I took metronidazole on 6/6/11 for BV as well. On 6/16/11, 5 days after the last pill, I broke out in the worst case of hives I have ever had. All around my hair line, into my scalp, along my hip and pelvic bones, on my jaw line and neck - -burning, painful and firey. The doctors tried to get to the bottom of it, but eventually they sent me on my way and I never did determine the source of the problem.

I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet.
Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
My heart beat is erratic most of the time anyway but when I tried taking flagyl for campylobacter, it didn't affect my heart at all. I just got extremely sick and intestinal issues worsened. They had to switch me.
Also after i have finished the metronidazole pills does that mean the (BV) odor has gone away?

I started taking metronidazole and a probiotic supplement called enterogermina. After the first dose of both metronidazole and enterogermina I started having urgency to pee. I feel like I have to pee frequently. My urine does not have a strong odour and it is not cloudy and has a normal light straw colour. I was wondering if urgency to urinate may be a symptom of bacterial vaginosis or if it may be a side effect of metronidazole or enterogermina?
4 days later I started bleeding,(not bleeding until then), pain in ab, fever 99.7, bad headache. blood in urine and blood in my stool, very loose stool, in the toilet there is a ring around the bowl of blood. went to a walk in clinic, (my dr on vacation... figures) They put me on metronetazol 500mg 2x day and Levequin 500mg 1x. on meds for 3 days now, shouldnt the blood in my unrine and stool be going away. how long does it take or should I go to the ER?
