Avatar m tn Hello, I am 29 yo considering OC to help hormonal imbalance (not so much pregnancy prevention). I have cystic acne along my jawline. I have been using spironolactone 50mg daily about a year. Overall, it's improved about 50%, but will worsen during pre-mentraul flare ups. However, my derm is hesitant about increasing my dose and suggested adding on OC. Any reccomendation on what estrogen/progestin combo to try for acne?
Avatar m tn For the past 10 days I have had light brown discharge non-stop, bloating, and bad stomach cramps. I was on Azurette birth control for about a year and then I switched to Mircette(this is my first pack); so I was wondering if the switch could have anything to do with it even though they are basically the same birth control. I am due for my period on Tuesday the 29th. I am very confused as to why this is happening so I'm wondering if you have any ideas or explanations!
Avatar n tn I just recently had a baby on Sept 5, I have a prescription for birth control but I am not sure when to start taking them. I think the nurse at the hospital told me to start taking them on the third Sunday after the baby, but I am not sure. Can you help me?
Avatar f tn Also taking birth control (Mircette) continuously for period suppression (ie, only 4 periods a year -- 3 months of active pills followed by a one week break.) I am having trouble interpreting my latest labs with my thyroid and sex hormones... Sex Hormone Binding Globulin - 306 (high) Testosterone, Free - 1 (low) Testosterone, Free Percent - .3 (low) Testosterone, Total - 41 T3 - 229 (high) Thyroxine, Free - 1.5 TSH - 1.22 How is it that my T3 is elevated and the other be fine?
Avatar f tn ve been on Mircette (a.k.a Kariva). Before I started Mircette I stopped my pills about 3 days before I was supposed to right before I was to start my cycle. Anyway, long story short, with this pill all I've had are bad gas and gas pains, some cramping but other than that I don't feel like I'm on bcp. Well yesterday I was supposed to have my period but when I thought it was here, I had mucus like cm and then some pinkish brownish discharge with it.
1371539 tn?1281268141 t had my period on my own for over a year now, and even stopped getting it while still on Mircette (birth control). My OB moved us onto a fertility specialist ASAP and with a moderate PCOS diagnosis, despite no cysts, I am waiting for my first beta blood test tomorrow to see if our round 1 of IVF was successful. I wish you much luck and persistence to get answers from your doctors! Remember...you know your body best!
Avatar f tn Hi, are you on birth control? I was on Mircette to regulate my cycle and because it wasn't "strong enough" I spotted mid cycle. I also spotted on the Depo shot so it could be birth control. You are not pregnant from giving a hand job.. unless you took the semen and inserted it into your vagina which I doubt you did. If you did have sex and just don't want to say.. then you could be pregnant and the spotting could be implantation bleeding.
Avatar f tn I have just gone through a similar situation. I stopped taking Mircette on 6/4. Since then I've had all kinds of stomach cramps, pinches, nausea, REALLY SORE BOOBS, and all other stuff you would expect from PMS or possible pregnancy. AF showed exactly 4 weeks after I took my last pill. My body was getting back to pre-bcp body. Your body is going through that same thing in my opinion.
Avatar f tn I decided to get off BCPs and since, have been feeling awful. I am back on the pill (continuous Mircette), but still do not feel well. I would love to find an endo specialist/surgeon in the Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia area to get the endo excised. I am tired of feeling so awful. I would love to travel to a specialty center, but I have 3 young children and a part-time job. Thank you so much!!
Avatar f tn I work in the medical field yet I have been blind to my own symptoms. I am 47 and on Mircette for birth control and as a prophylactic for migraines - so I do not have a period. For the past three months or so I have been waking at 3am (despite 100 mg Trazadone that had been working fairly for several years) soaked in sweat. Sorry for the run-on sentence. Anyway, I attributed this to stress and a worsening of my Anxiety NOS.
Avatar f tn Google mirena side effects and make a decision on whether or not you want to keep it but do it quick before you gain more weight that will be hard to lose! Also they cant find my strings anymore so I will have to have a special procedure to remove it! If you decide you want it out, don't let them tell you mirena is not the cause because it is.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS, was told in march. My doctor wants me to lose weight and if this medicne helps with that, i will talk to her about taking it.
Avatar f tn Being on birth control makes it harder to lose weight then being off it. I have been on and off birth control for many years and the pill itself makes you gain weight and with pcos doesnt help with that either. Sorry, I can't help with tips on trying to lose the weight, but losing the weight is possible the pill just makes it harder.
Avatar f tn Hi, my daughter was put on birth control to regulate her periods and for her acne, which was really bad. She was 17 at the time. She was put on the regular pill that everyone starts off with I believe, ortho something or other. Worked great on regulating her periods AND her acne. The nausea started shortly thereafter and the vomiting....................
Avatar f tn HI, PCOS respond very well to weight loss. Weight loss can be achieved by a combination of diet control or dietary modification and exercise. You should consult a dietician to prepare a diet chart according to your food habits, in such a way that nutrition is not compromised. Exercise should be such that is as per your liking so that the chances of sticking to the exercise regime are greater. Exercise should be done daily for 30 to 60 minutes.
Avatar m tn ” And if it works for you like it did for me it regulated your periods. In part yes it will help you lose weight or just control but it will not be the main source for losing weight. For people like us its one of the perks of birth control unlike for others. Good luck with the Ortho Tri-Cyclen I hope works for you in all female aspects.
Avatar f tn I figure that's what I'm going to have to do. I tried a different birth control after awhile to see if it would help me lose the weight but it didn't. My yearly will be up soon for the gyno so I'll ask them what they think.

Avatar m tn My weight gain issue is that I can't really lose weight on my own. I slowly gained weight as a teen and I was a size 26 last year. I have been slowly losing the weight with the help of Metformin and better diet. I am now a size 20. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn s good that you are planning to lose some weight to remain healthy. My dad who is 56 year old has faced the same problem. Due to his busy schedule at office his routine of having meal was not proper and result of that he gain weight. Over weight caused him many health related issues and his job was affected. I searched on internet for the best possible and fast solution to control the weight and to burn extra fat of body.
Avatar n tn The fudge type bleeding sounds like another PCOS symptom, Endometrial Hyperplasia and possibly endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterine lining) due to overaccumulation of uterine lining, and also lack of progesterone resulting in prolonged stimulation of uterine cells by estrogen The only thing for regulating your period is birth control unfortunately and if weight loss is an issue maybe your doctor could prescribe Metformin, I know it makes people physically ill at times but it does help to
Avatar m tn She has been on the metformin for about 6 months. I think that actually helped her lose a little weight and get rid of the moon face. As far as going on the pill I am afraid to introduce more hormones into her body. Maybe that would help but she is very concerned about putting on more weight. She does not menstruate. After she started taking the T3 she did have a period but that was about a year ago.
