Metformin xr vs metformin

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin xr vs metformin

glucophage

Avatar f tn According to my RE metformin (regular) should be taken around the same time everyday. If you are on Metformin XR (extended release) if really doesn't have a "time" frame. Since I don't really know your medical history, I would recomend you to speak to your doctor so that Metformin can give you the best results, and the results that you are working for.
878888 tn?1319634044 08 last test, But she put me on Metformin xr 500 for diabetes. I was wondering if anyone else takes this med along with levothyroxine and if it effects your thyroid management. I have gained 16 lbs back since January and want make sure I don't keep gaining. Ps. I work on my feet and walk about 9000 steps a day, plus have changed my diet and am counting carbs.

Towards the end of February 2017 I had ketones in my urine and was in ketosis. I was excercisin religiously and watching my carb intake.i was eating between 100 to 150gms of carbs. I was not on a ketogenic diet. After that visit i have been extremely ill. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Metformin 2000mg XR for 3 months and am just now getting side effects like metallic taste and gastro side effects. Same pharmacy, same Sando manufacturer. Is it normal to have side effects after a few months? I never had any side effects initially.
Avatar n tn My care is currently through my Family Doctor. My last two HA1C tests were 7.2 and 7.4, and creatinine was 1.1. I am taking Metformin XR, 1 gm twice a day, total of 2 grams (four 500 mg tablets). I take 1 gram in the morning and 1 at night. My blood sugars tend to run high in the morning and decrease during the day. I have no specific instructions whether to take at meals, with water, etc. Would it likely make any difference to take 1.5 grams at night and 0.
Avatar f tn While I was on it I lost weight my monthly cycle was regular. Some time later my symptoms re-occurred. I began taking Metformin XR (slow release) and suffered no side effects. However, my symptoms are getting worse and the medication is not helping. I am on a low fat low carb diet and get regular exercise daily. Nothing seems to work and my weight is ever increasing. It's something I need to get on top of as there is a strong history of diabetes in my family.
Avatar f tn Hello, I started taking Metformin in late July for high testosterone and an A1c of 5.8. (Endocrinologist said I had PCOS). I gradually built up to the full 2000 mg XR week by week. I didn't have many side effects from the medication at all. (Despite knowing several friends and a family member who had awful gastro issues). However, recently, I experienced the metallic taste and am suffering bad gastro side effects 3 months afterwards.
878888 tn?1319634044 but this last time my fasting level was 118 and my a1c came back 6.5. She said now I was diabetic and put me on Metformin 500 xr once a day and told me to lose weight. I forgot to mention she was concerned I gained 16 lbs within same time period (even with change of diet and exercise). I am also Hypothyroid and on Levothyroxine 115 mg. I have 2 questions, If I take Metformin with evening meal and thyroid in am is there still a chance for interaction?

Avatar n tn MUST READ THIS!!! I was referred to a neurologist for my sudden arm weakness. She asked that in my next blood panel, check the B12 level, it should by in the 500 range. I did and it was 0.83! I started a daily high dose B12 supplement and 4 months later it was up to 1407. I backed off to an every-other-day B12 pill and no problems since. Previously I wasn't a vitamin taker. The real shocker? My episodes happened shortly after beginning METFORMIN for a diabetic condition.
Avatar m tn If they have somethig inside it is a full pill undigested. Metformin XR has been reported to come out in your poo. Check tht out also if u are on Metformin XR. Be glad these are coming out and not remaining inside. I also had them just recently and I disinfected everythng and disected it, white mash potatoe substance inside, everyone says the same thing when directed. This is not a ghost pill, but if a shell only yes.
413852 tn?1317308712 I think the refill might be another brand, because the number changed to (571-but it is in a script bottle...company name not shown). It says metformin (Glucophage EQ) XR on the bottle, but the other said the same thing. The pills are different shape & size, but they put a sticky on the bt. that says it is the same, but I'm calling tomorrow to ask if it is the same brand. Yuck...no-no....DOUBLE YUCK! ;o) A friend of mines takes them for diabetes & hers are round (#397).
Avatar f tn Metformin should be taken with foods to "help" prevent nausea. One date is not enough food. Google search using the standard search term "metformin vs xxxx", where xxx is your other medication, to see if there are contraindications between them to cause your loss of appetite and/or nausea. Certain fruits contain high amounts of sugar. Go here for a list. http://nutrition.about.com/od/askyournutritionist/f/hi_sugar.
Avatar f tn NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Patients with type 2 diabetes who also have liver cirrhosis associated with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection fare significantly better when they’re treated with metformin, results of a French study indicate.
159063 tn?1247272817 hi everyone, my husband was recently diagnosed with Diabetes, he is 35 years old and has a long family history of it, his hemoglobin aic was 13.
3244521 tn?1346861134 6 mo. ago, I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes. There's no history of it in my family. I'm 23 and have 1 child. I'm very active I run 3-5 miles a day . I do have asthma controlled, by albuteral inhalers, and Qvar steriod inhalers, aswell as taking Singulair each day. I also have Dysthymic which I take Effexor XR 150mg each day. I'm 4'10" & 98 lbs. I'm a strict Vegetarian.
Avatar f tn Within the last 2 weeks I started tappering off of 75mg Effexor XR, stopped taking my birth control pills, started Metformin for insulin resistance and 150mg Wellbutrin XL. I am doing all of this because my husband and I are trying to have our first child. I suppose it would be best to add that I have taken Effexor XR on and off for the last 5 years, went up and down from 75 to 150. I have a love/hate relationship with this medication.
Avatar n tn In one study conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University, 24 obese PCOS women were given metformin or placebo. The 11 women who received the metformin experienced a reduction in insulin levels, which slowed the activity of an enzyme in the ovaries that stimulates excess production of testosterone. As a result, testosterone levels also dropped.(3) Glucophage appears to do the same for non-obese PCOS women, according to a study from the University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland.
806995 tn?1265823176 08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize. Your glucose levels seem pretty high - did your Dr.
568322 tn?1370165440 The study is still ongoing. So there's no SVR data yet. Here's the link.... http://www.****.*** And the commentary from several docs..... Use of Metformin Plus Peginterferon alfa-2a/Ribavirin Among Treatment-Naive Genotype 1 HCV-Infected Patients With Insulin Resistance. Paul Martin, MD: Romero-Gomez and colleagues previously reported that insulin resistance is a predictor of nonresponse to therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C.
Avatar n tn I am new to this diagnosis, so I am still learning what it means and how to deal with it. Anyway, I started taking the 500 mg dose of Metformin twice a day about two months ago. I was told to come in for a fasting glucose test, so I did. When the test was done I had not had anything to eat for twelve hours and was famished. I also had a headache that didn't disappear until after I had eaten. To my surprise the blood glucose level came back as high -- 170.
1360237 tn?1351816181 for it to be extended release it needs to say metformin ER or glucophage XR. It slow releases to ease the side effects and I only take it once a day (1500mg) because of that. If your taking it twice a day most likely you are not on the ER. it should be covered exactly the same as your metformin. Your insurance should have a formulary of covered or preferred drugs if you have a prescription card or just insurance card call them and ask if it's (femara) covered.
1068689 tn?1325827206 Thanks for the info. When i was at my dizziest time, my BG's were still over 220. I was also dizzy at 180 so am pretty sure it is not due to low BG's at this point. The side affects to Glimepiride also includes dizziness. I was hoping others on here may have taken this pill and had some experiences with it. Since this new change in meds is new I'm sure there are some issues I just have to deal with.
