Metoprolol and cholesterol

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and cholesterol

Avatar f tn 49 yr old female..had PVCs..PACs..for 17 years...and, now, as of a 48 hr holter worn last week--ive had 4300 Supraventricular Ectopic beats. Never heard of SVE before, but my cardiologist told me it is NOT life threatening even though I have the beginnings of Coronary artery disease...have some "areas of narrowings" that I am working on thru diet, exercise and cholesterol meds. I can go days without a palpitation, and then bam. they are there with a vengeance.
Avatar m tn and everything came back normal. Also, my cholesterol is 137. I was taken off of the ramipril and put on 12.5mg of metoprolol twice a day. I started Monday and my heart rate hardly ever goes above 60 bpm; even standing and when I walk at a normal pace it stays in the 70's. I can't go for long walks without being exhausted, though today I was happy that I managed to get my heart rate up to 102 (at that pace it normally would have been at 118-124). I'm feeling tired often.

Avatar n tn They insisted at this juncture to put in a pacemaker and put her on Metoprolol, Warfarin, CartiaXT (cardizem), and her usual Norvasc and Atakan. Since this episode and these medications, she has experienced extreme swelling of the lower extremities and now a painful tingling that starts in the late afternoon each and every day and no exercise diminishes the swelling, so she puts them up.
15860670 tn?1443544854 Well you're in luck, because I take both Metoprolol as well as a Statin, so I can give you some advice. 200mg of Metoprolol wrecked me, and I'm a very active person usually. It felt like I was walking in concrete shoes. Every step was an effort, and any physical effort caused a heavy weight feeling in my chest. My heart just wouldn't get up to speed. Fortunately I was on that dose for about 3 weeks before my physician and I cut it back to 100mg.
Avatar m tn I really need to know if the Atenolol have less CNS side-effects than the Metoprolol? Did the insomnia and vivid dreams will go away? And for the tiredness? Also, for the dose, did 37.5 mg of Atenolol is the same as 75 mg of Metoprolol? I did some research about the dose equivalency and what I find out is that 50 mg of Atenolol = 100 mg of Metoprolol... but I still wonder if it's true for everyone or not? My Cardilogist ask me to split my dose and take it every 12 hours...
Avatar f tn I have been on 25 mg 2X/day Metoprolol since then and was just cut off cold turkey because my GP wants me to come in to see her before she renews the script. I was on an MS medication called Rebif for two years prior to all of this. No Heart or high Cholesterol problems in my family. I was 51. I walked 5K 3 times a week. I wasn't in a high stress job and was happy. In November I became uncomfortable enough my fiance took me to the hospital after having a major attack at 2 a.m.
Avatar f tn Both episodes were resolved after I took 25mg of Metoprolol and 1/2 of the smallest dose of ativan. Both have also included jaw pain and pain between my shoulder blades with my heart "Jumping" out of my chest. I have taken betablockers for a short time in the past, but they have made me feel awful. I have also taken digitalis, which made me feel terrible as well. Holter moniter tests prove inconclusive. Stress tests are negative. My EKG shows a slight irregularity on the t-wave.
Avatar m tn For the past one month My Systolic goes increasing and varies between 150 and 170mm/Hg. No change in diastolic and its well under 85mm/Hg most of the times. The doc said to increase Losartan by another 25mg thus the total 50mg. Is it ok to go for such dose change as I worried about low BP particularly diastolic. Other doc said to increase Metoprolol to 50mg ER and losartan 25mg. I dont know which one to follow.
Avatar f tn Hi! I'm a 40 y.o. female with healthy blood pressure (average 115/70), healthy cholesterol levels and healthy low, steady heart rate (65 beats per minute resting). I'm 5'8" 130 lbs. I have a dilated descending aorta with an aneurysm at 5.1 cm (51 mm). The cardiologist also mentioned I have calcium in the aorta. The docs recently prescribed me a beta blocker called Metoprolol (12.5 mg twice daily).
Avatar n tn Your cholesterol numbers sound good to me. Metoprolol at 25 mg is a very low dose, some may take lower, I have never been lower that 50 mg myself and my cholesterol numbers are similar to yours. Sorry if I missed your point, but I think you seem to be doing rather well with what you are doing.
Avatar m tn 5'10'') that has been diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder and High Blood Pressure and Obesity. I have been dealing with chest pains and scares for the last couple of years. in the last year i have gone to the ER 3 times for chest pains (got xray, blood work, multiples ecg and nothing was shown). I am also have been on lexapro for the last 6 months. and Lisinopril for 4 months. I decided to go to the cardiologist, and he did multiple ecg, and a stress echo and everything was normal.
Avatar f tn If I drink or smoke I tend to have bad episodes with pulse up to 160 and bp 160/100. I have had several EKG's and chest x rays and labs drawn with nothing found. I even had a ecg sonogram of my heart that showed nothing. I frequently have chest pain and abdominal pain after meals. two friends whom I smoked with had their gall bladder go out but I still have mine. I frequently have bowell pain and heart burn s well. Even try maneuvers invade I had a hiatal hernia.
Avatar m tn It was after this that I was put on the simvastatin and metoprolol. I also take aspirin ( full dose ) and flecainide for the afib. Both the metoprolol and flecainide are taken at a low dose. My readings before I started the simvastatin, were ( 140 total ) HDL 33 LDL 79 and Triglycerides 139 . What has changed is that my HDL has gone down to 24 from 33 LDL has gone down to 65. So basically Everything has gone down, what has him worried is the HDL has gone down.
