methadone maintenance program

when someone is starting a methadone maintenance program, how long does it take or become stable? my boyfriend started about a month ago but has been changing mgs often. he says to stabilize himself.

Hello, I am looking for someone who is or has been in a methadone maintenance program while pregnant. I've clean and sober for awhile now but I'm still on methadone and now that I'm pregnant I can't get off of it. Just looking for some positive or useful knowledge. Thanks!

He went on methadone maintenance in July and it has taken him to his worst depths. He is still shooting drugs, is addicted to XANAX and anxiety pills. He will take a whole bottle at a time and is also drinking regularly. He has been hospitalized twice in the last month, picked up by police multiple times and has been near death at times. He is completely out of his mind.

ve went thru them more than a couple times if you know what i mean, My problem is the cravings, I never seem to last more than 2-3 month before I relapse, I need the Methadone or the Subutex as a maintenance program, not as a detox program know what i mean? Now, in regards to moving back to the states, well that's one of the question, I've been moving around my entire life, I already settled down here and i'm not moving bac k.

Methadone is a very strong opiate and you will have to come off that eventually too and the wd's are brutal. Are you doing anything about aftercare?

It sounds like a reasonable amount of time... In all honesty...i wouldnt make a date for sure..not something that can't be changed. Your not going to know for sure yourself until the day of. Just thinking about the methadone to suboxone transfer brings up a very bad memory of my transfer. I didn't know as much about maintenance drugs as i know now. I wish i knew then what i know now. I would never have this sick feeling in my stomach at the thought of my experience.

the reason i ask is because methadone is used as a maintenance program for someone who has been addicted to opiates.methadone is a opiate maintenance plan and keeps a level of opiates in your system. this allows people to to function and not always be chasing their next high. it is despensed at the clinic,and is legal. how much methadone is he currently on? has he been receivng any counseling and/or attending any support groups? working full time and exercising is wonderful.

I understand the fear of getting caught in the methadone trap. My philosophy regarding methadone maintenance is more pragmatic than most and recognises the fact that many people, tired of active addiction but not prepared to commit to complete abstinence, require a 3rd option to fill the void until an informed and rational choice can be made. I see you have come to a similar conclusion but i fear the way it is being implemented is flawed.

So I did and was monitored by the nurse who headed up the M.O.M. program at the clinic. (mothers on methadone). I delivered a healthy 7lb baby girl on November 6,2007! - I'm still taking the methadone for it works on my chronic pain,yet my doc and also the new doc at the clinic I go to (different from the clinic I went to at first) doesn't seem to think it does work. Although I'd like to detox down to about 90-85mg's first b4 being prescribed the pills.

Do you want to get off everything and use methadone or subs to avoid the acute withdrawal or are you going for a maintenance program? I used subs to get me off of methadone, so my opinion is biased, but I would use subs over methadone. I did a 20 day fast sub taper to avoid acute methadone withdrawal. Subs didn't get me high the way methadone did. Subs also prevent abuse, as they have a ceiling dose, meaning if you take more than 32 mg they don't have a stronger effect.

I am about to have surgery on my foot Tuesday and am scared nothing will work for pain as I am currently taking 60 milligrams of Methadone daily for maintenance. He was going to prescribe me Percocet but am also afraid he will not give me anything because I'm on a program. If he does, will Percocet even work? What would be a good dosage for me? Are you going to get the Subs under a Drs maintenance program? Subs are nothing to mess around with and just go from Dones to Subs. Methadone is a full opiate blocker & Subs partial opiate blocker, but both have there w/ds and they are both very synthetic and hard to w/ds from. You would be better to just taper the Dones and get into some kind of aftercare. Addiction goes way beyond after the removal of these stims. It will take a great Support system to stay clean. PS.

Please heavily research the Methadone/ Suboxone, before you enter a clinic. I made the mistake of tapering on Methadone and even though it was only a 21 day taper.. I notice the difference between that and quitting CT. I wish I would of CT instead. Its seems the Methadone hangs on longer and is harder to come off of. After you are stabilized on your first treatment, then you are given a maintenance dose and taper schedule in accordance to your quit program. Many people use subs to quit methadone, and much higher doses of it than the 160 you are taking. Contrary to other claims here, it is NOT dangerous as the suboxone kicks the other opiate off the opiate receptors in your system, rendering them useless, and they are expelled from your body. It is not additive to them.

I cant afford this life anymore and im never happy and i refuse to go back to IV or herion, So i called and made an appointment to get on the methadone program the 21 day taper, my question is if this will be painless ive searched and searched everyone is on MMT which im not into i dont want to get addicted to meth. I saw plenty of women raise physically healthy children. Unfortunately, the difficulties seemed to arise when there were other drugs being used during the pregnancy like alcohol, cocaine & Meth.

I researched it and decided, even though I have heard a LOT of negative things about the Methadone, I have also heard a LOT of positive things about it as well. I went there. Talked to the Administrator, Nurses, a couple of the Counselors and a bunch of the patients before making the decision to sign up.
