A few months ago I had unprotected vaginal\anal sex with a woman. Within a few days I had a lot of discomfort in my urethra and minor, clear discharge with no odour. I'm in the UK so went to the local GUM clinic, I've been tested for everything under the sun and all tests are negative. One swab test did show some pus cells so I was treated with Ofloxacin for 2 weeks which made no difference to my symptoms.
Hi there and welcome. Sorry you are having this issue. Bacterial vaginosis --- gardnerella vaginosis can be very difficult to totally eradicate or get rid of. Notoriously, it comes back. I would suspect that if you take the medication and it is cleared up, then your partner is passing it to you. Whether he tested negative or not. Have you both taken flagyl at the same time for it? That is probably the next step to getting rid of it.
Hi, are you saying that your wife has been taking metronidazole? It is commonly used for an infection known as gardnerella or BV (bacterial vaginosis), which can cause the vagina to get a bad smell and is very irritating to the woman.
Symptoms persisted for several days. Called dr. back. He called in a prescription for doxycycline for my husband and he started taking it. Never had any relief of symptoms. I started having redness, swelling, burning pain in my vagina and vulva. DR. did a vaginal swab culture. It came back with heavy growth of Gardnerella. STD tests negative for gonorrhea, chlamydia, trich, herpes,and HPV. Took one dose of metrogel.
I have Recurrent bacterial vaginosis (Gardnerella) for 15 years and tried different treatments (metronidazole, boric acid, probiotics, apple cider, hydrogen peroxide, I have BV every single time after intercourse. But im not sure it was only that, becouse i had itchy urinating, red spots on penis and a white liquid. And now im understanding that i get Metronidazole for nothing becouse i thought i had only Gardnerella. And for this thing i get treated 2 times becouse i thought it was not cured very well.. And these final days when i finish the second treatment with metronidazole ( for nothing i think ) after 2 days i drinked beer and i had this things...
I was doing better with Cipro but showed allergic reaction so I had to stop it on fifth day and had some days without antibiotics. Then another urologist gave me metronidazole for 9 days to fight the gardnerella vaginallis but I wasn't feeling any better so he told me to take also doxat for non specific urethritis but still didn't feel any better .
Me n my fiance are trying to have a baby. We have been for about 4 months. I had experieced bleeding for two days and it was very light. Im nasious after i eat and my body has been feeling like dead weight latly, im always tired. Could the meds of caused this side affect? or could i be preg. A fishy odor that is felt most after sex or washing with soap goes in favor of bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis is usually caused by Gardnerella vaginalis bacteria or a combination of bacteria. A decrease in the good bacterial flora (lactobacillus) and an increase in infection causing bacterial is the cause. It is not clear how the infection comes. It's not thought to be a STD as women who have not had sex can also get it.
OK that's for yeast infection. so now you have been given treatment for everything.. antibiotic, antiparasitic, anti-fungal.
Staph infection is very common, it also depends on the type of Staph. because that type of bacteria is commonly present in our body.
Also test the vaginal PH, if the value is altered, it can be the reason why your body isn't fighting the infection properly. mind the clothes you use, the water, everything.
I was treated with a 7 day course of Flagyl for the gardnerella this week. Please could you explain why the male partner is not given the same treatment to avoid reinfection? I`m concerned that a new sexual contact between us will result in me getting gardnerella again. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for prompt reply - appreciated it! Let me give you some background for my concerns... Few days after sexual intercourse I experienced problems ie. burning pains in urethra especially after urination. After visiting urologist and taking urethral sample in the lab I was diagnosed Gardnerella. Antibiotics were prescribed for me and problems seem to fade away now. Yesterday my wife - who did vaginal test - got her lab results and to our surprise her test was negative to Gardnerella?!
I would be careful with antibiotics. I went through a year of alternating BV/Yeast infections. The antibiotics for the BV would kill off all the bacteria, including the good bacteria which would then cause a yeast infection.
What worked for me was to irrigate my vagina with hydrogen peroxide 3% (the kind you can buy off the shelf at the drug store). I would just get a syringe and fill it up and insert it vaginally and release it.
I went to the doctor for a full set of STD tests and everything came back negative except Gardnerella. The doctor has gave me flagyl 500g twice daily for 10 days.
Few questions I have is
1. I thought men shouldn't be treated for this?

Hi, I'm a male and get tested positive for ureaplasma parvum positive and Gardnerella two months ago. Then I went to government clinic for help, they said is not STD or STIs. Then I got urine frequency two weeks. I hv to go to pee for 10-15mins. And I went to private clinic they gave me metronidazole 200MG and doxycap 100MG twice a day and offered a urine routine test. I hv been taking antibiotics for 7days, but my urine frequent still not cured. So what can I do?
i made an appointment with a urologist and he stuck a tube down the urethra to have a look he said everything looked normal he prescribed ciprofloxacin for a 10 day dose and if sympthoms still persisted he precribed metronidazole for ten days in case of prostitas....Sympthoms are still here and im half way through the metronidazole.. i finshed the ciproflaxcin ten days ago already...

I have been testing positive for gardnerella Vaginalis for the last 8 months or so.I am male. I go on Metronidazole, Duolac for a week, get re-tested and test positive again, and then start the whole antibiotic process again. My partner is negative. I have no symptoms at all, and get sick when on the antibiotics. Recently, as well as still having Gardnerella, I have tested positive for Candida. I live in South Korea and the doctor again is ready for me to go and pick up the latest meds.
I was positive for chlamydia but negative for gonorrhoea. I was treated the same day I took the test for chlamydia (1g Azithromycin) and 2 days later I was treated with Suprax/Cefixime for potential gonorrhoea. My long term partner received the same treatment on a precautionary basis.
My symptoms cleared after a weak and its now 4.5 weeks after treatment. I re-tested myself last week for both Chlam/Gonorr with a home test which came back negative for both.
They treated me with a Rocephin IM 250mg shot and 2 pills of Zithromax which is the standard treatment for gonorrrhea. will this cure Gardnerella as well since that is actually what i have?
There is no need to treat a positive culture for gardnerella. In patients with bacterial vaginosis, the concentrations of gardnerella may be increased but without symptoms there is no need to treat.

I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV?
Hope someone can shed some light on this.
