though. Just wanted to clarify.
Avatar m tn The treatment of hepatitis C patients with advanced cirrhotic liver disease remains challenging and data on the outcome of treatment for this patient group is limited. Results: Between September 2000 and August 2004, 61 cirrhotic patients started treatment with pegylated interferon and ribavirin (42 male, age range 29–69 years, 26 Asian).
Avatar m tn This has been happening for me as well. It feels like a hot needle piercing just the skin and surface of the left side of my left kneecap. My partner's parents are doctors, and they said it may be a bone spur catching on a nerve or something. I haven't had it looked at, because I feel like the doc would think I was a hypochondriac. The pain comes out of nowhere. I tried to make it happen manually by pressing on it, but it's totally random; laying down, walking, sitting.
Avatar n tn it carries a few side effects but as far as I cn tell is not addictive. If I am wrong in that regard I am sure someone here will correct me.
Avatar n tn AST enzyme is also made in heart and muscle besides being made in the liver, but ALT is only made in liver. Something's going on and causing you damage.
Avatar n tn It's the constant drinking and tylenol intake that takes a toll on the liver. I do not drink, but I have been taking 3000mg of tylenol daily for years. I have expressed my concern to my doctor more than once (who just last month lowered the dose to 1950mg per day at my insistance). The FDA does say that long term acceptable dosing of tylenol does not cause liver damage - I just don't want to take the chance. You should not take more than 4000 mg of acetaminophen a day.
Avatar f tn I've been on Rebif since Sept 2009. I was terrified of the possible side effects. So far, no problems, either with flu-like sfx, liver, etc. You'll find lots of good tips here for how to inject easily, how to avoid the sfx, etc -- but here's my experience: I take 2 Advil & 1 benadryl 30-45 minutes before I inject, and an additional Advil about an hour after. I use a heating pad to warm the shot site for a few minutwes both before & after the shot.
Avatar n tn This would mean that if I drank alcohol that afternoon, it is the same as if I had just taken 1 naproxen on top of whatever I'm drinking. Yes? I would think so because the liver still has that unit to metabolize on top of the alcohol you are now consuming. And I don't think that people taking this kind of medicine realize this, as the warning label just says "don't take with alcohol". Is my analysis correct?
Avatar n tn He also said that his father and even further back had them too. So make sure you talk to your family on your mother and fathers side if you know them.
Avatar n tn If you don't have anything you can take today, get some aleve, it's naproxen just not in the amount that a perscription would be, so take however many aleve add up to anywhere from 250mg to 500 mg depending on how your body responds to naproxen. ( if each aleve is 100 mg taking 5 is the same exact thing as taking a 500mg naproxen. It is the exact same drug just a lesser dosage per pill since it is over the counter) I really hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything.
86664 tn?1291561395 I'm in my 24th week of treatment and have had all sorts of side effects. The only time I really needed pain meds was for the first shot (which was a doozy) and once in a while afterwards here and there (usually just before my shot). I also took a couple of valium when I went to the ER for some relief from a really bad rash I had. Otherwise I get by without them ok. Also, I would think it's unlikely your doctor will prescribe them to you on an ongoing basis.
Avatar m tn I too have the exact problem and have had it for about two years. I have tried almost every product on the market which has had various side effects. Most recently I visited a Health store and they directed my to this product called Black Walnut & Wormwood herbal supplement. I have found that this product seems to make them less active on your body when comsumed with some type of liquids.
Avatar n tn The burning started yesterday and I just thought I was hot because I'm hot and then cold and that goes on all day. I'm pre-menopausal. Right now I have a burning sensation on my lower left side of my back. I also had one on the side of my hip while sleeping today. I had to check in the car if I put the seat warmers on because it was burning. I have syatic not sure of the spelling pain right now that is my entire left side from the hip down to my toes.
Avatar f tn there is a spot on my nose that i've rubbed raw washing, trying to get these "things" out of my pores. these are not whiteheads, nor blackheads. these are clusters of white or fleshy hard and sticky plugs-- not filled with anything, but they stick straight out from the pores. They are not bumps. If I rub the area w/ a towel they do not rub off at all. I tried to remove one with tweezers, and it was very tacky (as in sticky) and clearly goes deep under the skin.

224927 tn?1189759426 Please be careful with the Naproxen, it is not an innocuous drug, check out the side effects.
Avatar n tn When I came home I read up the side effects and I seem to have all of them. My Doc said to try them again and within a week all the nastiness came back. Have now stopped again and feel so much better. I was blaming the methotrexate for feeling ill but I now know it wasn't, don't know what the long term effect will be re the naproxen. Is their an alternative to omeprazole ?
Avatar f tn I agree with rexx. Having cirrhosis and asking laymen for medical advice as to what drugs you should take in my opinion is a poor idea. Only a liver specialist can determine what drugs are safe for someone with cirrhosis. Especially now that you have gotten rid of the cause of your liver disease and don't want to add any further damage.
5045042 tn?1365893700 Similarly, do not use **** quai if taking anti-platelet drugs such as clopidogrel (Plavix), and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve). **** Quai Side Effects **** quai antibiotics **** quai has been known to increase the photosensitivity of the skin, so those taking the herb should stay out of the sun and protect themselves with sunscreen.

2202729 tn?1377554805 What analgesics a person can take is dependent on the amount of liver disease you have. Anyone with Stage 0-3 has a fully functioning liver and can take whatever they within dosing limits. If you have cirrhosis (and therefore damaged liver function) you should ONLY take Tylenol/acetaminophen. Other pain killers can cause serious and life-threatening complications in patients with cirrhosis.
Avatar n tn It is the foods with Vitamin K that are improtant to avoid, Vitamin K decreases the effects of Coumadin. Large amounts of vitamin K are found in foods such as liver, broccoli, brussels sprouts, spinach, Swiss chard, coriander, collards, cabbage, and other green leafy vegetables. Do not change the amount of these foods in your diet without first talking to your doctor. Avoid eating cranberries, drinking cranberry juice, or taking cranberry herbal products.
