Common Questions and Answers about Mirapex and parkinson's

mirapex

410281 tn?1254229064 I had been having a lot of unexplained symptoms such as tremor, muscle twitching and jerking, tingling in my extremeties and severe eye pain and facial numbness. Migraine was ruled out. Since I started on the mirapex most of my symptoms have either gone away completely or greatly diminished. Could they have been simply caused by the sleep deprivation? Thanks for your time.
410281 tn?1254229064 PLMD, RLS and apnea. My neuro put me on mirapex immediately upon seeing the results. I actually feel like myself again. I had no idea that I was sleeping so poorly, especially after hearing about so much fatigue from my friends here. I can wake up and actually be awake!! I still shake, twitch, jerk and am quite tingly. But sleeping well sure makes it all more manageable... So for those of you with sleep disorders, or that think you might, ASK about Mirapex!
487070 tn?1313665952 I also take Mirapex for RLS and Parkinson's like syndrome...also called familiale tremors, which is hereditery. I take 1mg. at bedtime each night. The only side effect I have experienced is the dry, yucky tasting mouth in the morning, but brushing my teeth a couple of times usually takes care of the taste, and I keep something to drink on my nightstand every night. I have had great success with Mirapex, in fact I will not go without it...
462570 tn?1273632977 My doc just prescribed Mirapex for me. And it helps a great deal. It stimulates the D1, D2, D3 and D4 dopamine receptors. It is an agonist and most especially hits the D4. It really helps the pain but I'm not sure if that is because it relaxs me or if it is actually correcting a deficiency in the dopamine levels that is causing the fibro. It also stimulates something that makes me dream vividly and sleep very lightly (of course, if you dream all night long - you are sleeping lightly!
539156 tn?1281818356 I have had RLS for years and in the last few months it has gotten much worse. I take Mirapex, which has worked really well, but now I guess I need more of it because it really flares up every evening (all over my body) before it is time to take my meds. I feel like I am falling apart! Numb hands and feet...apnea....RLS...blurry left eye....FATIGUE.....Sorry, I think I am having a pity party. Thanks to all for being there!
Avatar f tn Hi. Mottling is a manifestation that something may be wrong with the blood vessels on the area involved, or from the oxygenation and level of red blood cells. It is very hard to pin this solely on parkinson's disease and even to the medications that you are taking. It is best to have the blood flow to the involved areas be evaluated, and this should be discussed with your doctor. Possible work up would include doppler ultrasound studies or angiograms. Regards.
Avatar n tn I have tardive dyskinesia which is clinically similar to Parkinson's and I have tardive akathesia which is similar to restless legs syndrome but it would depend on the cause of it. If its clinically similar to Parkinson's, I did not find Bachlophen, Mirapex, Aricept and Requip to be of help but many people do. I was ruled out for Tetrabenzene and Namenda but those have shown to be of help.
410281 tn?1254229064 Thanks all for your comments. I am on Mirapex for restless leg and periodic limb movement disorder. I actually woke up yesterday for the first time that I can even remember feeling rested. AND I didn't kick my hubby out of bed. So it must be working for that, which I am very thankful. My concern comes from the research I did on the possible relation to PLMD and Parkinson's and the other symptoms that I have been suffering for over a year now.
Avatar f tn I have RLS and PLMD. Spent a few years on Sinemet. Several more on Mirapex, now transitioning to Requip. None of these are without potential side effects. My current sleep doctor feels that Sinemet, a dopamine replacement, should be reserved for use after dopamine agonists such as Requip and Mirapex are no longer useful.
749148 tn?1302860959 hands... she prescribed Mirapex. I have not started it yet and wondered if anyone out there is using this medication and what your thoughts are. She recommended a TENS unit for the rib pain I guess it's caused from a miss-firing message between my spinal cord and my brain, even though no lesions showed on my thoracic MRI doesn't mean they are not there...hummmm.
574118 tn?1305135284 I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.
