Avatar n tn In the last two months, it has been discovered that my free T3 and T4 levels are high (6.0pg/mL and 2.43ng/dL, respectively). These levels were normal 18 months ago. Within the last 6 to 9 months I have experienced random occurrences (couple times a month) of an accelarated heart rate which lasts from about 5 to 30 seconds (I do not get dizzy or short of breath). My cardiologist got the readings from an event recorder, and told me it was SVT (about 150bpm).
Avatar f tn I also take Levothyroxine, 75mcg every day and Xanax 0.5mg,2 to 3 times a day for panic and anxiety disorder. Could the sore nipples just be from weaning off Metoprolol since this hasn't bothered me before? A side note: I am not pregnant and do not get periods. Had a Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy about 5 years ago with several fibroid tumors removed.
Avatar m tn hr was really high even on 50mg of metoprolol succ, and so was my bp. I was on it for 4 days and felt extremely nervous the whole time. in a month or two, I may try something else.
Avatar n tn Not libido, but maintaining a firm erection. I went off Zocor, and Dyazide 3 months ago for financial reasons and the problem went away. I have started to take the Dyzazide againg and the problem seems to be starting again. It appears the problem is therefore Dyazide related. I am going to see my doctor in a couple of weeks and am trying to be informed before I see him.
Avatar m tn They were able to get it back to normal in the ICU and I was on meds for a few months. The second time (1 year and 1/2 later) I was laying in bed and my leg cramped and I had an episode. Again, they got it under control and informed me that because I have had issues in the past I was 80% more likely to have it again. My current cardiologist has me in a daily dose of Metoprorol and baby asprin. I have been on this for over 2 years now and they have not changed anything.
Avatar n tn It seems that the better physical shape I stay in the less I have a problem with A.F. Could exercise have an impact? A: There is no known effect of exercise on atrial fibrillation (AF). Q: Is a pacemaker an alternative? A: In some people who are unable to be controlled with drugs the electrical connection between the atria (upper heart chambers) and ventricles (lower heart chambers) is electrically severed and a pacemaker is placed to control the ventricles.
Avatar m tn Can’t say from my own experiences for me doesn’t matter when I take my metoprolol. But our bodies behave differently and telling us the only truth what is a truth for us as an individual.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Aside from hypertension, Metoprolol may be indicated for migraine and angina as well as treatment of heart failure. There are many types of high blood medications and Metoprolol belongs to the beta blockers. Indeed, these can cause a variety of side effects including diminished in sex drive as well as impotence.

Avatar n tn Hello, I have frequent PVCs, a holter moniter registered 5000+ in one day (and that was a good day). On my last EKG, my Dr. said there was some question about a long QT interval, she said it was nothing to worry about, she didn't even mention it at the time (also, I have had yearly EKGs for about 3 years running, no mention of long QT interval). She also found my TSH levels were high. She put me on 40mg of Inderal, which helps the PVCs.
Avatar n tn Increased effect of metoprolol - amiodarone, cimetidine, diltiazem, nifedipine, nicardipine, verapamil, flecainide, hydralazine, MAO inhibitors, quinidine, ciprofloxacin, propafenone, oral contraeptives, fluoxetine, sertraline. Decreased effect of metoprolol - NSAIDS, salycylates, barbiturates, rifampin, clonidine. The dosage and frequency depend upon the individuals metabolism and the drug being used. There are no substitutes to beta-blockers.

Avatar n tn says I could try a beta blocker for my pvc's. I have tried one a long time ago,(1983) and didn't like it because it made me feel sluggish. Could you comment on a beta blocker that you think is ok, and maybe has few side effects? If there is such a thing. Also ,I just started taking one each, potassium and magnesium pill a day, on the suggestion of this forum. Could be too early to tell, but it seems to be helping. Is this phsyco-symatic on my part or is there something to this as well? Thanks.
Avatar n tn e. atenolol) and calcium channel blockers (i.e. cardizem) can interact with each other and cause a slow heart rate. What does your heart rate usually run? What type of palpitations do you have and do you have any symptoms from them? Here is some additional information about beta-blockers: Both betaxolol (brand name - Kerlone) and carvedilol (brand name -Coreg) belong to a class of medications called beta-blockers.

Avatar n tn As always I thank you for your time and patience in dealing with a mom who is scared of this disease and needs information and reassurance.
Avatar n tn (240 mg Verapamil, 100 mg Metoprolol 3x day, Lanoxin .25 mg, 2.5 Coumadin, Lasix and Potassium as needed.) Limiting my lifestyle, can't walk a round of golf etc. Starting to explore other options and had first meeting with electrophisiologist. radio ablation seems like an option but am not thrilled with dependence on pacemaker.

2203249 tn?1338994046 Selective beta-blockers, such as atenolol and metoprolol, are less effective and are not currently recommended for primary prophylaxis. Likewise, use of isosorbide mononitrate (alone or with nonselective beta blockers) is not currently recommended. Propranolol is usually started at a dose of 20 mg twice daily and nadolol at a dose of 40 mg daily. The goal of therapy is to reduce the WHVP by at least 20% or to a gradient of less than 12 mm Hg.

Avatar n tn Known side effects of Coreg include fatigue, sleep disorders, dizzyness, and GI pains. (See for example SK Beecham site on Carvediolol). My wife uses Coreg and suffers from all these side effects. What are good counter measure drugs or non-drug therapies? What are most severve and cautionary drug interactions with Coreg? Thank you.
Avatar n tn generic (brand name), - propranolol (Inderal), atenolol (Tenormin), Labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), metoprolol (Lopressor), pindolol (Viskin), Nadolol (Corgard), and sotalol (Betapace). These drugs work by binding to a receptor called the beta receptor. Once this receptor is blocked the drug exerts its effect in various methods. The heart rate is slowed, the blood pressure is lowered and heart rhythms are stabilized.
Avatar n tn You should be commended for reducing your caffeine and alcohol intake and avoiding tobacco. The metoprolol is a beta blocker which can suppress the number of PVC's that occur and should not adversely interact with your cardura and HCTZ. Possibly, metoprolol alone can control your blood pressure and have the secondary benefit of reducing the number of PVC's that you have. Metoprolol is often used to treat hypertension by itself.

Avatar m tn I've had vitamin B12 deficiency and magnesium deficiency and I've had quite a few of your symptoms (and many more since I both were severe deficiencies). I have permanent nerve damage from vitamin B12 deficiency and a calcified mitral heart valve from magnesium deficiency. Magnesium deficiency causes pain because calcium contracts the muscles and magnesium relaxes the muscles. Vitamin B12 deficiency could be the reason why your spleen is mildly enlarged.
