466909 tn?1207568232 In the case of a Morphine overdose, where a hospital is concerned that the high dose of Morphine may be dangerous (depressing breathing and heartrate), they may administer Naloxone (an opiate antagonist). The Naloxone finds its way to your opiate receptors and "competes" with Morphine for binding of the receptors. Because Naloxone has a higher affinity for the receptors than Morphine, the Naloxone will generally win out, replacing much of the Morphine at the receptor sites.
Avatar n tn Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids such as morphine, codeine, and heroin. If Suboxone is injected, naloxone will block the effects of buprenorphine and lead to withdrawal symptoms in a person with an opioid addiction. When administered under the tongue as directed, naloxone will not affect the actions of buprenorphine.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means that when its molecule binds to a receptor, it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
Avatar f tn Naloxone is a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, for example heroin or morphine overdose. Naloxone is specifically used to counteract life-threatening depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system. It is marketed under various trademarks including Narcan, Nalone, and Narcanti, and has sometimes been mistakenly called "naltrexate.

Avatar f tn How far along are you? Be very careful tapering down. If you stop the medication the baby could go in withdrawal in the womb and you could go into pre-term labor. I was told this by the pediatrician in NICU. My baby is in NICU now for withdrawal of Subutex I took during my pregnancy. They give him morphine and are taking very good care of him.

Avatar f tn It should not be confused with naloxone, which is used in emergency cases of overdose rather than for longer-term dependence control Naloxone is a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, for example heroin or morphine overdose. Avatar m tn Suboxone has a added ingredient called Naloxone. This was added to prevent abuse, and the Naloxone in Suboxone will allegedly cause immediate withdrawal if the Suboxone is injected or possibly snorted. Naloxone has also been known to induce withdrawal (wd) symptoms when some people are initially starting treatment, therefore some Drs will initially induct patients with Subutex which is just Buprenorphine without any additives.
Avatar f tn to be able to take it otherwise like stated above the naloxone will kick off the opioids on your receptors and put you into precipitated WDs. And believe me those are not fun at all. As far as its strength as an analgesic it is pretty just a little weaker than hydrocodone and has side effects that act more like morphine, such as hallucinations or psychotomimetic effects on the body. It says that .
Avatar f tn Suboxone is a combination of the drugs Buprenorphine and Naloxone. The Naloxone prevents this drug from being used intravenously b/c it causes withdrawal. The Buprenorphine is the main drug. It is a partial opiate that has similar effects to other opiates, but does not produce the high that Oxycodone or Vicodin are capable of. It has a ceiling effect meaning that 32 mgs is as high as you can go. Any pills after that will do nothing. Suboxone also blocks the effects of other opiates.
603838 tn?1238534975 One of my best friends has been taking heavy painkillers to manage pain due to disk surgery and partial replacement. They have been switching between things as heavy as morphine and methadone. They found her thanksgiving day not breathing with foam coming out of her mouth and nose. She was in respiratory arrest and flown to a better hospital in the neighboring state.

Avatar f tn But for some reason after seprating my shoulder in a mountian bike crash they had me morphine, then dilotid, then perks and then down to Vicdone and for some reason that monster woke up and I was on a 6+ month run on Vicodine...and since I am now so clean cut, run a successful business, have 2 great kids and a husband Dr. kept giving me prescriptions....no problem....so my 2-3 a day got to 8-10 a day! Avatar m tn My prescribing Psychiatrist changed me over to Subutex to see if it may be the naloxone and his second guess is Psoriasis.
Avatar f tn and it shows up as having morphine and codeine then they send it to the lab and it still reads positive for them what makes it show up i dont take anything else but that and sometimes ibprophen it happened twicw now and im going to get cut off what is happening??????
Avatar f tn Considering the 37 hour half-life of buprenorphine, it could be estimated to be fully cleared from your system in under 9 days (8.48). The half-life of naloxone is reportedly between 30 minutes and 1 hour 21 minutes.
397118 tn?1219762250 hi i was on suboxone and the suboxone has naloxone in it, wich means it will cancel out the affects of vicodin .with everything you are going through i would listen to the doc but have your husband contrl your vicodin. can you stop taking the subs for a few days then start on the viks? or do you have withdrawls if you dont take the subs? i hope you can figure it out. there is a drug called subutex, it is the same thing as suboxone but without the naloxone.
Avatar n tn Suboxone is prescribed for treatment of severe opiate addiction. It contains buprenorphine and naloxone - otherwise known as NarcAn. It doesn't get you high and it's dangerous. It will block the high of opiates or throw you into withdrawl if you are dependent. The 8mg pills are orange hexagons. Seriously dude, don't take it, you won't like it.
Avatar f tn fibromyalgia but I am going to have back surgery for stenosis and want to stop my narcotic meds. I have morphine cr 45mg 3x/day which I asked to change due to side effects. Dr put me on Oxycodone 20mg 4x/day. After my back surgery recuperation I want to stop the meds. Which one should I be on for an easier withdrawal. I am scared because I have been on this for ages. When I have the surgery I can ask the dr to use the med that would be easier for me to withdraw so what do you think.
1191546 tn?1264700552 Thanks for the input (and correct spelling of Talwin). I've read the same info. about Talwin (I take the Tawin Nx), and how it compares to morphine and the codeine drugs. For now, it's what I can take, and although I'm not happy with the constipation and occasional itchiness, it is the safest pain med. for me. I'm sure there are other meds.
1477380 tn?1289233354 Congrats on your efforts toward recovery. I found myself in a similar situation after abusing OC's 200-400mg's a day. Started using Morphine off the streets after the Doctor fell through (Got Busted) because my oxy supply shutdown. Began using 200-400mg's of Morphine just to stay working and functional. When I finally realized my situation I enrolled in the Methadone program.
Avatar f tn The naloxone component in Suboxone prevents the pill from being crushed and injected. Naloxone also occupies certain opiate receptors and won't allow other opiates to take up residence. That means any additional opiates don't have much if any affect if taken with Suboxone. Butrans is every bit as habit forming as the fentanyl patch or morphine or any other potent narcotic. You will experience withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly decide to stop using it.
