Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol medicine

Avatar f tn It definitely helps to hear the experiences that people have had with this medicine. I have taken couple of tablets now. So far it has slowed me down a lot !!! I feel like laying down all the time. Last night I woke up sweaty and little bit fast heart rate. Should this medicine be taken in the morning or at night? I have been taking it during the day and it just makes me groggy and slow. Please share your experiences. Thanks!!!

Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
443862 tn?1238003039 Is anyone taking metoprolol? It's driving me nuts! I do have anxiety disorder. And of course knowing they gave me this to lower my heart rate makes me nervous. And with my anxiety disorder I am taking my blood pressure every hour. I know that doesn't help. But dealing with the metoprolol, it has dropped me to 88/55 at times, today 112/73, then 93/55 then 142/70. I get hot flashes, shakes, tingling arms, a general feeling of panic when I see my reading is low or I feel the shakes....

Avatar n tn I have taken metoprolol 50mg twice a day ever since. I've had a tired feeling ever since the heart attack. My Dr.said it was the metoprolol but I needed to take it. Recently I passed out. I wore a holtzer moniter. It showed a short run of V Tach, so I had a nuclear stress test. Everything was good on Stress Test, Ejection fraction was 43%. Large severe fixed anteroapical and distal wall defect conistent with prior MI, no evidence of ischemia, was all the report said. My Dr.
Avatar f tn I've been taking 25mg of metoprolol for a little over a month for SVT. I thought I was going to have an ablation but at my last doctor appt my ekg was normal and doc and there was no need for an ablation. My SVT is caffeine induced and since I quit drinking caffeine I've had no palpatations. He reduced my medicine from 25mg to 12.5 and said if that worked I could eventually quit taking it. He also told me to drink plenty of fluids and walk 40 min. every day.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia. Millions of tests & experiments later, I have been put on 100mg Metoprolol Tartrate. It works WONDERS & my heartrate has gone down from the 160s to about the 70s. The only downside of it is occasional extreme fatigue where I am literally falling asleep at my desk at work. My cardiologist says it's because the meds are dropping my blood pressure but nothing to be alarmed about.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used metoprolol during pregnancy and had a healthy pregnancy? I am 31 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with SVT and have been prescribed metoprolol 25 MG once a day until I give birth. I am very nervous about it.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Metoprolol for two weeks. I am having alot of side effects and want to stop taking it. Do I have to wean myself off of it if I have only been taking it for two weeks? If so how do I wean off of it?
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone out there was using Metoprolol for their SVT on an as needed basis??? I have SVT and was started out on this drug and took it for a few months. With ok from my doctor I quit taking it. I hadn't had any episodes for about 6 months then I had one last night while I was sleeping. And it was a bad one, the kind where you think your gonna die. :( My doctor had told me that some people can take Metoprolol on an as needed basis. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Has anyone developed Arthritis like side effects? I started taking Metoprolol (25 mg) in Feb of 2012 and suddenly in August my right hip began to develop severe pain. I did not relate this to being a side effect so had tests which showed "minor Arthritis and small tear in Labrum. The joint specialist started physical therapy and the hip finally got well enough to get off crutches and only use a cane by December.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone ever heard of heavy feeling tired legs as a side effect of Metoprolol ? I'm on a relatively low dose of 25 mg BID if the tartrate.
Avatar m tn Propranolol has a reportedly better shortening effect on Long Q than Metoprolol. Are you taking Metoprolol Tartrate? Metoprolol has a very short half life; typically 5 hours or so. In that time, half of it is metabolized. Physicians usually prescribe Metoprolol to be taken twice a day beca use of his. MetoprololSuccinate is the time release version, and that is taken once a day. In addition 25mg. is an exceedingly small dose.

407053 tn?1202002233 Metoprolol is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether metoprolol will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment ok so my question is this.... has anyone ever been on this from the beginning of a pregnancy and had a healthy baby? has anyone had miscarriages and was on this drug? im desperate and cant lose another pregnancy.....
Avatar f tn I have tried other beta blockers including metoprolol. Metoprolol did not agree with me. It actually caused my heartbeat to race, or jump quickly, when I would get exerted. I went back to atenolol 25 mg.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible! I had vertigo and dizziness for hours after just from laying flat for 10 minutes.
Avatar n tn When I decided to try to get pregnant, by heart dr. switched me to Metoprolol. Now, my OB says I should have stayed on Atenolol, because no studies have been done on Metoprolol. I'm very concerned. Any feedback?
Avatar n tn I came on here today to Google all my med and hair loss, and came across many pages of hair loss from Metoprolol. What can be done about this medicine and the loss of my hair? I can't walk around bald headed!
Avatar f tn I'm going to my cardiologist in a couple of days to ask if I can try a different medicine. (I've already cut down my dosage of metoprolol a couple of times, with her approval.) Right now I'm going to google some alternatives, like calcium channel blockers, and something called carvedilol. Also ACE-inhibitors and angiotensin-II receptor antagonists.
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar m tn Is it necessary/compulssary to remain on BP medicine? Which one is Best Metpure XL-50 or Temisartan This discussion is related to Not taking blood pressure medicine.
967168 tn?1477588089 I think I had to go through a transition to get over a too low BP, but my BP is not normal. I take 50 mg of Metoprolol and 240 mg of a CCB, forget the name. I take the low cost generics, so I don't have the extended release and take each 1/2 twice a day.
Avatar f tn I was also having a lot of anxiety and panic attacks at that time. I was prescribed metoprolol 25 mg. My blood pressure is usually normal and after taking the medicine it had been getting a little too low so I was told to take only half. My bp is still getting down to 92/60 at times and is making me feel tired and lightheaded. Has anyone experienced this? I am worried about my bp getting even lower and making me pass out. The nurse at my cardiologist office told me not to skip my dose.
Avatar n tn After wearing a heart monitor for 24 hrs my Doctor told me that I had tachycardia and prescribed 25 mg metoprolol once a day.I have been taking the medicine for six days now and feel generally unwell. I'm tired and my stomach has been bothering me. More importantly, I have been having a kind of "needling" pain in my chest. It's mild and not very painful.
Avatar m tn Should I taper myself off of this medicine and hope they eventually go into remission? I see some talk about their PVC frequency and they talk about them hitting "every once and a while". But mine are almost like contractions. I can set a stopwatch and they will hit about few minutes, almost down to the second. I want my life back and I feel like these little devils have taken over my life. I am currently morbidly obese (450 pounds).
Avatar n tn The metoprolol will need to be taken lifelong, as will the aspirin. If you have had a heart attack or have a weakened heart muscle then you need the lisinopril. The lipitor depends on your LDL cholesterol levels-- very likely you will need that lifelong to keep your bad cholesterol <70.
Avatar f tn The metoprolol is for PVC's that I am constantly experiencing. They never go away and are often so strong that I cannot sleep at night. I have had an ultra sound, ECG, stress test and worn a holter monitor. Specialist said my heart looks good except a leaky valve which she seemed unconcerned about. This medication makes me feel so tired and I am concerned about the long term use of it. I have stopped taking it until today because my pvc's are so strong.
