Metoprolol and zoloft

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and zoloft

Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
Avatar m tn I did try the Atenolol, Nadolol, they are not lipophilic and apparently do not produce CNS side-effects but they lower too much my blood pressure and didn't see a lot of difference between the side-effects from the water solube and lipophilic ones... They all make me tired, some of them are worse and the Bisoprolol and Metoprolol are the worse for me in term of side-effects. The half-life of the Metoprolol is between 3 to 7 hours...
Avatar m tn Thanks for the informative responses. I currently take 100 mg of Metoprolol every day and have Xanax for emergencies. I haven't taken any Xanax as of yet. I had a nuclear stress test and ECG less than two weeks ago and both were completely normal. I just hate this skipping heart stuff. I don't know why it scares me so much. Anything that aggravates it really causes me concern. I want to continue with the Zoloft in hopes that it helps my ongoing anxiety problems.
10139253 tn?1426478980 I take 4 or 5 medicines, Zoloft Lithium Klonopin and Metoprolol and have been always tired..... i want to try and get off the Zoloft, been on it since 2005.... and 200mg since 2009...... i am scared though..... anyone got any tips, i was put on it for Panic Disorder not Depression although one causes the other.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am going to be applying to receive a medical marijuana card for treatment of my Tourette, severe anxiety disorder and PTSD. I take 25mg of Metoprolol Tartrate every morning solely for anxiety to slow my heart rate down (I tend to get anxiety episodes where tachycardia is the main symptom). I’m wondering if anyone (preferably a doctor, of course) would know if medical cannabis would interact with beta blockers, such as Metoprolol Tartrate.
Avatar m tn A little background - I take also take Omeprazol (for GERD), Metoprolol (for BP) and have lost about 80+/- pounds in last year and 1/2. My doctor originally thought it was BPPV and I dutifully went in for the P.T. sessions, which provided about a week’s relief. I have - to date - 3 different blood panels, vision test, EKG, Chest X-ray, MRI - still dizzy when I turn my head - even looking down at my screen now sets it off. I’m not anemic, my thyroid is fine, magnesium levels good.
Avatar f tn I want to give myself at least a month to recover from the c-section and for the zoloft/toprol to start working and calm me down before I go to my GP and likely have him send me for said tests. Right now I hurt a lot and am having panic attacks. I had one in the hospital right before I was sent home from the c-section and now at home I'm a nervous wreck that can't sleep well. Oddly, the only time I'm CALM is when I'm holding my new daughter.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 150 mg of zoloft and 25 mg of metoprolol. I am going out with a few friends tonight and was wondering if anything bad will happen if I have a 2 or 3 alcohol drinks. I never drink so it is not like I drink all the time.
Avatar n tn I had a heart double bypass in 2003, my feet are swelling and numb,I take a lot of meds. glucophage, actos, metoprolol, zetia, atacand, tricor, lipitor toprol-xl,sinemet,zoloft,wellbutrin. I'am worried about p.a.d. I had a stress test a little over a year ago, Doc said everything looked good. Could sitting make my feet swell? Iam the type that hears about something, right away I think I have it.
Avatar n tn 5 mg per day is there any chance that my body could build up a tolerance to it? And does the Beta Blocker weaken the heart in any way? Could those rates and there durations be caused be panic attacks and anxiety/stress? I had an ekg 1 month before this all started and it was normal with a NSR. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
Avatar m tn I'm just so scared that things are never going to improve and I can't go on like this. I live in Michigan, and have not seen ONE doctor who understands, or knows where I'm coming from. I'm on no medicines besides Ativan as needed ( which is EVERY DAY ) for panic attacks. My anxiety is really out of control because feeling dizzy and sick scares me into panic attacks all the time. So I guess I have a few questions here... Is there any hope of things getting better?
Avatar m tn Yes, you are right, there are interactions between metoprolol and most SSRIs. They inhibit an enzyme used to metabolise metoprolol. I'm not sure if your doctor is aware of this, you could mention it to him. Alternatives are choosing an SSRI that do not inhibit this enzyme (I don't think Zoloft does more than mildly) or choose another beta blocker (like Atenolol or propranolol). You should ask your doctor.
Avatar n tn im 30 years old and ive been battling acid reflux, heart arrythmias, panic attacks, anxiety attacks and low testosterone for more than ten years and it *****. right now im taking zoloft, metoprolol, zantac and androgel, so let me tell u from experience your definately suffering from panic attacks, and worrying about it every time it happens only makes it worse, or feeling like your going to die those combinations just intensify panic attacks by 100 times, anyway i hope this helps, good luck.
612551 tn?1450025775 I will try again, this subject has not brought any responses in an attempt a few months back. I believe, and my cardiologist confirms it is possible, that Metoprolol (beta blocker) cause me to have unwanted dreams every night... never miss a night, or even a nap, always dream and dreams that are slightly upsetting. I like to call them troublemare not nightmare. I have tried, with doc's approval, changing how much and when I take my BB.
Avatar n tn my girlfriend were very high sexed when we were younger, she now takes Zoloft and has slown down also. I'm not sure if Viagra is safe for anyone with high blood pressure. But I think if my blood pressure was as low as yours I would have my doctor lower or change my level of BP medicine. Lopressor/(Metoprolol) is the worst. My dad was still taking the same dose for 20 years...even though he had lost 100 pounds, quit drinking and quit smoking. I have found if you don't tell you doctor...
