my husband had c-diff colitis on and off for the past 3 months, he was given vancomycin for 14 days then after 2 weeks it flare up again. He was given metronidazole for 7 days, but after 2 weeks the diarrhea starts again, what is the treatment for this? Is taken so much antibiotics good for him, it seems it kills the good bacteria. What can you tell me about this.
Also, some cdiff have become resistant to the metronidazole and the patient requires oral vancomycin for 2 weeks and then needs to be tapered off the vancomycin over another 2 weeks.
I would predict that the cdiff toxin could last for several days after the infection has cleared but I am no expert of this exact topic.

She can do a stool test for something called C. difficile toxin to see if you have the antibiotic associated colitis (pseudomembranous colitis) and she can prescribe an antibiotic for you (usually Metronidazole). I suggest seeing your doctor as soon as possible and not delay, as I can see you have been having trouble for some time by looking at your previous posts.
Last Friday I went in for a sigmoidoscopy and the doctor found inflammation in my rectum and sigmoid colon and small patches of ulceration. My bowel movements are normal and have no blood just a bit of mucus. They have been like this for over 3 weeks since the original episode. The doctor has taken biopsys and seems to think it's definitely ulcerative colitis.
Prior to my last visit I had my lymphocytic colitis under control. Subsequent to the dental appointment, I suffered with diarrhea and excess gas for 17 days before getting it under control again.
Fact is most antibotics will kill the good bacteria along with their intended purpose and reactions differ depending on which antibiotic taken. Something we sufferers will just have to endure I guess.
Mucus can be due to internal hemorrhoid or it can also be due to amoebiasis (if you feel an urge to pass stool) which is an infection. It is effectively treated with metronidazole and tinidazole. You should get your stool examined for this infection. At times a hemorrhoid is associated with fissure and this too can be a cause. Inflammatory bowel conditions such as IBS, Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis too can cause mucus in stool.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined.
I'll be as brief as possible. I have seen over 7 doctors and I have yet to get a diagnosis on this mysterious set of symptoms.
July 19, 2009: Three hours after eating a large meal, I felt horrible stomach pain, dizziness, headache, fast heart...i thought i was having a heart attack.
August 09: Blood work normal. Stool samples positive for Dientamoeba Fragilis trophozoites and Endoimax Nana.
For the past year, my wife has been having almost constant liquid pass and the area around her anus is just totally sore. Our new GI is treating it like IBS/Colitis with wechol and other meds.
My wife lost her entire colon to cancer some years ago. They made a J pouch of small intestine and did anastamosis to her anus via stripped rectum (IPAA) and she has always had frequent loose bowel movements, but not liquid.
I know this is absurdely high and have already made a doctors appointment but want to go in prepared and knowing at least something about it. I have ulcerative colitis and recently went through a bout of diarrhea for 2 weeks but am no longer dehydrated as i'm still urinating and drinking plenty of fluids. Plus the diarrhea stopped at least a week ago.
I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV?

In terms of my stool, it looks very flaky in nature, never anything solid and always a light light brown colour. And when I pass gas, the smell is very unpleasant. My stomach hurts in two places. There is a constant pain in the lower abdomen that feels a mixture of pressure, constipation and sometimes as if there is something moving in my stomach, creating that sense of pressure. Than everytime I eat, but only when I eat, I feel sharp pains just below my sternum.
Last November I had a total colectomy with an ileoanal pull through for ulcerative colitis. The pouch was created during the first surgery but I had a colostomy for a few months while it all healed. In February then I had the colostomy reversed. Since then, I have had multiple complications. At first there was a great deal of pain with bowel movements. That has finally subsided however, I currently have 12 -20 bowel movements a day with several occuring at night.
at first i didnt bother it but after my medication in soar throat and allergy(urcatitaria), my vagina started to became itchy and again, everyday i started having green discharged for `1 week. i went to a gynecologist and she prescribed me a metronidazole miconazole vaginal suppository and ive used that for `1 week.. now what my problem is, my white discharge had stop.. i am also currently taking up medice for my UTI and had experiexed sex but that was like long time ago...
Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet.
Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
I was prescribed it last week for a bacterial infection. Took it 4 times and my face started to break out in a rash. Called the pharmacist and then the doctor. Both said i was having an allergic reaction to the medicine. Both said to stop taking it. I go to the doctor next week to ddiscuss other options. So just watch out for that.....
