Metoprolol and antibiotics

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and antibiotics

808815 tn?1254305481 I found case reports of it occurring with metoprolol and Tramadol. There is no way of predicting who will get it and what really sets it off is not known, but it is rare.
Avatar m tn Hi, according to the new guidelines, prophylactic antibiotics to prevent endocarditis, prior to dental therapy are no longer recommended for individuals with mitral valve prolapse, rheumatic heart disease and bicuspid valve disease. So, you may not need antibiotics. But, please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar f tn Long story short, recovering IV drug abuser who gave myself staph which led to endocarditis and after 2 months of IV antibiotics finally got cracked open and given a new valve. I take my bp meds everyday bid (not exactly the same time ALL the time, but mostly). Also every couple months I go a day or 2 w/o it because I dont have enough money for the RX (very rarely though, maybe 2x a yr).
Avatar f tn About a month ago I was diagnosed with runs of SVT and PVCs. I was placed on Metoprolol 25mgs a day and I feel like a new person. I am using a generic made by Caraco. I am happy to say that I feel better than I have felt in years. I had the SVT and PVCs for years but none of my other cardiologists thought they were frequent enough to treat. Is that because they were males? I went to a female cardiologist and finally I am SVT free.
471161 tn?1317194550 My PCP told me it could be the Metoprolol and I have been off of it for 4 days now. My heart rate is fine and I was down to a very low dose anyway. I am wondering if it will take longer to get it out of my system or if it may be the Digoxin ro something completely different. Please if anyone has experienced this let me know.
Avatar f tn I was on those for many months until my igeneX labs came back positive for Bart's and Babs then I switched antibiotics. Hang in there, we don't want you to get worse or take the wrong meds.
Avatar m tn I take 100 mg Metoprolol a day and take an antibiotic before any dental work, which has been twice in the last 30 days. The antibiotic I took is 2000 mg of amoxicillin. I have not experienced any interaction - and my dentist and cardiologist both know I'm taking both, in fact the cardiologist wrote the prescription for the antibiotic.
1480441 tn?1287709712 Since I wont have it done for another few weeks or so, I'll make sure I get some pre and post antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I am suffering exactly with same disorder when I am sitting and reading or sitting and surfing on mobile or computer. I first experienced it a month ago. My BP is 130/90 and when I went to doctor , they started giving me medicine "Metoprolol succinate extended" for BP control. But I think it is not related to BP or something.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I recently found out that I have a urinary tract infection and have to take antibiotics for 10 days, 2x daily. I really don't like taking medication and am very nervous about it; but I have too in order to get rid of the infection. It's a medication they give pregnant ladies quite often-can't remember the name (nope, not pregnant). My doctor told me not to worry about taking this with the other meds that I take; metoprolol, aciphex (xanax, but I haven't taken that in a while).
Avatar f tn Also, the diltiezem which is a calcium channel blocker is similar to a drug i used to take for a few weeks called metoprolol. I had to stop it because it made me feel weird and a little depressed. I wonder if you can lower the dosage on that one or stop it. My mother in law takes lasix but was also told too stop taking her beta blocker and that she didn't need to be taking both. Do you have congestive heart failure? The 1 med you are on is used for that I see.
Avatar m tn Are you taking metoprolol?... metoprolol does that to me..have to take toprol xl instead.. dunno just wondered...
6823582 tn?1385134346 I followed up with him yesterday evening and he told me to start antibiotics for H pylori infection and later that night after I ate I felt again like I was going to have another episode of afib. Does anyone have the same symptoms? I'm really looking for some answers as I can not go on with life like this. I'm getting married soon and I can not think to start a family with these problems over my head. I need to be a Superman for my kids one day. Not an Old man.
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Avatar n tn I had the same thing about a year ago. My internist placed me on steroids, antibiotics, pain meds, and cough med. All my symptoms were pain over my left carotid artery, I had a cough that was almost constent, I could hardley turn my head, I could not lie in bed on my left side, you could look at my neck and see my pulse pounding, I had pain from my ears all the way down my shoulder. I first went to a nurse practioner who said it was all my ears and to take mucinex.
