live in Las Vegas Nevada USA, and the FDA has approved many drugs for this!! For child and pregnancy. PRESCRIPTION I was given is METRONIDAZOLE FOR 5 DAYS. My point is simple ask for help look for answers and please do yourself a solid kick this in the ***! this may not be what you have, but don't give up search and find if your Doc. doesn't know get a sec. even third look. Don't let this slid away or forget about pass it off as a flu,and wait it out.
I've had the same problem start 4-5 months ago, it came on very quickly after a bad cold with diarrhea and chills but cant say that was the cause, might have pick something up from cat. From my searches it seems most likely to be a very common parasite, 'Giardiasis' and is said to be treated with metronidazole but think I might try the probiotics like said above first to see if theres any change? If it is a parasite i wouldn't think the probiotics would knock it out?
I have been losing weight for about 2 years now. I have lost 60 pounds. I eat quite a bit but keep losing weight. I was just diagnosed with giardiasis, after seeing numerous doctors including a GI doctor who perfomed an endoscopy and colonoscopy with biopsies but found nothing. A new doctor did a stool specimin and found the giardiasis. I took 4 pills of the tinidazole 5 days ago. Will this work? How long does it take?
Help. I've had chronic giardiasis for years. It was just diagnosed a year ago. I have lost 58 pounds. Mostly just constipation and weight loss. Took tinadazole 2 times. Stool keeps coming up positive Can't take flagyl the last time I took tinadazole it seems like it got worse. What can I do. Will my body get rid of it on its own. I was retested 4 weeks after the last dose it still showed positive was that too early to retest?
So I went into the hospital with the same diarrhea and they couldnt find anything in my blood. I have been having oily (or maybe its mucus, i can't tell the difference) fatt stools for the past few weeks. I don't feel like I am lviing the same as I was before it. I feel disconnected from my body, light all the time, I have decreased appetite. My sister has been ill since then with symptoms which do fit exactly with a giardia infection . Her stool samples have come back negative for giardiasis but she has lost over 30 pounds in weight, has green mucus stool, has abdominal pain and nausea and vomiting and when she eats, nothing is digested. It comes through in her stool. She has had an endoscopy, blood tests, urine tests and stool tests. Nothing is showing up as the cause of her illness.

I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV?

Have you treated her for a Giardia infection? You may see unusual behaviors with Giardiasis, not just abnormal stools.
Try treating for that and if the problem does not resolve please post again.
You can also get a stool culture, stool test for occult or hidden blood and stool test for parasitic infections like round worm or infections like amoebiasis or giardiasis. All these can also cause inflammation of the gut, colon, rectum etc. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!

Apx 22 years ago I was diagnosed with a giardia parasite and was not treated since i was 5 onths pregnant. Symptoms went away. But for the past few months I have been having moderate pain in my lower left side and assumed it was an ovaian cyst (had many) had an ultra sound and was told I did have one but it was very small, not enough to cause the pain I am having.
My question is, could I have an intestinal infection or a problem with the untreated giardia from years past.
at first i didnt bother it but after my medication in soar throat and allergy(urcatitaria), my vagina started to became itchy and again, everyday i started having green discharged for `1 week. i went to a gynecologist and she prescribed me a metronidazole miconazole vaginal suppository and ive used that for `1 week.. now what my problem is, my white discharge had stop.. i am also currently taking up medice for my UTI and had experiexed sex but that was like long time ago...
Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet.
Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
My heart beat is erratic most of the time anyway but when I tried taking flagyl for campylobacter, it didn't affect my heart at all. I just got extremely sick and intestinal issues worsened. They had to switch me.
For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily).
I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm.
My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night?
I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
I had to take it last week for 5 days. Everything is great with baby. It does say that there is no harm to take it however I understand your concern. I'm 27w 5d I'm sure I would've been me hesitant at 6 weeks.
I had my levels checked twice last year after a trip to the gastro due a giardiasis infection that i had acquired during international travel. stool testing also revealed low pancreatic elastase. i was treated for the giardiasis and subsequently tested negative for giardia but the low fecal elastase remained. An MRI of the pancreas with contrast was performed after that, and was reported as unremarkable. A CMP from each gastro visit showed bili levels within normal range. First at 0.
