Avatar f tn My wife was recently prescribed Memantine for headaches. She took 5mg nightly for 4 days and during that time she still had a headache, but no side effects. On the 5th day the headaches stopped, but now she's constantly nauseous and woozy. This has been going on for 4 days. Is this just a matter of her body adjusting to the drug?
Avatar m tn I need the bupropion for the anxiety associated with Nystagmus, but I know it causes blurred vision and convergence problems. Should I even bother to try memantine? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Hey everyone, I have tried many different ocd drug therapies, but have yet to try a glutamate modulating therapy such as Memantine (Namenda), Riluzole (Rilutek), N-acetyl cysteine, or amantadine. If anyone has information on or experience with any of the above medications, would you please share that with me? I am desperate. Thanks so much.
1321487 tn?1385294679 try out memantine so get a better memory, try prednisone for weakness but don't overdo it.
Avatar n tn Do any of you know of a well documented scientific study on vaginal-penile (and viceversa of course) transmission mechanism to share with me? That has been wandering my mind and I wanted to get a little educated on it. Please, if any, then paste the URL. Thank ya'll!
Avatar f tn He explained that the mechanism of swaloowing is a very complex sequences of involuntary actions initiated by a voluntary one. It seems that the sequence occasionally gets off track and you need to "reboot" the system. If the inability to swallow persists for a long time, then it is likely abnormal, but the occasional inability to swallow is surprisely common and not to be worried over.
Avatar m tn this thread actually brought me to the idea of trying out NMDA (Glutamate) Antagonist Memantine and it really improves my ability to perform tasks by at least 50%! Why not only stay away from Gluten but decrease the overall glutamate amount binding to CNS sites? it works!

Avatar f tn Hey Kelly, nice to see you, though the reason su_cks! I've not heard of anyone or remember lol seeing it mentioned here, so i did a quick search and drugs .com states...... "In a trial testing the use of memantine (the active ingredient contained in Namenda XR) in MS patients with cognitive impairment, nine out of nineteen patients reported a worsening of their neurologic symptoms that deteriorated their quality of life.
Avatar f tn It concerns me because her speech is minimal (we have a speech therapist on board now). Is this a normal coping mechanism? She also does this when dad plays video games, and when he turns it off, she'll open her eyes and uncovers her ears again. Once again is this normal?
Avatar m tn In this paper, we demonstrate important parts of this mechanism. Initially, HIV-induced impairment of proliferation was shown to be an active process involving induction of protein tyrosine kinases in both CD4 and CD8 T cells. Furthermore, the impairment of cell proliferation was demonstrated to be linked to induction of the inhibitory protein kinase A (PKA) pathway by HIV proteins.
514649 tn?1231454520 Consider the use of a medication called memantine (Namenda) which you should ask your neurologist about for oscillopsia (if that is what is diagnosed).
Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of CampralĀ® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.
Avatar f tn Within our subconscious mind we retain a primitive mechanism to both remember stress, and control our ability to sleep. When we are in balance we send the appropriate instruction to our subconscious, and the sleep mechanism simply takes over. However when this balance is disturbed the result is sleeplessness. The mechanism which controls sleep is both "reactive" to our desire to sleep and "responsive" to our body's need for sleep.
Avatar m tn Oyakawa I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur? thanks so much.
Avatar f tn There is no chance of. pregnancy. If you read the mechanism of conception and longevity of sperms outside the body you will realize that there is no chance of conception.
Avatar f tn Does this mean that dementia is developed due to alcohol abuse? If, so how chronic use of alcohol affect one's cognitive ability and/or impair SNS??? What is the mechanism of this particular type of dementia?? Could anyone please help with my question?
Avatar n tn It is known that the protection from infection in vaccinated persons results not only from the antibody titer, but also quite effectively from the presence of a class 2 T cell response that is extremely sensitive and tends to block access of the virions from the tissue level to the blood stream. This mechanism persists even after AB titers fall below the official threshold. The same mechanism works in HCV contacts.
Avatar m tn Theories of water loss and/or heat loss of the lining of the airways have been proposed as the mechanism of EIB, but recent research suggests that that the mechanism may be more complex than that. For some people, it is the only clinical manifestation of their asthma. The "bronchitis" you get once or twice a year, in truth, may be asthma flare-ups and likely preventable. And, chronic/recurrent rhinitis/sinusitis is commonly associated with asthma.
Avatar f tn , duloxetine) has a combination mechanism of action involving serotonin and norepinephrine making it useful in depression and also neuropathic pain. When a peripheral nerve is injured there is an increase in pain sensitive fibers leading to increase pain recognition. This causes a change in central (i.e., brain/spinal cord) recognition of pain. One major neurotransmitter involved in this is norepinephrine. Cymbalta works to modulate this change.
Avatar m tn Everybody has some thyroid antibodies and the antibodies are the normal mechanism to control excessive thyroid hormone levels. An elevated TSH indicates that the thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormone. Logic suggests that a elevated TSH would be contrary to a Hashimoto's response. If the TSH is elevated the thyroid hormone level is low, there should be no increase of thyroid antibodies. I am the patient mentioned above.
Avatar f tn My boyfriend suffers from this also Conversionn A defense mechanism, operating unconsciously, by which intrapsychic conflicts that would otherwise give rise to anxiety are instead given symbolic external expression. The repressed ideas or impulses, and the psychological defenses against them, are converted into a variety of somatic symptoms. These may include such symptoms as paralysis, pain, or loss of sensory function.
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
Avatar n tn Hello, The exact mechanism of what causes clubbing remains unclear till date. Many mechanisms have been proposed but none have gained complete acceptance. However ,many researchers agree that the common factor in most types of clubbing is distal digital vasodilation, which results in increased blood flow to the distal portion of the digits.
