Common Questions and Answers about Memory problems alcohol

memory

Avatar m tn ve done cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, and alcohol. My issue is that I feel like I have memory and cognitive issues due to my past drug use. I have since graduated from college and hold a computer related job. I do well in my job, but can't get over the past drug use and blaming it for my perceived inadequacies. I do brain training programs like mindfit, sudoku, read books, yoga, work out etc. I am literally trying everything I can to try and regain my sharp memory and cognitive skills.

Avatar m tn It sounds like you may be having some work problems. That can cause stress and the memory problems too.
Avatar f tn I have the exact problem. I have ADHD. I dont remember a lot before the age of 13, from then I had to mostly relearn everything I had learned in my younger years. Now I find it hard to remember anything I read, listen to, or try and study. I feel lost and confused since I am only 19 with this type of problem.
Avatar n tn One is if you have hypothyroid or Hashimoto's disease, which both mean your thyroid gland is not producing enough hormone, and thus you can get that collection of problems. So, visiting an endocrinologist and getting your thyroid tested is how to find out if it's your thyroid doing all this to you. Two is if you are taking some sort of medication that is giving you these as side effects, so you would review any drug you're on and see if you need to have it changed.
676143 tn?1312941771 So does anyone else have problems with memory lately? I feel like the baby is sucking my brain away. I keep forgetting so many little things. Luckily, it hasn't gotten me in to too much trouble yet - but one of these days I am going to forget something really important!
1260255 tn?1288654564 I've read people mentioning memory problems, but have not seen one type of memory problem discussed. Do any of you have problems where your memory does not store information? There are numerous occasions when I have absolutely no recall of conversations. This happened several weeks ago when my son called me at work. He told me that the grill was corroded at the bottom. I have no recall of this whatsoever, but his girlfriend was sitting next to him and vouches for him.
Avatar f tn I have FM for over 12 years now, I've read numerous books, I belong to the National Fibromyalgia Network, The Fibromyalgia Association, and follow the latest research on many aspects of FM. These include, medical and pharmaceutical research. There is NO evidence that people with FM have brains that age faster. There is a neurological aspect to FM that can affect our brains. Our neurotransmitters may not be firing right to put it simply.
Avatar f tn Not that I would wish any one on this post, especially you Dave, to have memory problems, but at least I feel more assured that it is normal. Thanks for responding.
Avatar m tn And I feel like I have forgotten everything I spent the past 3-4 years paying to learn ! I was an honours student in undergrad and never had memory problems before. I am also having huge problems concentrating on what people are saying to me. It's like I am not listening no matter how hard I try to listen my brain wanders off into zombie land. And I am only 29. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to regain one's memory and concentration ?
Avatar m tn I will be praying for your healing - and for the return of your memory. As GoPens66 mentioned - you're in an alcohol/substance related group - memory loss can be associated with drinking. It can be associated with many other things, too - from different medications, mental or cognitive health conditions, and even sometimes stress.
Avatar m tn Why would you do this to yourself? You must have been so sloppy drunk that everyone just saw it as sad. It's not cool to be that person. You easily could not be here right now. It's time for a break or maybe even time to quit. It's likely that you are very dehydrated. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water to flush the toxins from your body, Gatorade is best for replacing the electrolytes. You will be fine. Think of it as getting lucky this time.
Avatar f tn Once upon a time consuming alcohol often resulted in severe balance problems, drastically altered gait and frequent memory loss.
Avatar f tn When those receptors shutdown, short term memory fails to become (transition into) long term memory. This happens because of the level of alcohol in Your blood. If You continue to drink this will happen again, sooner and more often, with time. Alcoholism IS progressive - and so is the damage. This I know is true. Alcoholics are the last to realize they have a problem with alcohol. Alcoholics are the last to realize they are alcoholics. This too, I know is true.
Avatar m tn Anxiety and depression go hand in hand usually. If you have problems with depression, and probably anxiety as well, then alcohol is the worst possible thing to take. People with anxiety and depression frequently find relief from alcohol short term but soon find themselves in a deeper hole then they started out in. The 'sadness and memory loss' are probably the effects of drinking, not the other way around.
Avatar m tn Your nerves, muscles, heart, and brain need thiamine to work normally. Lack of thiamine can cause problems with short-term memory, eye movement, walking, cramps, numbness, tingling, and weakness in your legs and hands. Drinking too much alcohol also may be part of what causes high blood pressure and strokes. Alcohol can lead to heart muscle disease or heart failure.
Avatar f tn Based on clinical research studies, between 22% to 29% of individuals with dementia were found to be heavy drinkers or alcoholics and 9% to 23% of elderly alcoholics in alcoholism treatment were found to also have dementia. An estimated 1.1 to 2.3 million older Americans have problems with alcohol. Medical researchers are still grappling with how to more fully define the association between heavy alcohol use and symptoms of dementia.
Avatar m tn Recently, on Saturday night I was drinking very very strong beer, (9% alc) and had a few shots. I remember most of the night, except the time I usually have problems with, how I arrived home. I fear that I might have been taken advantage of (eventhough I am a straight male) by another male. I will freely admit that I have irrational OCD problems/thoughts and disease phobias.
