The dose for metronidazole is 20 to 25mg per kg. The dose for a large lab would be 500 to 750mg twice per day tor 7 days (Do not overdose). If you have not given the correct dose or metronidazole than another course of metronidazole may help.
There could be gastrointestinal parasites not covered by the metronidazole, of course, and it would be best to have your dog's stool checked.
t take methylprednisolone which can be cheaper and called into Walmart. My dog did great on Metronidazole at first but then it stopped helping so we now take the Sulfasalazine. Good luck!
Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet.
Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
My little dog Chester has been on Vetmedin for over a year for a heart condition and has been doing great. He had diarrhea and vomiting this morning (must have eaten something he shouldn't, he's a sneaky pup). He's done with that, but is extremely lethargic. Drinking water, but won't eat. Doctor gave me Metronidazole 2 years ago for a tummy bout. Does anyone know if there are any contraindications between those 2 meds?

My pomeranian dog is not eating for more than two weeks. Two weeks earlier it was continuously vomiting, and i found some worms in it. Our local doctors said it just stomach problem and they gave B Complex,Liver Extract With Vitamin B12 Injection and Betnesol injection for two days.Today it was given an anti biotic and ranitidine as it was thought to have gastric problem. with regards to their food, i haven't fed my dogs commercial dog food for the past two years and it has improved their health - no more rashes, allergies, and frequent vet visits.
Usually it's just steamed meat ( chopped lean pork, chicken (no bones), or liver), squash, and rice.
they like to snack on fruits and veggies, usually banana, watermelon, and carrots.
My 10 year old blue healer had a bad reaction to Clavomox that was given to her for a leg cut. After about 5 days of taking this, she was barely alive (we watched her get very lethargic but she would get better during the day and then go downhill at night). We took her to a new vet where she was put on IVs and eventually got mostly better but a week later was very weak and was limping pretty bad.
I would like to thank you for your support when my dog was sick. He had an ultrasound done and they could'nt find anything. He was still not eating and sleeping a lot. After the ultrasound I did not what else to do. Then, after days of praying God answered, he always does, and the next day my baby dog started to play and eat. Now, he is back to normal. He is on Denamarin ¼ tablet for small to mediun dogs, 1 Prednisone tablet 5mg in the morning, ½ 250mg Metronidazole pill in the morning, and ¼ Prilosec in the morning! At night he only gets ¼ Prilosec! He has been holding his own for about a year now. Yesterday he started the head tilt and really stiff walking. He pants and drinks lots of water. He was diagnosed with high liver enzymes. He does also have some mouth/teeth problems but can’t go under the anesthesia to get a dental!

Im not a vet but i have experienced kennel cough well not me my dog had it twice from pets i have brought home from the shelter, when he had it the vet told me he would feel as though he had the flu and it took ages for him to get better and also with ref to the guardia they treat that with metronidazole antibiotic and i have been on that loads of times before and it makes you feel very sickly so im thinking if your puppy has kennel cough and guardia and is on metronidazole she is going to f
May 29 2015 we went for a full blood test as Louie ( my dog) was due for a dental. Blood test came back Saturday that he was perfect. He also had a blood panel taken so he can take his heart worm. This tested also tested for Lime disease which he did not have. That Saturday night he began acting weird. Very tired, I blamed it on the vet appointment stressing him out. He had diarrhea once but it had no mucus or blood. It was also not liquid.
I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV?
Hope someone can shed some light on this.

last night the doctor at the emergency prescribed me metronidazole, for my chronic acute appendisitis....just took my first dose (2 tbs, 250mg) and then tried to do some research on the med and after going through this message thread, think am going to chuck this meds out now ???

Poor puppy. I am not sure what is going on but keep talking and getting advice from your vet. My dog when a puppy had lots of diarrhea too. She came from a place where she was sick when I got her, had fleas and parasites. I hope your dog doesn't have distemper. My dog had diarrhea daily and then a very sensitive stomach for a long time. Seemed like if she ate any food she'd get diarrhea and then it became if she ate anything different, she'd get it.

My doc just took a look down there and said it was definitely bacterial vaginosis within seconds of looking.
My heart beat is erratic most of the time anyway but when I tried taking flagyl for campylobacter, it didn't affect my heart at all. I just got extremely sick and intestinal issues worsened. They had to switch me.
For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily).
I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm.
My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night?
I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
