Metronidazole vet use

Common Questions and Answers about Metronidazole vet use

metrogel

Avatar m tn t seem to be showing any symptoms (no soft stool, etc), and our breeder had assured us upon her call that she had been dewormed with Panacur (fenbendazole) and that everything should be fine. Our vet gave us 2 weeks of what I believe was metronidazole. About a week ago Penny started having very soft stool. We took her into the vet yesterday for her rabies vaccination and a lepto booster, etc...all in all she got 4 needles (our vet told us she'd probably be very tired).
Avatar f tn Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet. Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
Avatar m tn t eat. Doctor gave me Metronidazole 2 years ago for a tummy bout. Does anyone know if there are any contraindications between those 2 meds?
Avatar m tn The dose for a large lab would be 500 to 750mg twice per day tor 7 days (Do not overdose). If you have not given the correct dose or metronidazole than another course of metronidazole may help. There could be gastrointestinal parasites not covered by the metronidazole, of course, and it would be best to have your dog's stool checked.
72351 tn?1281992542 I would like to know what would be the best drug to treat oral infections in possible fiv possitive cats. I have tried Metronidazole without success, mostly because it is virtually impossible to give them tablets due to their mouths being so sore. I tried crushing the tablets and diluting with water to give orally but that is an even worse option lol! I heard it comes in liquid forms but my vet has not been able to locate it to purchase for me.
7205189 tn?1447794738 This caused diarrhea and vomiting which the vet then prescribed metronidazole for. Immediately she began pooping twice a day with meals and it was normal. When the medication ended she went a few days normal, then slowly started increasing frequency of pooping and then started having diarrhea again. The vet immediately prescribed the Metronidazole again, this time just half a pill for a dose. She went back to normal immediately.
Avatar n tn My dog was throwing up (looked like human food- I hve no idea where he got it from) and having diarrhea. The vet gave him amforol among penicillin and steroid injection. We took x-rays and the vet said he had imflammatory bowel disease. Since then he's stopped vomitting but still having diarrhea. Now he's on metronidazole. I've read around that metro will help only temporary and that it could cause liver damage. Has anyone had this problem and will metronidazole fix his problem?
Avatar f tn After about 5 days of taking this, she was barely alive (we watched her get very lethargic but she would get better during the day and then go downhill at night). We took her to a new vet where she was put on IVs and eventually got mostly better but a week later was very weak and was limping pretty bad. The vet said she had arthritis and put her on Gallaprant saying her blood work indicted some a low level of pancreatitis so shouldn't get a steroid.
Avatar m tn She then started having seizures a week ago. Now on phenobarbital. Controlling the seizures. Still has Diarrhea. Vet prescribed metronidazole again. She is now shaking and not feeling well and still has diarrhea. She only weighs 2 lbs or so. She doesn't like Pumpkin. Tried that for the diarrhea. Taking her off the Metronidazole. Vet has taken tests waiting for results. May have Distemper. She had her first shots 2 weeks ago. Not sure if that is a false positive for Distemper.
Avatar f tn She acted like a normal puppy for the first couple of days but then she stopped eating, was vomiting, had diarreah and lost weight very fast. She was also very depressed and lethargic. We took her to the vet and they diagnosed her with kennel cough and giardia. We gave her the medicine and tried giving her some pedialite because she still wouldn't eat. We took her back to the vet the next day because she was so dehydrated and skinny. they had her on an iv for four and a half days.
Avatar n tn She was a stray cat. Her stool was like yellowish jelly. I looked up in the web that maybe Metronidazole can help. So I administered her the med for 2 days (500mg per day) and after that she started giving off stools with long white parasitic worms in it. I am now giving her milk, water, and oatmeal for fiber (via syringe without the needle) but seems she is not absorbing the food because she quickly excretes them. She is now very thin and I don't know if she will survive.
Avatar f tn I am with holding food for 12-24 hours and then going to call the vet if theres no improvement. I read Pepto is good, and pure pumpkin1-2 tsp. How much Pepto should I give her, shes 45 lbs.?
Avatar m tn Get her to a vet who knows what he's doing! Honestly, a vet who cannot diagnose your dog accurately should not be a vet.
Avatar n tn Or continued antibiotic treatment, perhaps Metronidazole/Clindamycin? See what the vet says, but please do take her back, until a treatment is found that does the trick. I do hope she is better soon. Please post back to let us know what happens.
Avatar f tn t come all the way out of her behind and wound up becoming matted in her coat. I brought her to the local petsmart vet who gave her fluids under the skin and a oral laxitive. 2 days later i saw no results, just a straining kitty. After taking her to the second vet she was diagnosed with giardia and given a de wormer and placed on metronidazole and lactulose. I stopped giving the lactulose was stools became watery and brownish/yellow.
Avatar m tn We fed once a day instead of twice, then tried three times. We switched from Iams to Hill's IB prescription dry food, adding plain rice. They've been on that for two months. We treat the dogs with GastriCalm when they have vomited. We give the dogs 2 mg of Chlorpheniramine Maleate if they are having seasonal allergy problems (which might be causing them to gag). We have been giving Ricky, who vomits often, twice daily doses of Metoclopramide 1/2 hour before feeding.
Avatar f tn bone marrow normal negative xrays, sonogram RBCs do not clump will not eat, but drinking very lethargic vet has no answers put her on zanex, metronidazole, and sucralfate could this be some form of cancer?
681148 tn?1437661591 Akira's vet told me she will have to take Metronidazole indefinitely. It helps, since she vomits a lot less with it, but she still vomits at least once during the night. She actually tried to make it to vomit in her litter box last night, as I found it near the litter box in the bathroom. It's mainly bile, so at least she is getting the most out of her food.
Avatar f tn I adopted my cat from a rescue group when she was two years old and shortly after blood started showing up in her stool. Many tests and procedures later and her vet diagnosed her with inflammatory bowel disease and put her on Metronidazole and prescribed cat foods with duck, rabbit and deer. Well, both of my cats reaction to the new food was to try to bury it. The Metronidazole made Pixel sick and she stopped eating and her weight fell to under six pounds and the vet then put her on steroids.
Avatar f tn I brought her to the vet and we came to the conclusion it was a raw hide she found under the couch and ate almost the whole thing and it must have upset her stomach. She didn't eat for 2 days. Gave her some stomach meds, rice, boiled chicken and it took about 2 weeks to get back to somewhat normal. About a month later the same thing started - no chewy involved this time, so we were stumped. Gave her the meds and same diet, took about a month to get back to normal.
Avatar f tn Iv just been prescribed this for bv I got the gel and decided not to use it after advice from the hospital
1472764 tn?1287588186 Has anyone ever used oral metronidazole for a vaginal bacterial infection? I'm on my 5th of 7th day and have developed a very thick clear to cloudy mucousy discharge. Is this normal. I know the gel form will pull everything out in a thick white chunky discharge but does the oral pill.