Avatar m tn I am a 51 yr. old female. I went to a neurologist because I had been having a loss of coordination on the left for approx. 6 months and a slight tremor for approx. 3 months. The tremor is not the type that occurs at rest. I happens when I reach for something or put weight on my leg. I have also noticed that I tense up my toes unintentually. My great toe starts trembling when I do this. The tremor gets worse when I am excited or nervous. The doctor suspects Parkinson's.
1390101 tn?1281000559 Wow Kraz - I am sorry that you have had to deal with the problem from Mirapex. I too have RLS and have been on Mirapex for about 2 years, but fortunately have not had a problem with gambling. I am an addict, but have been doing good with that too. Interesting though, your post made me think, there are other things that if I really look at it, I probably do in excess - and have been doing more since on Mirapex. Wonder if there is a connection there.
Avatar f tn I too have been on both of these meds and have had similar issues. Have you been on Sinemet yet? Requip and Mirapex are dopamine agonists, but Sinemet is a dopamine replacement and is best reserved for when the agonists no longer work. SinemetCR worked for me for a few years before the side effects outweighed the decreasing benefits. It's more complicated to optimize it's effectiveness, as one is best served to consider the timing, volume and content of their meals.
Avatar f tn So meds that work to increase dopamine levels have been helpful as well- meds like the muscle relaxer, Baclofen, the antidepressant Wellbutrin, and the Parkinson drug Mirapex, which is also good for Restless Legs Syndrome which is a fibro symptom. Alternative treatments and treating underlying causes of fibro, such as sleep apnea and thyroid disease have proven helpful as well.
1154672 tn?1262222616 My doctor tried giving me clonazepam 1 mg 2 nights ago, I walked the floors and tossed and turned all night. I called my doctor, and she said to increase my clonazepam to 2mg before bed. I felt the affect of being goofy and my speech slurring, but still no sleep. I called again today, and she gave me a prescription for Requip (since there is a generic for it, and is less expensive than Mirapex). She started me on the starter pack. I take 1/2 of a .
1200450 tn?1317496867 The doctor put me on mirapex. She told me it would make me very sleepy and help to control the jerking and twitching at night to allow me to get better sleep. I spent most of my sleep time in phase 2 sleep with very little time in REM. My question is about the mirapex. Have any of you ever had issues falling asleep while on the mirapex? I find that once I do get to sleep it helps me stay asleep better.
1192491 tn?1265031829 Currently, there is a generic available for Mirapex (Pramipexole) and it is made by TEVA pharmaceuticals. It comes in the 0.125mg, 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, and 1.5mg strength tablets.
Avatar m tn I also take Mirapex and it works well for me. I also have eaten bananas and that helps...google rls and see if you can find any other ideas.
Avatar n tn t know about the Monavie but what I take and is wonderful is Mirapex. I take it 3 times a day and have no restless legs unless I skip a dose or run out and then the RLS returns. I hope this has helped.
Avatar m tn Talked to my doctor again today, while he feels all things point to this being a lyme problem, we're going to keep me on the mirapex, which the neurologist prescribed for parkinson's, and do doxycyclin for a month. Everything that I've read online says it takes month of antibiotics to maybe, MAYBE, get rid of a late stage lyme disease. Have you talked to your mom and brother about getting retested for lyme? Good luck.
501781 tn?1210258133 I failed to mention before that I have had this condition since I was little but in the last 5 years have been the worse to where I am not sleeping well at all. I used to be skinny, but ever since this medication Mirapex I have been gaining and gaining, I have gained 50 pounds. I eat healthy and excersise. I am just at my witts end. Let me know what you think again.
Avatar n tn I'm on .25mg of Mirapex for RLS and am gaining weight. Has anyone else experienced this. Any idea as to why. Suggestions? Thanks!
398059 tn?1447945633 Because of the Mirapex and Gabapentin I can sleep at all. I still get uncomfortable though. It is pain really, except in my left arm anyway. But, the uncomfortablnes and pain in left arm is toerable. I just need more sleep than i am getting.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your feedback. We would also love it if doctors would give out MedHelp's URL to their patients to help track symptoms. Then their patients could just click Email This on their trackers and send it to their doctors for review. We could easily add Restless Legs as a symptom and Mirapex as a treatment to the Sleep Tracker. Would that work for you?
