Methadone for oxycontin addiction

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone for oxycontin addiction

methadose

Avatar m tn well yes I do agree that it is trading one addiction for another, methadone or suboxone are much healthier for you as well as it being monitored by your doctor or a clinic. it is possible to quit an opiate addiction without things like methadone or suboxone but it is difficult and has a high failure rate. some people can do it and only do it once and stay clean for the rest of their lives while others like myself need the help of these medications to fully kick the habit.
268662 tn?1203171238 I am on 120mgs of methadone daily for a long and nasty heroin, dilaudid, and oxycontin addiction, Ive been cold turkey on methadone I was on suboxone 32mgs the highest daily dose for 9 mths and been thru hell and back, I would love to help in any way I can, let me know, best of luck to you, Christos
Avatar f tn Okay, So to sum this up quickly I was on oxycontin (up to 200-400mg a day) for 3 years, and I went on methadone. My Babys dad was also doin this with me...anyways he got clean and wanted me off the methadone, so I stopped it Cold turky, but was too ***** to go thru that ****, and started using pills again ( I even got him back into and he was like 6 weeks clean....*sigh*) anyways, I DONT WANT TO go thru the hell I KNOW im facing.
Avatar f tn I have been on prescribed oxycontin for 3 years. Before that it was prescribed methadone and loratab. I also have prscribed morphine. I have been taking half for two days and taking whatever is necessary to sleep. My question is can i be withdrawing from the oc's while taking morphine?
Avatar n tn t know about oxycontin and methadone but i know about addiction. I will pray for you and i hope your symptoms get better soon.
Avatar m tn also since the acute withdrawal symptoms last for a week would i be able to take methadone or suboxone for a week to get over the withdrawals, then stop the methadone/suboxone?? i was reallly curious about this as i heard that it helps with withdrawal.
Avatar n tn Methadone doesn't really "block" anything. It doesn't have a eupohria (that I've ever experienced). What I guess it does to help heroin addicts is stops the withdrawls and since they are taking an opiate already, they don't get "high" off the heroin because they've already got something in their system. (If that makes sense) There's a lot of info out there about it.
631581 tn?1224844661 Since it was considerably less expensive than oxycontin I agreed to try it, and as it was as effective for pain control as oxycontin was I have continued with methadone for about 5 years now, with vicodin es for breakthrough pain. I take 20mg x 3 per day Basically I have sufficient pain control to function at about an 80% normal ability. Several months ago I was diagnosed as having seriously depleted calcium.
797052 tn?1240511394 Im only taking like 25-30mg of Methadone a day for like 3-4 days!Im o n day 2 and feeling a lil crappy!By thurs or fri i will be going clod turkey,so now what your saying is im going to withdrawl from the Methadone also?????
Avatar f tn I was on Methadone for 3 years as a pain aid and subsitute for Oxycontin. Having been through withdrawals from both Oxy (initially w/o methadone) and methadone(actually switched back to Oxy) I have to say that the methadone withdrawal was far, far worse. It lasted for over 6 months where I felt lathargic and had no appetite. I would break out in gallons of sweat and felt horrible. That was even with a lot of oxycodone in me.
917008 tn?1251223979 She doesnt abuse her methadone at all, she has no desire, but I have seen her take excessive amounts of oxycontin in the past. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Why was she put on methadone? Is there a plan to get her off that really soon. If not, are you aware that methadone is a bear to get off of? Far harder than most opiates. What opiates was she on? How much was she taking per day and per dose?
Avatar m tn you IMO are NOT a good canadiate for methadone traetment! research methadone abd you will learn about the w/ds from this drug!! THEY ARE BAD!!! alot worse that your w/ds off 4 months of a small oxy habit! I can only hope that a doctor is honest enough to tell you NO you need to try other methods first..
1481418 tn?1287877914 Oh and another thing is that he was trying to explain something about his METHADONE refill slip I noticed it was saying 100mg for the METHADONE and 15mg for the grape juice but then he was saying it wasn't 100mg.....
Avatar n tn I was stunned to learn that the supposed cure/treatment for her addiction to the narcotic Oxycontin through the clinic is actually another narcotic - Methodone. She has now just crossed hour 24 of her withdrawal and I'm afraid if I don't say or do the right think she might opt to go back home and find someone to get her the Oxycontin. She's made the right decision to get off of it and has one full day under her belt, how can I encourage her to keep going with the process.
396099 tn?1216254986 Hi, I was on welbutrin 150XL 1xper-day,I have anziety/panic,also im on methadone,40mgs for oxycontin and percocet issues.I found the welbutrin was problematic as if may of helped with depression, but increased aggitation, anziety, etc.I stopped the welbutrin and felt way better 2-5 days latter. The methadone i have never found to cause ant adverse reactions.I no longer double doctor and buy oxycontin and worry about running out.In my opinion the benefits are worth the risk.
Avatar n tn In my humble opinion I would not even think about methadone for a 6 month period of use....and I would be hesitant about the sub - you are looking for an easy way when there really isnt one. Even if you would invest the time necessary with methadone you would still have to address withdrawals at some time. One researcher stated that as long as she had been involved with therapies, it didnt seem to make much difference whether one was withdrawing from 30mg meth or 3mg - it was still tough.
Avatar n tn I have been on narcotics for pain control for the past 9 years. Starting with vicodin for TMJ chronic pain then to percocet about 3 and 1/2 years ago. About a year after that started receiving morphine, fentenal patches, then methadone and now oxycontin to use with the percocet. I just had a 2 level neck fusion and have more back problems to be fixed. I am currently going thru 180 pec 7.5 /325 just about evey 2 weeks and then making it the other 2 weeks till the next doc appt.
Avatar n tn It is a opiate and a very strong one. You will have to taper off of the methadone unless you plan to stay on it for life. Many people would recommend tapering off the oxycontin. In a way you would be just switching one addiction for another. Don't get me wrong, methadone is a great tool for some people. If you decide to use it and then get off of it later, you will have intense withdrawals that will last longer than oxy withdrawals would last because of its long half life.

575947 tn?1220742187 Hi all As some of you will already know I am currently consuming a whopping dose of OxyContin (640mg/day) for the pain I experience on a daily basis. My doctor informed me recently that it is high time I was taken off OxyContin in favour of something somewhat different, coupled with pretty much constant supervision from the local pain clinic.
Avatar m tn I alsow as on suboxone treatment for my addcition for over 8 months, i am now on methadone and for me its worked a lot better, but for youre case I would try and just taper off completely and if you want a doctor to help you they def. can, i would even suggest it. Now as far as going onto suboxone i dont know if that is a good idea because taht is really strong and can be really hard to get off. and withdrawals can last for months.
Avatar f tn Everyone is different. Going cold turkey can be dangerous though. I'm on 200-260mg per day and I tried going cold turkey while using clonidine. I didn't even make it through 24 hours, and I was in a treatment facility. I'm 19 and have been on oxy for 2 years. One thing that I'm trying now, is a monitored methadone tapering program.
