Common Questions and Answers about Memantine for ocd

Avatar f tn My wife was recently prescribed Memantine for headaches. She took 5mg nightly for 4 days and during that time she still had a headache, but no side effects. On the 5th day the headaches stopped, but now she's constantly nauseous and woozy. This has been going on for 4 days. Is this just a matter of her body adjusting to the drug?
Avatar m tn There is someone on this forum, or the depression forum, who was in a clinical trial with a medication targeting glutamate receptors for bipolar disease and claims to have been cured by it. You can find her posts in the archives, and she should be a good source for you. However, glutamate is considered largely for depression because it is stimulating to the brain, not calming.
Avatar m tn I started taking bupropion at the same itme, and suspect the bupropion may have interfered with the initial trial of gabapentin. I need the bupropion for the anxiety associated with Nystagmus, but I know it causes blurred vision and convergence problems. Should I even bother to try memantine? Thanks.
Avatar m tn As you have stated, there is no cure for OCD,if there was there would be alot of happy people who would be able to live happy--normal lives. There are good medications--CBT--Exposure therapy & the OCD workbook. The combination of all these treatments can make OCD easier to deal with.
1321487 tn?1385294679 try out memantine so get a better memory, try prednisone for weakness but don't overdo it.
Avatar m tn thank you my good firend,i'm trying to let OCD go first,if i couldn't forget it at 6mos,so finally test for me is 6mos.i believe cdc's 6mos window period is conclusive, although almost docs recommended 3mos window period.i know we are negative, just OCD.
Avatar f tn What are the best medications for OCD, and has anyone had success with prozac for OCD?
Avatar f tn i am on zoloft 75mg and have been breaking out in a rash since i started taking it in april but am just now realizing it could be the zoloft. does anyone have any experiance with this or can recommend another medicine that may work for my ocd and anxiety. my ocd is the scary thoughts and it was all caused after a major surgery i went through. it is getting better but i still have some issues.
Avatar f tn t think that it is prescribed as much for OCD as the SSRIs but it does seem to work for me. I have not gained a bunch of weight and it doesn't kill a person's sex drive like the others do. Maybe worth a discussion with your prescribing doctor.
286686 tn?1416012340 I was curious to know if anyone here is resistant to medication for OCD. He is on 300mg of Anafranil since December and started Luvox at the end of December and doctor has been increasing the luvox, so he is now on 300mg of luvox as of two days ago. This is the strange part.....
Avatar n tn I was also told to eat turkey for L Tryptophan. Do you think this is an appropiate treatment for ocd? I had taken an SSRI called Prozac before but I was not able to tolerate it as they used to cause some pressure in my head so my doctor had told me to stop taking the pills. Does Cognitive Behavioral Therapy help ?
Avatar m tn The CBT is absolutely key to helping him and down the road, because I think he is way too young for medication, there are medications out there that help treat OCD very well. I have had OCD since I was a teenager. I went to college, got married, had children, and have a very successful job. So yes, with the right help he will turn out just fine. He is very lucky to have you and your wife as his parents.
Avatar n tn Have you ever contacted a specialist for ocd or are you going to a regular therapist? They deal with therapy that involves exposure and response techniques that help change the irrational ways of thinking. Ive read a lot into this and I think it could be really helpful if you find somoene that really knows what they are doing who is a specialist in this area not just a regualar therapist. They would probably know more about medicines and which ones are the best for ocd too.
Avatar f tn has anyone expierienced affective treatment for ocd that lasts? something that can meke you feel normal again and not like your life is ending? like all you can do is harp on the past and worry about the future. i need to get back to the present. i need to just be a seventeen year old. i need to stop obsessing. any advice?
Avatar n tn Thanks. Yep back to the OCD drawing board. But thanks. The problem is it is so -/;(@£& irrational. I kept my clothes on! My focus has been this 2-3 day old burn-reassurance helps.
Avatar f tn Straight off the press from yesterday is published yet again another article stating the same facts, Straight people fee uncomfortable believing they are gay, it is just OCD, it is treatable, blah, blah, blah,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,same as all articles I have been sharing. Have a good day. http://gma.yahoo.com/homosexual-ocd-straight-men-fear-gay-112105344--abc-news-health.
Avatar m tn I think if this combination is working for you, then continue it. What you have to realize though is that OCD is for life. We will always have it but we can live very well with managed OCD. If you decide to stop your regimen and you have problems, it would be good to have some cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to fall back on.
Avatar n tn i also think that the result is going to be negative but i cant control my thoughts because of OCD...thank you again for your answer...sincerely yours...
Avatar n tn He should see a therapist. (everybody should see a therapist imo) If your son is honest, the professional will most likely be able to give a diagnosis of ocd if he has it. Dont convince yourself or your son that he has ocd (or anything wrong with him at all).
Avatar m tn A Personalized Recovery Program for Living with Uncertainty. Get the OCD Workbook by Bruce Hyman and Cherry Pedrick, and follow the exercises. Above all, don't give up hope. I have seen many seriously disabled folks learn to manage their symptoms and continue with life, while learning to live with OCD.
Avatar f tn It stuck for a longtime. I love women and everything about them. Never did I dream or feel anything about men. The OCD got worse and drove me nuts. I know I'm straight and always was. I guess the mind plays trucks on us when we get so stressed out. My doctor recently put me on lexapro and a anxiety pill. Working great but sometimes I have to reassure myself by reading articles that this is normal and it will pass with time.
Avatar n tn OK im new here and hoping that someone can help me, im 19 and ive had OCD for 3 yrs now. i dont know why it started all i know is that is in my family. i dont know much about OCD only things i have researched on the net. i have a phobia of hiv/aids which i think has been brought on by OCD because i never used 2 be scared of it, im in constant fear of blood and people throwing it at me on the street and also people always having blood on them.
Avatar f tn *** and they have some stuff I am going to try out and its cheep! there are also REAL explinations for WHY we have OCD. (the doctors know nothing) hope this give every one some hope!
Avatar f tn I have to go for blood work and I am asking if I should have the lab make special accommodations for me or if I need to do it like everyone else and have the anxiety so I can expose myself to my fear. I would usually call the lab, ask to be first patient and also ask for everything in brand new packaging alcohol wipe and butterfly needle to be taken out of package in front of me.
Avatar f tn I understand your phobia. I have lots of ocd phobias... Mostly cancer and chemical related but I have had HIV phobias as well. I think the HIV one is very common from looking at posts on this site. It seems like every other one is an HIV fear. I used to work in a lab that analyzed blood samples and I pricked myself once with a syringe that had been used on unscreened blood. I was tested and I'm fine.
