Avatar n tn I too have Hep C and finding the right balance can be very very difficult. If Demerol works for you and helps with the pain and doesnt give you hallutionations then I say go with it. I hate to think a Dr is that stupid that he would prescribe something contraindicated when you give such an accurate medical history. The first thing you should do is find a doctor that you trust.
Avatar f tn I took Demerol and Stadol when pregnant with my first baby for chronic migraines. We moved and I had a different OB for my last two children. I took Darvocet with my second baby and Vicodin with my last. I did not take very much, but probably three - five pills per week. I also received Demerol injections in the ER during all three pregnancies (again for migraines). None of my babies had any withdrawal - and I was able to breastfeed all three.

Avatar f tn I am on very strong pain meds for my lupus & fibro (morphine & demerol) which I take daily regardless if I'm in that level of pain or not..the morphine that is, the demerol is for break thru pain only (this was directed by both my family doctor as well as my rheumatologist). I suspect maybe this regimen is causing other serious health issues. The past 3 days I have had lupus flare type symptoms....
Avatar n tn diaudid is requested by paraplegics very often who have a drug dependence and are tolerent to morphine or demerol...down south tho and is highly unusual drug for pain IV for the normal public..that is here tho...i have never given a patient dilaudid iv unless they were extremely tolerant to narcotics...and i have pushed many IV narcotics in my years...
Avatar f tn At this point in time whenever a migraine comes on I have to go to the Emergency Room, and I am well known there, I get a shot of Zofran for nausea and a shot of either Demerol or Morphine, but it happens so often that I am unclear on the aftereffects and I am breastfeeding so what harm is it doing to my new baby?? I guess I just don't know what to do anymore!!
Avatar n tn I was given Demerol and my son came out perfectly fine. They have more info on dosage now so it is probably more safe now than when you were born. Also through the IV it will help relieve pain in your whole body( but won't take pain away) so they probably won't let you walk around. I will be getting Demerol when I can't take the pain anymore because I want to walk around.
Avatar f tn The emergency room doctor gave me 20 demerol pills for breakthrough pain. My pm doc apporved the demerol and made room to see me monday(this). I hope he changes my breakthrough pain meds to the demerol as it seems to be working much better than the xodol. I would be so lost without my pain doc. He takes care of his patients regardless what the insurance co tries to dictate.
Avatar n tn Methadone, although there is so much negative publicity, is an excellent pain reliever, and the only one she could take after demerol had become ineffective. She was allergic to morphine, fentanol, etc.
Avatar n tn Aspirin, alcohol (in cough compounds and pediatric elixers), morphine, codeine, dextromethorphan (“DM” in cough compounds), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, procaine, opiates (codeine, Demerol, morphine), thiamine, high molecular weight polymers (dextran). Medicines, topical: Topical antibiotics containing polymyxin B. Medicines sometimes used with general anesthesia: D-tubocurarine, scopolamine, decamethonium, resperpine.
659218 tn?1225496912 I have always preferred Demerol but I have done morphine sulfate which worked good too. My pain dr, will not let me try anything stronger at this time?
1645944 tn?1305243337 In the past few years, I have begun having a histamine reaction to Morphine and Dilaudid, which knocks out Demerol by association. When I received it by IV in the hospital, I broke out in a rash on my chest, felt like I couldn't breathe - like a weight was on my chest (even though my pulse ox was 100%), couldn't entirely move my arms and legs, and couldn't talk. So, there go the narcotics. Ummm, in two days they are gonna cut my head open, HELP?!
Avatar f tn not exactly..oxy in theory is a bit stronger than hydro..and sub is a different type of narcotic than the other 2..but conversoin charts do compare the strength of sub to other narcotics..but it is not really the effect they r comparing//but the strength...i do believe there is a conversion chart in avisg's journal...
Avatar f tn They gave me morphine because of pain and blood loss (really rough labor with my first), they didn't however test to see if I was allergic, having never needed it before... I spent my entire labor in horrible pain, blacking out and throwing up. I barely remember anything, when I finally came around and was fully alert family crowded in room around my baby and we never got that quiet happy new family moment... it was horrible. I say this to warn you not scare you.
Avatar f tn ^ they will give you morphine if you're allergic to Demerol (which I am). Are you allowed to walk around? What position are you giving birth in? My midwife doesn't give drugs for the pain, but she will coach on position changes, which help ease the pain of labor. I'm also planning on a water birth, because it will be a lot more relaxing I think.
Avatar f tn t take morphine or dilaudid. As i have to be careful with new pain medicine and because of my allergies to the current pain meds (hydrocodone, morphine, dilaudid) do you have any other suggestion that I could suggest? I know I can take Demerol pills because I had to take them 2 years ago for surgery. Would that be a good medicine to discuss with my doctor or is the Demerol a little too strong for a knew surgery? Thank you in advance for your help. Hope everyone has a blessed Sunday!
Avatar f tn Epidural carries more risk to mama than baby. But demerol and morphine don't typically harm the baby, just give some initial problems sometimes.
Avatar n tn Why can't I take toradol with ibuprofen? I've had a migraine for find days now, I've tried toradol, ibuprofen, Tylenol 1's, maxart, dexamethasone, and have been taking my oxyneos. In addition to my migraine I can't move anything above my hips, I'm going to have my husband drive me to the hospital at some point today. In the past I've tried morphine for my back and my head, it does nothing for the pain, just makes me sleep.
Avatar f tn They can do more then that, when I went to the err for mine they always give me morphine because I'm allergic to Demerol
Avatar f tn My mother had demerol with my brother at 8 cm and it completely stopped her labor. They had to give her pitocin to get her to a 10.
Avatar f tn We are currently down to about 60mg a day and are running out of supply. We do have some 50mg Demerol and was wondering if that would help keep the withdrawals at bay and also help us with tapering off.
Avatar f tn How well does demerol work durring labor? I'm due in 9 days and I'm still not sure what I wanna take while in labor but I'm leaning towards demerol, so what are pros and cons about it?
Avatar f tn I have been given, hydrocodone, Tylenol 3, morphine, Vicodin, and others, I feel absolutely no relief from pain EVER, be it kidney stone or tooth ache. I have bottles of this crap. I tell drs I feel no pain relief ever! I do get nauseated and a bit sleepy. These r my only two symptoms after taking a pill, or they IV it in my arm. Otherwise nothing. My daughter for an arm break got down right loopy after some morphine.. It was amazing too watch. Me? Never. Drs never believe you either.
Avatar f tn Good Evening Mary, I'd be willing to bet that you are allergic to Morphine. The one and only time that I've Morphine (all the other times Ipve had Demerol) was for my ruptured disc's to be removed. They continued with the Morphine intravenously and I ws throwing up. After the 2nd time my Nurse called the Anethetist and this time as the Nurse administered the Morphine before it was even half in I was vomiting.
384896 tn?1335294331 CONGRATS!!! Glad to hear it went good this time. I can't wait to see pics! How did you find out you were allergic to morphine? I had morphine and demerol during my c-section and was itchy for the next 24+ hours.
