I wish i had never been offered Methadone. I never noticed any side effects up untill about 2yrs ago. I have every known side effect,but the worst one of all at the moment is excessive sweating. My quality of life is zero. I sweat from head to toe most days all day. I sit with ice ,cold can's of juice sitting on my cheek's,my breasts and my wrists. Ive put on 4st in weight,and i know this wont be helping the situation. I don't know what to do anymore.
hi you really need to be careful with what you mix with methadone I googled gravol and came up with some interesting responces are you taking it to trip or for the tired narcotic feeling I do beleve after reading the effects you DONT need to be taking it on methadone could od any type of depressant can cause that you can tell the pharmacist to start steping you down on your methadone and work at getting off that the other I fould know where it was physically addictive so its just a mater of walk
It could be a side effect of the methadone or even an allergic type reaction to it. I remember when I took Macrobid (antibiotic) for a urinary infection, I had a high fever (102.3) every time I would take it, so I called my doctor's office and they told me to stop it immediately because I was having an allergic reaction to it. As it turned out, my father had had this same type of reaction to it a couple years before.
Hi - I'd like to ask you about the methadone if you don't mind. Im sorry you're having to go to an addiction clinic to get it and no - I dont think that's right. It makes you feel like you're taking it for the wrong reasons. That isn't fair to you.
I'm in the position of having my new doctor (paliative care), be pushing for me to use methadone. I understand the receptor reaction difference and have heard that some have good redults.
I take 100 mg a day and that is down from 220 mg 4 years ago. What kind of side effects do you have? I've never had any that I know of, not even the nods that some people get. Let me know ok?

The best way is to taper. A slow taper, down to the smallest amount until your on nothing. By a slow taper I mean go to 25 mg, for about 4 to 6 wks, then to 20, then reduce another 5 mg and so on. To go CT makes you very sick and I even went into convulsions once.
I would ask your doctor about the effects of methadone. I stopped Lortab cold turkey five days ago and had been taking it daily for at least three years. I did things backwards of course and only went to my doctor on day 4 of withdrawal b/c I was feeling so badly. She said that if I had come to her first, she would have recommended a slow tapering off of the pills so that my body would have had time to adjust.
My sister has admitted to being a methodone addict, she is going to councling and NA meetings she is also a severe alcoholic. Anyway talked to her a few times on the phone after we her family said this is it treatment or your on your own, she sounded great positive attitude ect. So I invite her to Christmas and she shows up all wierd and tell my mom her kids and me its the med she on to kick the m-done addictions.
Common side effects of methadone use include the following:
Constipation
Drowsiness
Skin Rash
Sweating
Water retention
Flushing
Changes in sex drive or erectile dysfunction
Dizziness (especially in the beginning of treatment and especially as a person in methadone maintenance treatment rises from a lying position)
Dry mouth
I've seen so many friends on methadone that are drowsy all the time, maybe it's the dosage, but the fact is there is a chance of these side effects.
I did it myself for many years also dident get into opiates till I was 30 then had a 16 1/2 yr run on them
the last 6 1/2 yrs was on methadone....after being on it I could never recommend it to anyone way to many side effect and the withdrawal is probably the worst one out there
your best bet is just to get off of what your on weather it be a C/T jump and be sick for about a week or a slow taper and be sick for a wile but not as sick...
Hi and Welcome,,If you post this on the Substance Abuse Addiction forum you will get more responses-this side is a little slower. Im gonna say this right off the bat-with Methadone the best way to get off that is to taper SLOWLY off of it-over months. The same goes with the lorazepam. These medications when stopped abruptly can cause viscious side effects. Have you set up aftercare or any outside support? Welcome to the forum!!
both are equally not healthy but working in a substance abuse field and running a program, people tend to find it easier to come off of suboxone. I would strongly suggest that whatever you choose, you get yourself into a rehab program and find other ways to stop using besides taking a med that is exactly like using.

If you do decide to go this way, I would get on the lowest dose of Methadone or Suboxone as possible. These are very powerful narcotics & are the toughest to kick. I would also add that if you are pre - diabetic or diabetic that an extended steady dose of Methadone may cause of worsen this condition. (This is something many clinics and prescribers won't necessarily mention or even know about.
no i am tapering off of 20mg, i only went on short term for a long time opiate addiction tp vicodin. started out for pain, the vicodin, but then turned into a full on addiction for many years. i was trying to teper off the vicodin, big problem was my hubby is addictied to, so we fed into each other, not a good scene, i needed a change, desperately, i am in outpatient therapy, i go to NA/AA, i go to weekly therepy, and chemical dependancy therapy....
I was on methadone for a year and if you take oxys while on it, you won't really feel the oxys, so it would kinda be pointless, plus the should drug test her at the methadone clinic. I wouldn't recommened methadone for anybody. Make sure you know all the side effects.