Avatar n tn You should discuss with a psychiatrist how to better address anxiety with behavioral and medical therapy. 2. Metoprolol is also short-acting so I would consider using either metoprolol succinate (toprol XL) daily or propranolol for supression of PVCs. 3. I have heard from patients that magnesium tablet, available OTC, are good for suppressing PVCs and palpitations.
Avatar n tn Anxiety can certainly cause dizzy and light headedness amoung other things. In my case, I have lost of stress and anxiety, and I feel that the anxiety causes my dizziness when I have a PVC, as is my shortness of breath and a host of other symptoms. I can not tell if the anxiety causes the PVC's or, the PVC's cause the anxiety, they are so closely related.
Avatar n tn But I went in and explained this to her and she wants me to try lexapro 10 mg a day so I am and a Blocker.. Metoprolol. sorry if I spelt it wrong.. but I was curious if anyone could explain to me how low the heart rates can go I mean i've hit 54 ( this is my first dosage aswell) .. and the blood pressure with the added xanax and such ( I can take up to 4mg a day but I rarely go past 2.5mg) and only 2 mg so far today.. I have had readings of heart rate around 57 or slightly lower 54..
Avatar m tn I also started on Zoloft. In June of this year, I had minor chest burning for about 3 minutes, was flush and my heart rate went to 140. Went to the ER. They gave me Metoprolol, and within an hour, I was fine. I was admitted overnight to the telemetry area. Blood and enzyme testing, d'dimer..Negative. Lung CT, no blood clot. My Cardiologist kept me on all current meds but added 60mg of inderal.
Avatar n tn thats the last time I went to the ER..well, first time and last time...they ran all tests on me and came back and said its nothing. Just stress. They come...and they go...just as quick. Every time they come back..I THIS time different?? Is THIS the time that a doctor should see them? I havent had them in quite a while...and last Saturday night...I had a panic attack (yes I have those too). I got over it...but suddenly, on MONDAY I wake up and BAM!!! Palpitations all over the place!
Avatar f tn My cardiologist called it Atrial Flutter, which converted to Atrial Fibrillation (not an improvement). To the point, with Metoprolol my resting HR is always below 100 and when really at rest goes into the 70s. I have no experience on BB taken with anxiety meds, but can say I don't recall ever reading of a problem. Seems this should be an easy one for your doctor... shows how much I know.
Avatar n tn called Ambrotose, it has completely alleviated the chest pain and shortness of breath as long as I take it everyday. And another product called PLUS which supports the endocrine system which is the root problem of this disorder... the adrenal glands aren't functioning correctly, so this helps balance it out. It helps tackle the root prob and not just the symptoms like prescription meds.
1106222 tn?1258114236 or PVC's (skipped beats) It completely scared me so I made an appointment and saw my doctor who of course told me it was anxiety and not to worry about it. I was put on zoloft which made my anxiety and symptoms 10x worse. So I went off the zoloft. I also went off caffeine completely and noticed a SIGNIFICANT decrease in my symptoms. I would suggest going off caffeine all together- hard at first but you get used to it, I promise.
Avatar f tn Also, the diltiezem which is a calcium channel blocker is similar to a drug i used to take for a few weeks called metoprolol. I had to stop it because it made me feel weird and a little depressed. I wonder if you can lower the dosage on that one or stop it. My mother in law takes lasix but was also told too stop taking her beta blocker and that she didn't need to be taking both. Do you have congestive heart failure? The 1 med you are on is used for that I see.
Avatar m tn But I did have some exotic fish who I did develop a personal relationship with in that they would do certain antics. recognize who fed them and who didn't. And make certain types of noise to let me know I was behind on a water change. Trust me, exotic and not your everday variety. My main interest in the fish was that I love dogs but it was the best I could do in an apartment. The fire fighters assured me that if my fish were alive, they would do everything they could to protect life.
1198633 tn?1341185988 doctor on April 20th to further discuss my problems and on May 10th I'm going to see an allergy specialist to find out the severity of my allergies and get a needle test done. I am on Protonix and take ranitidine to try and relieve some of these problems but they usually give me little to no relief. I also take antacids basically on a daily basis. I've been taking Acidophilus also but I'm about to stop it because it doesn't seem to help either. My G.P. started me on a high fiber diet.
Avatar m tn my anxiety and PACs with Metoprolol and Zoloft (beta blocker and SSRI). I guess I feel a couple of them a day now. Sometimes, I can get 8-10 a minute, and it often happens with changes in position, lying on the left side, kneeling, stretching, etc.
Avatar m tn He knows all the meds I currently take, of course. I've been reading online that Zoloft and Metoprolol can interact together in a dangerous way. I am sure my doctor knew this, so I am wondering why I was given this combination? Does anybody know about this interaction? Is it only dangerous if I were taking much higher dosages? I have to wait a month between each doctor appointment due to my terrible insurance, so I can't get an answer quickly.
990098 tn?1281433643 but I am a week into zoloft (low dose of 50mg daily) and taking xanax as needed. I haven't noticed a whole lot from the zoloft yet, but have only been taking it a week and it is a low dose. I've been reassured by two local cardiologists and my family doctor that these are PACS, they are not dangerous....two cardiologists looked at the results of my echo, holter monitor, and treadmill test and said everything looked good. So, I'm hoping I can try to live in the now....
503727 tn?1210442710 i was taking sertraline (zoloft) and didnt find it effective. i stopped taking it and now im trying to shake the last bit of this anxiety stuff off. meds can be good if you are in really deep anxiety though, only use them temproarily (or at least thats what i say) until you can conquer these panic attacks. having scientific reassurance helps a lot. since you've been tested for multiple things and show up fine, be relieved, that's perfect.
