Avatar m tn With all of this, they still want me to take 500mg of Metformin ER (at breakfast and dinner, so 1000mg per day). First, think another A1C may be in order a couple months after surgery to act as a validator with these normal BG numbers? Second, is it usual to have the ER version of Merformin initially perscribed? Isn't there a non-ER version that is more common?
225237 tn?1333138999 I recently started on metformin Er 500 mg at dinner. I have only taken it for for days.....I've been experiencing nausea, indigestion, frequent bowel movements. Has anyone else experienced this?? I'm so afraid of getting lactic acidosis!!!! The symptoms sound similar so how do you know which it is??!! Any help an advice would be appreciated!
225237 tn?1333138999 I need some advice, I'm on metformin er 500 mg and my sugar levels have been doing good but for the past feed days I just haven't felt right. I sometimes have a little shakiness feeling and my hand keeps getting a numbness feeling. Should I be worried its the meds??? I also suffer from anxiety and not sure if its taking over plus I'm an administrative assistant so I use my hands constantly. It touch for me to describe the not right feeling tho.....
Avatar n tn Correction to my comment; "For the long-acting form, metformin ER, the starting dose is metformin ER 500 mg once daily, and the maximum dosing is metformin ER 2000 mg once daily (or metformin ER 1000 mg twice daily).
225237 tn?1333138999 Ok I have been on metformin hcl ER 500 mg once at night. It has been almost two weeks since I started the medication.....for the past couple of days I noticed something in my bowel movement.....its in my morning stool it looks kinda orangish an kinda like a small carrot that has white stuff in the middle. I know this is totally disgusting but I need some advice! Could it be the metformin being released in my stool?? If so, does that mean I'm not getting my medication like I should??
Avatar n tn End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss. I'm 68 so maybe it's due to aging. Will ask my dr when I see him the end of April for an A1C test.
Avatar n tn MUST READ THIS!!! I was referred to a neurologist for my sudden arm weakness. She asked that in my next blood panel, check the B12 level, it should by in the 500 range. I did and it was 0.83! I started a daily high dose B12 supplement and 4 months later it was up to 1407. I backed off to an every-other-day B12 pill and no problems since. Previously I wasn't a vitamin taker. The real shocker? My episodes happened shortly after beginning METFORMIN for a diabetic condition.
Avatar f tn Metformin should be taken with foods to "help" prevent nausea. One date is not enough food. Google search using the standard search term "metformin vs xxxx", where xxx is your other medication, to see if there are contraindications between them to cause your loss of appetite and/or nausea. Certain fruits contain high amounts of sugar. Go here for a list. http://nutrition.about.com/od/askyournutritionist/f/hi_sugar.
Avatar f tn I've been on metformin for two months now. I was wondering if I'm suppose to take the pills the same time everyday or does it matter.
Avatar n tn Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
Avatar f tn NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Patients with type 2 diabetes who also have liver cirrhosis associated with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection fare significantly better when they’re treated with metformin, results of a French study indicate.
Avatar n tn In one study conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University, 24 obese PCOS women were given metformin or placebo. The 11 women who received the metformin experienced a reduction in insulin levels, which slowed the activity of an enzyme in the ovaries that stimulates excess production of testosterone. As a result, testosterone levels also dropped.(3) Glucophage appears to do the same for non-obese PCOS women, according to a study from the University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland.
806995 tn?1265823176 08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize. Your glucose levels seem pretty high - did your Dr.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if it's possible for metformin to cause severe food sensitivities and colitis. I am a 36 year old female with polycystic ovarian syndrome. After initiating metformin, many of the hormonal problems, including weight gain despite daily exercise and healthy eating habits, have greatly improved.
568322 tn?1370165440 The study is still ongoing. So there's no SVR data yet. Here's the link.... http://www.****.*** And the commentary from several docs..... Use of Metformin Plus Peginterferon alfa-2a/Ribavirin Among Treatment-Naive Genotype 1 HCV-Infected Patients With Insulin Resistance. Paul Martin, MD: Romero-Gomez and colleagues previously reported that insulin resistance is a predictor of nonresponse to therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C.
Avatar n tn I am new to this diagnosis, so I am still learning what it means and how to deal with it. Anyway, I started taking the 500 mg dose of Metformin twice a day about two months ago. I was told to come in for a fasting glucose test, so I did. When the test was done I had not had anything to eat for twelve hours and was famished. I also had a headache that didn't disappear until after I had eaten. To my surprise the blood glucose level came back as high -- 170.
Avatar f tn Anyway, I once read upon someone saying there is a newer brand called Metformin ER (extended release) that is easier on the stomach, so maybe ask your doc about switching u to that kind (I may need to do so also). I also sometimes feel very dizzy lately off and on. I just wish I could have normal periods and ovulation. . . Wish u success in trying to conceive. . .
1907238 tn?1340711313 hi everyone, ive been trying for a baby for 5 years now,my fertility nurse as put me on 500mg of metformin, she said i should get pregnant on these,as anyone concieved on metformin alone.
Avatar f tn Started on Metformin less than 1 week ago. I had to stop, it made me so weak, lethargic, stomach pain, and running to the bathroom every 20 minutes. This is it going to work. I can't believe I stayed at work. Anybody else have that reaction.
225237 tn?1333138999 Read the pharmaceutical paperwork that accompanied Metformin ER. Use Google for more information. Learn and understand the beginnings of side effects that ALL medications have. Learn and know what to do if they occur. Call your doctor when they do.
1888358 tn?1320969676 It is advised to take Metformin with food, usually in the middle or end of meal. Metformin ER version releases the drug more slowly and this usually eliminates the gastrointestinal problems. Ask your doctor if you could try a weeks supply. Discuss with your doctor an alternative medication if Metformin ER gastro problems continue. Not everyone can tolerate the same medication, even in different forms. I can't move/lift my lil toe/s unless I move/lift the others.
