Avatar f tn m not sure why you think Metformin only works on fat - in diabetes, the primary function of metformin is to stop the liver from over-producing glucose. "it only works on fat" - not sure what you mean.
Avatar f tn Yes. Certain diabetes complications can cause issues for men that contribute to infertility. For example, nerve damage from diabetes, multiple sclerosis or a spinal cord injury can lead to retrograde ejaculation – where the semen goes into the bladder. Since the semen never reaches the female reproductive system, infertility may be an issue. Erectile dysfunction, or the inability to achieve an erection, is another diabetes complication that can lead to fertility problems for men.

950954 tn?1271210887 I understand perfectly what you're going through....I'm currently only taking Metformin and prenatal pills only to assist me in finally conceiving our little miracle...Eventually, if the Metformin doesn't help, I'll have to start something new...What is Gonal F?
Avatar f tn Very recently I began noticing large white capsule looking things in my stool. I read other forums & I noticed a common thread that everyone was taking the medication Metformin. I'm also on Metformin extended release, do u think that could be the cause?
1306788 tn?1334752651 I luckily had an excellent doctor at the hospital where I have been going for my antenatal appointments. She kept me on Metformin in my first trimester, I am now in my second trimester, and she has been monitoring my sugars, and I don't seem to need it anymore, so she has taken me off it. But she said that has been a very recent study, which was very comprehensive which has shown that Metformin is completely safe to use throughout the whole pregnancy where needed.

13126824 tn?1428652469 I have to wake up and go downstairs and walk, due to cramps in my toes, where they curl upward and cramps on the top of my foot. Does this have anything to do with medication? I take Zoloft and Abilify for bipolar disorder. My sugar levels were heightened due to Abilify, but I am now taking Metfforman to level out my sugar level because Abilify has the ability to heighten sugar levels. I am not a diabetic. Does cholesterol have anything to do with this cramping?
Avatar m tn Uti's are common in women, but not so much in men. Only about 3% of all men worldwide get UTI's. You are part of that group. Hopefully antibiotics will clear it up and you'll not have to worry about it again. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320872.
Avatar f tn I take Metformin and Yasmin birth control pills. Both will help with the discharge and over time the Metformin can help to normalize your cycle. Are you of normal or over weight? I only ask this because when your overweight and you lose about 10% of your current body weight, the symptoms of PCOS dramically go lower. I lost about 60 lbs, stopped taking my BC and had 6 normal periods pill free.
Avatar n tn to much abdominal pain diarrhea only, after eating food, and sometime I see blood in my stool?
Avatar f tn [5] Women with PCOS who are insulin resistant are at high risk for the development of diabetes in pregnancy, and a possible role for metformin therapy may be the prevention of GDM. In a cohort of 33 women with PCOS taking metformin until delivery, GDM occurred in 3% compared with 23% in 39 women taking no medication.[4,6] However, given the lack of data from well-designed, prospective clinical trials, metformin is currently not indicated for the prevention of GDM.
415867 tn?1323365503 They were first given metformin and 19 of them resumed menstruating and showed indications of ovulation. But 10 required clomiphene (a fertility drug) in addition to metformin in order to show evidence of ovulation. Twenty women of the 48 (42%) became pregnant. However, 7 of the 20 miscarried.(8) REDUCED RISK OF MISCARRIAGE. Another aspect of PCOS-related infertility is the tendency for repeated miscarriages.
