Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt rebound

maxalt

Avatar n tn I have a friend that has dealt with debilitating migraines all of her life and she swears that the prescription drug Maxalt is the only thing that is effective for her and she has tried many medications including imitrex. She told me they are dissolvable tablets such that if you get sick and vomit, you won't vomit up the medication. I will get a migraine headache every once in a blue moon and I take the regular OTC stuff for it.
Avatar f tn It is an excellent pain pill, but if you take it more than two times in a week, you risk severe rebound migraines. That's the only reason I can think of besides it being a narcotic. But you probably need a narcotic, so I agree to look for a neurologist who specializes in headaches. These days, regular doctors are being monitored and penalized for prescribing pain pills. That's probably the real reason.
1334481 tn?1276697078 Dear NM, Congratulation on achieving your degree. The Maxalt can cause what is called a rebound headache/migraine from overuse. I've not heard of being immune to it. Here are a couple of thoughts that might help you: 1) You and your Doctor may need to consider upping the dosage of topomax. My wife increased her dosage from 50mg to 100mg. At the 50mg dose we did notice a decrease in total number of monthly migraines after discounting for weather from the 25mg dose.
655875 tn?1295695107 My friend had called me and I told her that I was too sick to talk and that I had run out of my Maxalt. My friend is a life saver! When she got off of work, she picked up my Maxalt and brought it to me. She also brought me some hot dogs, chips and pop because I had nothing to eat in the house. Hubby left on Wednsday and took the kids up to the cabin, so I've been here alone. I thought that was extremely nice of my friend to go and do that for me.
Avatar f tn I am addicted to Hydrocodone and have been "off and on" for about 3 years. Sometimes I go through periods of not taking them, or taking very little. But in the last few months I've been going on binges. I'd take 3-4 5/500s a day at the most. I am now at the end of one of those binges. I managed to get off them a few months ago and was miserable physically for a good three weeks. Now I want to taper off and STOP.
Avatar f tn --- Now about the Panafren Plus as an acute migraine treatment... the thing I would be more concerned about is rebound headaches since it contains ibuprofen. Triptans are currently the first-line of treatment for migraine headaches as opposed to NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, as ibuprofen can cause rebound migraine headaches. So I usually suggest that if possible, people avoid over-the-counter medications and stick with migraine medications such as triptans.
1102283 tn?1257817472 I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs. Although, everyone is different and all of the triptans on the market have been proven effective in clinical trials, so please discuss with the doctor in the clinic which triptan would be the most appropriate in your situation. Although, if you want to go in suggesting something...
Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
591470 tn?1218975186 what would you suggest for pain rx for intractable chronic migraines? I have tried stadol, fiorinol, migranal, and triptan? Oxycodone, hydrocodone provide no releive . DHE-45 only gives partial releif. Stadol NS made me rebound even worse. Benzodiazpans didn't even knock me out for migraine releif withthe stadol, Baclofen is not helping.
Avatar f tn If you do the brain cells get used to them and then you get rebound headache. Tylenol will give you rebound headache as well. I don't take Tylenol at all anymore for that reason.
Avatar f tn He is increasing my Topamax by one pill a week for 4 weeks so by the end of those 4 weeks I will be takinng 4 pills a day. No relief. He says they are rebound headaches. I doubt this. So he has one more week to figure this out because I am at the end of my rope. I need some advice PLEASE!
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
Avatar f tn Please help me with my mystery diagnosis...I am ready to pitch a tent and live at the ER!! 32yo female, 120lbs, 5'3" Normally active & healthy (until this past month) Phoenix, AZ I have lived with mild to moderate headaches 4-5 days per week for the past several years. Pain managed by Advil. However, about a month ago, I started having excruciating, debilitating headaches, and stopped taking Advil because I was taking 600-800mg a day to get some relief.
573622 tn?1217279489 I am now on depakote and maxalt for migraines and nothing completely gets rid of them. A friend is really into the holistic approach and suggested crystallized ginger. I recently tried it and it seems to be working. I am giving it more time but hope it continues.
937140 tn?1246013288 I have frequent migraines and I do take Maxalt and fiornail. They both work well for my headaches. The Maxalt is very expensive, even with medical insurance. I've heard that magnesium will help with the headaches as well, but be sure to check with your doctor first.
5848391 tn?1380728642 If you keep taking any pain reliever it just causes rebound migraines. If it is the worst migraine that you can imagine, go to the ER. It could be a stroke. That's how my stroke started. It went on for 3 weeks before it fully erupted. See a doctor.
Avatar n tn ve been getting the headaches/migraines about once every two weeks. I take maxalt and fiorinal and the maxalt works much better. The fiorinal does not make a huge difference, so I rarely take it.
Avatar f tn The pins and needles is common for Topamax. You may eventually go to 100mg if it is helpful. Most medications can cause rebound headaches. If your migraines are only occassional, ask your Neurologist if you can try Maxalt MLT 10mg. It's fast acting but you will need to observe a strict protocol for usage to prevent rebound headaches. Have you been able to ID your triggers?
Avatar m tn Have you looked into Maxalt. I just got out of recovery and Maxalt was given to a lot of the guys who were having migraines due to w/ds. It was also prescribed as long term treatment for those whos migraines didn't go away. I don't know much about it as I have never taken it but I am still in contact with some of the guys from recovery and they seem to get a lot of relief from it. I do know it is expensive without insurance.
Avatar m tn She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up. Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc. Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt? I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar n tn I had Superventricular Tachicardia. My heart would race, I would hyperventilate, then most of the time I would passout. I had heart surgery when I was 15 to correct this irregular heartbeat. Luckily, it was successful. When I was 16, I had my first baby boy. After having him, I started getting migraines. The first one I ever had lasted over 48 hours. I had to get a shot to get rid of it. Since then, I've had too many to count.
Avatar f tn ve had a headache that put me in bed every week, usually Sunday through Wednesday. I have taken Norontan and Amitryptiline; both had negative affects. Maxalt does me no good. Feverfew and other herbs like that were not recommended for grown women. I take nettle tea. Alieve seems to be the only drug that helps. My doctor said that atmosphere can have a lot to do with it--and advised me to relocate. Is there anything else that works which I could take?
768044 tn?1294223436 In the comments below, let us know if your triptan is a tablet, an orally disintegrating tablet, a nasal spray or an injection, especially if the triptan is Imitrex, Zomig or Maxalt (as these medications come in multiple delivery methods). Feel free to discuss how satisfied you are with your current triptan medication and if you have any specific complaints, compliments or comments about the treatment.
Avatar n tn They have been increasing in quantity and severity until about a year and a half ago I had to stop working completely. I am on a combination of darvacet, tramadol, topomax and maxalt. The combination leaves me in bed about 18 hours a day. I have had two MRIs. One with contrast and one without. Neither shows any good reason for my pain. The headache never goes away and I have no idea what makes it hit so hard every few days (room blacked out and crawling to the bathroom). Am I the only one.
