when someone is starting a methadone maintenance program, how long does it take or become stable? my boyfriend started about a month ago but has been changing mgs often. he says to stabilize himself.

I am a 37 year old female, with the exception of the 4 years spent at SCI Muncy due to my addiction, I have been on Methadone Maintenance since 1993. Are there any doctors who can prescribe my daily dose as opposed to me going to the clinic?

He went on methadone maintenance in July and it has taken him to his worst depths. He is still shooting drugs, is addicted to XANAX and anxiety pills. My husband has been on methadone maintenance for 14 years, so I can relate. He's trying to get off too and has gone from 120 to 100 mgs over the last 6 weeks or so. He's planning on a long taper. There was a couple (Feohmoon) on here that just went through a methadone taper and quit cold trukey at 7.5mgs. They were taking a lot of supplements. for addiction the clinics are used..whereas..sub can be prescribed by a doctor for addiction..no sub clinics that i know of...

No this question is suitable for this community and I would like to say that your reply to this person almost makes you look as if you have no clue on what Methadone maintenance is. The vast majority of people that go to Methadone clinics are indeed trying to quit opiates.

LAAM was originally offerred at methadone clinics to offer fewer doses and avoid daily clinic visits..... havent heard much about it since sub came on the scene...................

I understand the fear of getting caught in the methadone trap. My philosophy regarding methadone maintenance is more pragmatic than most and recognises the fact that many people, tired of active addiction but not prepared to commit to complete abstinence, require a 3rd option to fill the void until an informed and rational choice can be made. You should get into a methadone maintenance clinic asap. one dose of methadone is effective for both pain and withdrawl for 24-36 hours. You do not develope tolerance as with all other opiates.
