Medroxyprogesterone to induce menses

Common Questions and Answers about Medroxyprogesterone to induce menses

depo-provera

Avatar n tn Did they give you a blood HCG before they prescribed the medicine? My experience, I was given medroxyprogesterone to induce my period as well, and I didn't start bleeding until about 2-3 days after finishing the 10 days. However, this is my third time taking it, and I actually started bleeding about 8 days into it this time. So it may differ! It probably wouldn't hurt just to give your doctor a call though, and just tell them it hasn't worked and you feel nauseated.
Avatar f tn Oh forgot to mention I am also medroxyprogesterone to induce my period. After my last pill I started to spot 3 days later, but not a regular period until 5-6 days later.
Avatar n tn t had period since Sept 28 so my Dr put me on medroxyprogesterone 10 days 10mg, but my period came down on day 4. should i continue to finish medroxyprogesterone so should i take metformin???
Avatar f tn As soon as the prolactin level is normal again, my menses should come back and ovulation will occur. just wanted to know roughly how long this would take whilst taking norprolac?
Avatar m tn You are a very young man and have normal instincts. You real problem is that you need a girlfriend and don't have one. Wouldn't it be better to find a lover than to take medications?
Avatar f tn ve then decided to stop actively trying to conceive for now, but recently I am starting to think about trying again. Will continuing to take medroxyprogesterone help or hurt my chances of getting pregnant? Is there something else more effective that will regulate my periods without preventing pregnancy? More information is that I was on birth control for about 8 years and have been taking medroxyprogesterone for about a year now. I take 2 pills per day for the first 15 days of every month.
777396 tn?1329787551 She is having me do some tests, but says that I more than likely have PCOS. She wants me to take Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to get my periods regulated. I first wanted to know about side effects. Second I was reading that this particular drug is not recommended as it could cause some sort of pregnancy issue. Wasn't sure about if that was fact or myth. Any input is appreciated.
3109572 tn?1341619613 I told them about my situation and they did blood tests to see if i had elevated prolactin levels (in reference to the endocrine problems suggested above) which were normal, and they also did a pap smear which was normal. They prescribed provera which is supposed to induce ovulation and bleeding which I will start tomorrow I delayed taking it because I wanted to give myself a chance to ovulate on my own naturallly...I didnt lol. The generic name for it is Medroxyprogesterone.
Avatar f tn I have pcos and I dont get my period unless I am on some type of medication. My doctor started me in medroxyprogesterone to induce my period then clomid for ovulation today is my last day on it. Just wondering how many women actually get pregnant from this and how long it took. Im pretty new to all this so any helpful insight would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn Personal Experience I do not ovulate on my own so I need pills to induce my menses and pills to ovulate. Good Luck! Keep me updated God bless and I hope the OBGYN helps you with your situation.
Avatar m tn My OB prescribed me Medroxyprogesterone and advised me to take it if I went longer than 3 months without a period. I took my first course of the meds in early April of 2016 and got my period right after my last dose. Had a period in May with no help, missed June and July so I Started my Medroxyprogesterone again in August and started my period later that same month. Missed September, but as of October and without needing the medroxyprogesterone I have been getting my period every month.
Avatar f tn I have PCOS so the chances of me being pregnant right now without the Clomid Metformin and Medroxyprogesterone is slim to none as I haven't had a cycle since July of Last year. Anyway I've posted before about our ventures in TTCing and the ups and downs of everything and although I've been taking metformin to help with the PCOS, I still didn't have a period and it was fine because we weren't ready to try again.
Avatar n tn They are putting me on this to induce a period. Has anyone ever taken this before? How long does it take for your period to come? I have six pills one per day. Also, any successful pregnancies soon after this drug was taken? Thanks!
1187113 tn?1320691496 The reason most doctors give you progestins or progesterone to induce a menses is to make sure you have not recently ovulated or become pregnant. If you just ovulated, the progestins will usually not induce a menses until 14 days after ovulation. This protects you from inducing an ovulation on top of an ovulation or disrupting an ovulation and potential pregnancy with unneeded clomiphene.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone 10mg for 3 months because I was starting to bleed daily sometimes with clots sometimes just old spotting (brown discharge)and the medicine stopped the bleeding right away, in fact the very next day. I'm worried because I haven't had a regular menstrual cycle in almost 2 months.

1906894 tn?1321873567 Hi ladies, I just wanted to add to this thread here, my practicioner had also perscribed me to take medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to help regulate my cycle, and amongst it doing its job I am also a 34b and have also noticed breast tenderness and swelling with it but i am assuming it was to be expected after my practicioner explained the effects of the drug to me.

Avatar f tn I was bleeding for 3 months straight and my obgyn put me on medroxyprogesterone to make it stop. I started it the day before I was predicted to ovulated. I have been off it over a week and was told when I stopped I should spot and then my period should come normally. I have been having unprotected sex and I am 3 days late on my period. I have no clue what is going on. My questions is has anyone taken this and had this problem?
Avatar f tn Hi I'm 27 years ago and I have a 7 year old daughter. Me and my fiance have been ttc for 3+ years now. I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone 10mg for 10 days. I started taking this medicine on the first of March and had a regular cycle on the 19. I didn't take the medicine in April due to me being on antibiotics. I didn't have a period in April and haven't had one so far in May. I'm usually regular with my cycles being off a few days.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe you anything to induce a period? I actually have to take Provera (medroxyprogesterone is another name for it) every month to induce a period or I won't get mine. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn This is a type of birth control, you need to get the shot every three months if you were trying to prevent a pregnancy. There is a delay in returning to fertility that may be between 3 and 18 months depending on the woman. It also stops menstrual cycles in a lot of women.
Avatar f tn ( which is about a year since my last period) So my doctor gave me provera (medroxyprogesterone) to take for 10 days to induce a period. I finally got my period a week later and I am on my 6th day now. I called n asked a nurse at my dr office 2 see if i could count spotting as CD 1 & she said it wouldnt matter if i counted it as day 1 or the day a blood red period came as cd1 so I decided to go w/ counting the day a blood red period came as cd1 so in saying that..
Avatar m tn Hi, my wife has been taking Medroxyprogesterone(10mg 3xday) for the past 7days, and has(in the past four days)switched to Sprintec birth control pills as ordered by her Doctor. Is it safe for us to have sex now(as far as pregnancy goes)?
Avatar f tn I am on Medroxyprogesterone. & i had un protected sex then i took a plan B pill & i am not 2days late with my perios.
706727 tn?1229093232 I was aslo on medroxyprogesterone last summer due to PCOS and it gave me a flow for 2 weeks ( My menstrual usually last 5 days) and also had bad cramping. She gave it to me to take 5 days out of every month but after the first time, I did not take it again. I would go to the doctor.
Avatar f tn I am not sure about the answer to this but I think you should definitely talk to your doctor about the possibilities. Good luck on trying to conceive!
