Avatar f tn With that being said, perhaps you should try an MAOI. EMSAM is the popular MAOI on the market right now, and luckily, there are no food restrictions at the lowest dose. There's mixed opinions about the effectiveness of MAOI's, but generally they are effective when reuptake inhibitors aren't doing the job. If you don't notice a significant reduction in symptoms after an MAOI, maybe its time for an antagonist of some sort like: remeron, nefazodone, trazadone, or a tricyclic.
Avatar m tn m not sure if Salmeterol is safe to take with Harmine alkaloids as they are MAOI (reversible MAOI however) are they safe to combine? Thank you!
3145974 tn?1343086198 The minimum time between ending an SSRI and starting an MAOI is two weeks. I am on Emsam, an MAOI patch, and followed that criteria just as my psychiatrist required. I also had ECT during that time which stabilized me during the two weeks. I have continued with the MAOI and ECT. I follow the diet most of the time, occasionally having a taste of something on the No-No list. I have not had any problems with this.
Avatar n tn Took it for about 4 years and it worked wonders during that time for my Severe depression and anxiety. Then it just kind of started fading away and became less and less effective so I had to switch meds. Then I switch to Effexor and got around another 4 years effectivness from it until it also pooped out slowly. I have never heard of hair loss being a side effect of any AD medication. I know for me it never caused any hair loss.

Avatar f tn No side effects but I am not sure that it is doing anything for me. It is an MAOI transdermal patch. It requires a restrictive diet or you can go into a hypertensive crisis.
Avatar f tn ve been to 2 cardiologists and had 2 echos and multiple EKGs. I was assured that my heart was structurally sound and the PVCs were annoying but not dangerous. I felt okay with this answer and even though they bothered me, they didn't bother me as much after I saw 2 different cardiologists and got the same answer. Recently I have been put on Wellbutrin and Ritalin for my depression by my psychiatrist. I told him about my PVCs and he didn't seem concerned.
Avatar m tn HI, My mother was prescribed Selegiline after some routine blood/urine tests. I found that the drug is MAOI and specifically prescribed for Parkinson's and at times Alzeimer's early onset. In her case Doctor did not do any other tests. I am not sure why a MAOI class drug was prescribed. Is it used to treat other conditions ? In her case she has had weight loss and tiredness in last few months. She also used to take Elderol due to high LDL for last couple years.
484603 tn?1209506478 is a ssri for sure I'm on it and I'm reading on my pdr right now.
131829 tn?1249997363 I know my doses are low compared to most people but my tolerance is low and this cocktail keeps me pretty even-keeled. My neurologist has tried many tests and is limited to minimal pain and my psychiatrist is not giving me much help.
Avatar f tn Friends would comment that I began to look healthier, dark circles faded from under my eyes, hair shiner and I began to enjoy company of friends again. It's been almost two weeks since my last treatment. My memory has begun to fail me. I forget little things, eg, where mugs are kept, how to use certain functions on my phone, if I have seen friends, to pass on ph msgs, what day it is, to pick up children from school, where I put things.... It's becoming very frustrating and upsetting .
Avatar m tn Normally the anxiety resolves itself within a few weeks but this time it has persisted and continues on. Could it be caused by the morphine? This is my thought but the pharmacist said he didn't think it was. Also my doctor is suggesting 8 tylenol a day to replace the morphine. I am so skeptical of it being adequate though I know I can manage less than the 60 mg of morphine now. What are your thoughts?
Avatar n tn I am not sure what the circumstances are that surround your situation, but I do know that strokes are caused by a blood clot or a brain bleed. My mom just had 2 strokes and they actually gave her a morphine pump for her head because it hurt so bad. I do not think they would have done that if there was a chance it would cause more strokes. Keep doing your research though, I guess you never know!
Avatar f tn t take but taking an Maoi interferes with routine procedures like standard anaesthetics in dental work, or cold and flu tablets, or anything they might give you in the emergency room if you were involved in an accident. Hence why you should wear a medi-alert bracelet. Having said that, if it does give you your life back, learning and avoiding the foods and medications is just something you will have to do.
1806609 tn?1374545828 I have major depression and panic disorder and been on lexapro, wellbutrin and zoloft and none of these meds seem to help with the depression. i heard that it's pretty common for the meds to not help some people. To be honest, I am also tired of going to doctors and having them change my meds and put me on new ones that end up doing nothing. Therapy doesn't seem to help at all. There are days when I cannot get out of bed.