Avatar n tn Posted by Norm Farrell on April 26, 1999 at 16:11:02 Dear Doctors, I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to get a staight answer to: Is it possible for gas from the stomach to enter the chest cavity or the sac surrounding the heart? Second, I take a daily dossage of 200mg of Metoprolol. If one of the side effect of this drug is lightheadedness, how do I know when this symptom is caused by the drug or by my condition? Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn told me it was Vertigo and treated me with Antibiotics, Steriods and Antivert. They told me that my brain was going into panic mode with the vertigo and was causing my BP to rise. Took all the meds, symptoms got a little better; my GP ordered an EEG just to make sure because my BP was still a little high, the test came back normal and they adjusted my BP meds.
Avatar n tn I know we are all told not to worry about it, but as has been said before, I wish they could be in my shoes and feel these irregularities. Taking a beta blocker (metoprolol) does seem to have some minimal effect, but doesn't always work. As far as anxiety is concerned, for me that is not a problem. So I'm back to square one. As of now I am trying to find an alternative solution (vitamins, Coq10, et.) that will work for me.
534785 tn?1329595808 In any event, my headaches are back with a vengeance because I stopped Propranolol and started on Metoprolol. Thank you both for your input and help. I really appreciate it since most of my doctors aren't that interested in my case and my family and friends don't understand what I'm going through...they're even getting sick of me being sick for so long!
Avatar f tn and generic for lipitor and plavix. No answers from primary doctor or dentist on cause. Lab work normal. Trying to determine cause of Xerostomia and best treatment to prevent future problems. Help!!!
Avatar n tn About three years ago I began having diareaha, bloating and gas and ocassionally, a rapid heart beat immediately after eating. Liquids did not seem to cause the disconfort as much as solid food. I lost around 45 lbs. 18 months ago I developed severe multiple chemical sensitivity, followed by a severe burning in my mouth and throat, and an inability to swallow anything except water for almost one month.Hot flashes and shaking cold followed. Lost another 40lbs.
Avatar n tn The sensation is as if my head and neck are throbbing with pressure and I have to stop walking or slow down and stop and stand still for a minute or so to make the sensation stop. Sounds are muffled in rhythm with the pulsations and I sometimes feel as if I will pass out, but never have. There is no pain. I have been checked throughly by my GP, a cardiologist, and an electrophysiologist and none of them could find a cause.
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
1212424 tn?1266203551 They told me my white blood cell count was up and put me on antibiotics which lowered the white blood cells and my heart was noticably normal. A month or so after it started back up worse than ever. It does it several times a minute. So, I have this weird heart rate which freaks me out on top of my already terrible anxiety. i've been told it was caused by high white blood cells and that it's something metoprolol can fix. I'm not exacty sure what to do.
Avatar m tn I was advised by the attending doctor that I should apply heat and elevate the leg. I did this for 3 full days and nights. After the first day my leg had swollen and had a small blister formed that brke open and there was some slight bleeding.I suffered a stroke 8 years ago caused by atrial fibrilation and a heart attack 3 years ago whereupon I had double by pass surgery. I take 5 mg warfarin and an 81 mg aspirin daily for atrial fibrilation.
Avatar f tn Attacks could last minutes or hours and any combination of symptoms would happen. And in between attacks, my heart would regularly do many strange things - tachy, brady, irregular rhythm, extremely forceful beats, 'flip-flopping' feelings, etc. I also sometimes experienced a sensation of the heart stopping and restarting - immediately after the restart I would feel a MASSIVE, uncomfortable surge of adrenaline and the heart would beat very fast for a little while.
959034 tn?1253675076 Caution is advised if beta-2 adrenergic agonists are used in combination with other drugs that prolong the QT interval, including class IA and III antiarrhythmic agents, certain neuroleptic agents, phenothiazines, tricyclic antidepressants, quinolones, ketolide and macrolide antibiotics, and cisapride. Patients should be advised to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms that could indicate the occurrence of torsades de pointes such as dizziness, palpitations, or syncope.
Avatar m tn Rule out medication, as I am only taking metoprolol 25mg per day, and I have got off it for 2 weeks to see if my symptoms improved and my PVC's worsened. Getting off the metoprolol did not change anything. Does that sound familiar, or do you have any idea what would cause my symptoms? A recent sonogram showed good heart function with an EF of 65. Many thanks for your help and comments,,, Bob A.
Avatar f tn he often has nights where he is unable to sleep until he finally sleeps out of pure exhaustion. I am at my wits end and have run out of ideas and suggestions and fear this could create problems in our relationship because we are both exhausted. Any suggestions?
612551 tn?1450025775 Thanks you so much for posting your comment about the drug interactions between metoprolol and grapefruit! My fiance wanted to eat a grapefruit and I remembered a reaction between the two...thank goodness for your help!!
