Avatar m tn In the fall, I was once again attacked by shin splints and so I laid off running for 3 months. This January, within two weeks, shin splints came back to haunt me. Avatar m tn Hi..shin pain or shin splints can be caused by how we walk and even our shoes....so look at have you switched to a flat sandal ? Or flip flops? I use to have this problem and my daughter being a dancer was able to show me what I was doing and how to change it....I also notice it will flare when I change shoes....as I am not as aware how I am walking when I change the shoe...... Shin splints can occur while walking, mine was always at night like yours....
172023 tn?1334672284 Within 5 minutes, I had what I thought was a muscle spasm in my shin, and foolishly kept on walking and jogging for 3.5 miles more. By that time, it was very sore and tender, and I figured out that I probably had a shin splint. I iced it yesterday and today, wrapped it, took Motrin several times, and today I feel perfect--no soreness at all. How long should I rest before I resume my walking program ( I'll not make the same mistake again!) Should I rest from walking for a whole week?
Avatar n tn Causes of shin splints can be over-use, excessive bouncing movements, muscle imbalance, or working out on hard surfaces. So do stretches, elevate and add ice, or see a physiotherapist. In addition, poor forefoot cushion and poor balance support of footwear can excentuate the pain. Try wearing runners whenever possible and avoid heels anytime.

Avatar m tn i started with the usual tredmil and weight lifting. i get pretty bad shin splints and usually only fast walk instead of run due to this problem. A few days ago i did some pretty heavy leg presses to work my legs after my teedmill. Then i did leg lifts. i have always had strong legs. For the past couple of days my left shin feels dumb. not the whole bottom leg, just the front directly on the shin. I fell that during the course of the day as I go about my regulat business it gets worse.

Avatar n tn I am a young athlete(I run track). Ever since I began running since the 7th grade I have been diagnosed with shin splints. In the 7th grade I had a bone scan and was actually diagnosed with stress fractures. I am now in the 11th grade(4 years later) and the track conditioning will begin next month. NOTE: I have not run since beginning of august, it is now october). So I go for a jog at the park.

1395422 tn?1308016251 Possibilities that may need to be considered include shin-splints, bruise/ haematoma, periostitis, micronutrient deficiencies, neuro-muscular issues etc. I would suggest getting this evaluated by a primary care physician or an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn ), improper fitting shoes, the way you walk, etc. Shin splints is not actually a break in the bone, it is a term used for the syndrome. To actually find out what is going on you need to see a doctor. In the meantime, when you get home from work, rest your legs, elevate them, trying icing them, and you can try an over the counter pain medication if needed. Let us know how you do.
Avatar n tn For me, the treadmill (or equivalent) tends to aggravate the burning sensation on soles of feet and also makes my toes goe numb. These are the most obvious symptoms from putting pressure on my feet. The motion also hurts my butt somewhat since it's sensitive to begin with.
Avatar n tn It could be shin splints. As a jumper in high school i have it. But many runners that i know get them. its when the ligaments a believe it is. am unsure you could look it up. well its when the ligaments in the bottom of your foot "drop" and it pulls down on the ligaments in your shin. Since it turns into a ring this may not be so. but you could try ice before and i have like a compression wrap around the area. then ice afterwards.