Avatar n tn Her PMH is insignif. really--hysterectomy 15 yrs ago (no HRT), mild/mod OA. She has had elevated cholesterol but has taken Lipitor for years and it is well-controlled. Her cardiologist increased her Toprol XL fr/25 mg/d to 25 mg BID, which had some transient positive effect that lasted ~2d b/f degrading back to pre-increase frequency. She asked her cardio about an EP study, but he's opted to cath her instead.
Avatar f tn I have normal BMI, excersice up to 120 bmp three times a week ( I am on 150 mg metoprolol), normal cholesterol, do not smoke but use oral tobacco (swedisch “snus”) on a daily basis since many years. By the way, I wonder how you estimate your maximum excersise level when you are on 125 mg metoprolol, 47 years? I easily go up to over 120 bpm with moderate excersise and my resting pulse has elevated in the last month to about 70-80 bpm, in spite of the betablockers.
1124887 tn?1313758491 I'm taking 25 mg metoprolol and occationally 10-20 mg of propranolol because of anxiety, sinus tachycardia and PACs. I've got a stress test done, lots of EKG's (one of them uploaded on my profile), Holter, echo x 2, troponine after having a rapid heart rate, and a lot of other blood tests. Everything is completely normal except for the rare PACs and some sinus tachycardia.
Avatar m tn Personally, I can do without the fish oil. My good cholesterol is low and my bad cholesterol is high. I'm only 37 years old and already have cholesterol spots in my eyes according to my eye doctor and my dad had severe atherosclerosis. I suppose just eating oatmeal, avoiding egg yolks, hamburgers and fries will suffice. Fish oil is for the birds.
Avatar n tn Not libido, but maintaining a firm erection. I went off Zocor, and Dyazide 3 months ago for financial reasons and the problem went away. I have started to take the Dyzazide againg and the problem seems to be starting again. It appears the problem is therefore Dyazide related. I am going to see my doctor in a couple of weeks and am trying to be informed before I see him.
Avatar n tn Maintaining Healthy Cells by Resolving Inflammation The epidemic of “Metabolic Syndrome” is now recognized as abdominal obesity, rising cholesterol, and pre-diabetes. Evidence shows that low levels of generalized inflammation and cellular stress are linked to insulin resistance and weight gain, and this creates an avenue for the Metabolic Syndrome to develop.
Avatar f tn I am on 75 mgs of metoprolol twice aday now. My pb stays up and I am still passing out at times. The good things about it is , I can breath better now and I can walk faster now too. I would say it did help me some , and I have not had to have my heart stoped yet sence I had it done! So it wasnt a total wast! I am just one of the ones that need it done again! My Dr says he knows where to go this time and where it is. First they must make a map of the sorce and then they can work on it!
Avatar f tn I was put on a cholesterol drug and told to lose weight and exercise...that he didnt see a need for the cath lab as long as I worked on the risk factors. cholesterol has dropped down to very small numbers. Amazing ..the results. losing weight hasnt worked too well, and working out, because I hurt my knee, hasnt been able to happen in the past 6 months. But..otherwise, Im fine. My question, finally, is...
Avatar m tn My question is ... why both losartan (an Angiotensin II) and metoprolol (a beta blocker)? Don't they both do the same thing by lowering blood pressure and opening up the coronary arteries? She is also tiny in height (5 ft) and I'm concerned that both are too much for her. She's already complained about the losartan saying that within an hour after taking it, she couldn't keep her eyes open or do anything much but sleep. Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn We're all very individual, and Person A can start Synthroid and have RT3 go up, while Person B's will go down and it will have absolutely no effect on Person C's. Has your doctor offered any alternative besides Synthroid?
Avatar n tn I did start an extensive exercise/diet program ( no fads or drugs, just watching what I eat with lots of cardio) 4 months ago and lost over 30 lbs and was feeling better and stronger than I had in many years. Went to have it checked out and all tests came back within normal limits except for mild hypertension for which atenolol was prescribed in low dose. It seemed that this drug lowered my pulse rate even lower to around 50 and I felt like a slug.
Avatar m tn The first day I tried to ignore and had a afternoon in hot sun of tennis for a few hours and felt fine. But that sensation continued on and off. Cardiologist ordered holter monitor for 24 hours. He called the next day concerned because it show irregular beats (PVC) with one lasting over 20 beats (12 seconds). He put me on Metoprolol right away. I still feel occasional flutter but they have been on decrease since initial feelings from last week.
Avatar m tn 41 year old male. I need to lose 25-30 lbs.. With treatment, my triglycerides are a little high, and my HDL is in the low 40s. My BP is 120/70 at rest. My father, who died in 1991 at the age of 52. He had a heart attack at 39, had 4 bypasses, never took care. Late 90s: Due to some minor chest discomfort and flutters, my doctor suggested that I have an echo stress test...negative.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in emergency and given 50 mg metoprolol and aspirin. They checked me into the hospital to monitor me over night and my heart converted back to normal sinus rhythm during transfer from emergency to the hospital room. The doctor prescribed 50 mg metaprolol twice a day as well as aspirin. I later cut this in half. My sitting heart rate was in the low 40s (normally it had been in low 50s) and I felt very listless. Since then I have occasional bouts about one every week or two.
Avatar m tn I too recently started experiencing PVC's during exercise - or anything I do that speeds up my heartrate (vacuuming didn it this weekend) and while sometimes they will stop immediately - most of the time, they last 3-4 hours afterwards. I ended up in ER a couple weekends ago - my HR was 119 and I was having PVC's every 3 beats. Funny thing though - once Dr came in and said I was fine - they immediately went away and I didnt have another one while in there for 2 more hours.
