Avatar n tn All it means is that your doc is saying you're having pain in the upper right quadrant that resembles the pain and discomfort felt when one has gallbladder issues or perhaps stones. I don't know if you've been tested already or are going to be tested, but this is typical 'medical shorthand' for pain/discomfort, and he's indicating the possible location - gallbladder area.
Avatar n tn I still can't understand why I have biliary colic symptoms. I eat a very healthy diet, consisting of chicken, turkey, without skin fish especially salmon, tuna, sardines. I eat a lot of fresh organic vegetables, and fruit. I don't drink soda, only seltzer and a glass of red wine with my dinner, only have egg whites. I use extra virgin olive oil, take vitamins, do exercise every day. I'm a healthy women and ever had any problems with my stomach.

Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms that you have mentioned, the first possibility that comes to my mind is gall bladder colic or biliary colic. It can be due to cholecystitis(inflammation of gall bladder) or gall bladder stones. I would suggest an ultrasound abdomen to confirm the diagnosis. Other possibilities are irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis(inflammation of the liver), kidney stones, pneumonia, musculoskeletal pain, lower rib fracture and malignancy.
Avatar m tn I dont eat loads of fat anyway, i went back to the docs for a second opinion, and they too said IBS can mimic biliary colic at times, and given my circumstances (18, male, healthy weight) gallstones, or any gallbladder problems, is very uncertain. He explained how trapped wind can also get under the ribs?
Avatar f tn The primary symptom is typically a steady gripping or gnawing pain in the upper right abdomen near the rib cage, which can be quite severe and can radiate to the upper back. Some patients with biliary colic experience the pain behind the breast bone. Nausea or vomiting may occur. Changes in position, over-the-counter pain relievers, and passage of gas do not relieve the symptoms. Biliary colic typically disappears after 1 to several hours.
Avatar f tn He says he still gets an ache but it comes and goes and is not constant, he says that certain foods seem to make him feel worse, am I right in believing you can eradicate the h pylori but the gastritis takes time to heal? He is 38, heavy smoker, 4 months teetotal, but was drinking and taking cymbalta without any ppi relief at the time. He's been stressed lately as have I but I wouldn't be so stressed if he hadn't tried to convince me he had cancer!
Avatar f tn they are saying that i might have something called biliary colic have you heard of that please let me know cause i am really scared.
Avatar f tn //www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1121646/ Biliary colic and gallstones resemble the symptoms you mention. Same place, same pattern of pain/discomfort. Here's another article with some ideas about what to do. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320442 Basically, cut down on calories, fat, carbs. Sigh (no fun!).
Avatar n tn The reason I ask is because the gas pain that you describe sounds like biliary colic, which causes pain like a steady gripping or gnawing pain in the upper right abdomen near the rib cage, which can be severe and can radiate to the upper back. Some patients with biliary colic experience the pain behind the breast bone. This is typical in gall bladder inflammation.... this symptom is usually less frequent than weekly and the return of the symptom can even be years apart.
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed 5/5/09. I had one attack of biliary colic before the surgery. After the surgery, I took a while to feel better, even had another attack of biliary colic - post-surgery. I have to be extremely careful what I eat. I had an upper endoscopy today. I have erosive esophagitis and will start taking Nexium in the morning. This is all very frustrating. My gastro gave me Miralax to try and I ended up with a severe reaction to it. They called it hypocalcaemia(?
Avatar f tn Hello, A clinical examination and wok up is important for confirming the exact cause of your symptoms. Sludge is a mixture of bile, mucous and tiny bits of cholesterol-based and calcium-based particles. People with sludge may be asymptomatic or may have tenderness or pain in the right or upper abdomen .In few cases the sludge may resolve itself. However it can also lead to other health issues like gallstones, pancreatitis, cholecystitis and gallstone-biliary colic.
Avatar f tn I would suggest a HIDA scan with CCK stimulation to get a functional assessment of your gallbladder. You describe fairly typical biliary symptoms and have already had evidence of dysmotility in your GI tract.
Avatar n tn This could be a symptom of gallstones. "A main symptom of gallstones is commonly referred to as a gallstone "attack", also known as biliary colic, in which a person will experience intense pain in the upper abdominal region that steadily increases for approximately thirty minutes to several hours. A patient may also experience pain in the back, ordinarily between the shoulder blades, or pain under the right shoulder.
Avatar f tn s not like an EGD where a doctor actually takes a scope and looks at your esophagus and your stomach. Gall bladder or biliary colic attacks can be set off by spicy foods - HIDA scan with ejection fraction is one of the better tests for diagnosing gallbladder problems. An MRCP is good for looking at all the biliary ducts and pancreatic ducts as well. Pancreatitis can also be very painful and make you feel sick.
Avatar n tn They normalised a weeks later but then I was diagnosed with gallstones/cholecystitis and each time I get biliary colic attacks they seem to be raised (ALT and GGT). They were raised prior to the Hep C test and have been raised again since, following a bad attack of biliary colic on 23rd Jan requiring hospitalisation again (AST, ALP, GGT raised – ALP and AST were not raised on previous occasions to my knowledge).
Avatar m tn Gallstones usually present with pain or biliary colic after eating a fatty meal. Try to eat less fatty foods and drink plenty of fluids. If it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management. Take care always.
Avatar n tn Hello, There are many possibilities to your symptoms. Upper right abdominal pain can be caused by biliary colic, cholecystitis(inflammation of gall bladder), irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis(inflammation of the liver), kidney stones, pneumonia, musculoskeletal pain, lower rib fracture and malignancy. Irritation of the nerves supplying this area can also cause pain. Irritation can be due to nerve compression or pinching due to any spine related pathology.
Avatar n tn Few patients with biliary colic may have pain behind the breast bone, nausea, vomiting etc. Ultrasound or other imaging techniques can usually detect gallstones. You may take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen. A personal history and physical examination form mainstay of diagnosis. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar m tn My gyn said there is no way it could be related to fibroids given the location of them on the uterus and said that endometriosis is not likely given that I have the mirena. She told me it is likely biliary colic that could be triggered by hormones and referred me to gi. Has anyone else experienced this? I am desperate for answers. How could something hurt so badly and no one have any idea what is wrong?
Avatar f tn pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), kidney stones, an ovarian cyst or an ectopic pregnancy. Biliary colic or gallstones. Cholecystitis or inflammation of the gallbladder. Duodenal ulcers As you can see it’s important to know what’s really causing the pain and that’s what the scans will help determine for the physician.
Avatar f tn I would research some biliary diseases like biliary dyskenesia and sphincter of oddi dysfunction.....suggest these to your doctors if you think the symptoms sound like what you're going through..... I have sphincter of oddi dysfunction and have upper abdominal pain daily, predominently under the right ribs (don't have my gallbladder anymore) and also a narrow bile duct.....there are options and medications out there that might help you a lot.
Avatar n tn Doctor gave me morphine to subside the pain. After morphine was administered my stomach pain tripled and I was told that I was screaming and convulsing. The doctor said he had never seen anyone react that way to Morphine before. A few years later I found out after a HIDA scan with CCK that my gall bladder doesn't work properly less than %17. Am I allergic to Morphine or can Morphine have that affect given to someone experiencing a gall bladder attack?
Avatar f tn I finally went to the emergency room for the first time and they had done blood test and barely looked at me and told me that I was fine. so I went home but they pains kept coming and now worse than before. the pains I get are far more worse then when I gave birth to my daughter. I went again for the second time to a different hospital and they told me that I had gallstones! I had no idea that's what it could've been.
