Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt headaches

maxalt

Avatar n tn About a year later I began to have periodic headaches. They have been increasing in quantity and severity until about a year and a half ago I had to stop working completely. I am on a combination of darvacet, tramadol, topomax and maxalt. The combination leaves me in bed about 18 hours a day. I have had two MRIs. One with contrast and one without. Neither shows any good reason for my pain.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn My first 2pregnacys they also gave me vicoden for when migranes were unbearable. This pregnancy my Dr told me I could also take maxalt( I was told w my first 2 that maxalt was not safe AT ALL) after doing some research I decided against maxalt but am continuing firocet.
655875 tn?1295695107 When I take the Maxalt, it will stop the migraine an instant about an hour after taking the medicine. The maxalt has been a miracle drug for my headaches and I normally only have to take one in a day. This is one of the very few medicines that my body will tolerate without any problems. The Maxalt must still be working because I'm still very sick to my stomach. I bet I'd still have the migraine if I didn't take the medicine. I'm so very grateful for my friend.
Avatar f tn Usually when I get 9/10 or 10/10 headaches, it will not work. The kind of headaches where I stop being me. The kind of headaches where I am at risk to myself (I've accidentally harmed myself before when trying to stop the pain). The kind of headaches I used to always go to the hospital for. Anyway, it's those headaches where the Zomig does nothing. For those headaches, I use Imitrex Injection.
Avatar f tn I have had migraines w/aura for 30 years. Also TMJ headaches, headaches w/out aura, and about 15 years ago I started having headaches almost daily accompanied by exhaustion, and over time, a host of other physical illnesses. I eventually discovered on my own that these headaches were caused by canola oil and soybean/vegetable oil and soybean products that if in small amts needed to actually build up in my system over several days to cause the headache.
937140 tn?1246013288 I have frequent migraines and I do take Maxalt and fiornail. They both work well for my headaches. The Maxalt is very expensive, even with medical insurance. I've heard that magnesium will help with the headaches as well, but be sure to check with your doctor first.

Here is a good site with migraine info. http://www.achenet.org/ And you need to get your migraine "bible" I got mine off of half.com cheap. This book helped me a lot in understanding my headaches and lots of good info.
Avatar f tn i have tried taking darvocett, maxalt, excederin migraine and none of these are working. I had a CT scan and thats where they found the sinus infection. Could there be any underlying problems for the persistant migraines. It is keepin me away from work. I am normally a very healthy person who does not take any medicines. what should I do.
Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.
Avatar m tn For the past several months now I have been having these on and off again headaches. When I was younger I had Migraines and was on imatrex for that. Age for that was 15-20, then for a few years I was free of the headaches and all that comes with them. Now in April 08 I started with headaches that felt sinus in nature with some issues with my ear. I was placed on Clairton and rhinocurt. (sp) That was great and did help a great amount. Now into June, I started to get this achy headache.
1102283 tn?1257817472 It is often advised that over-the-counter analgesics should be avoided since they are usually not very effective and can often cause rebound headaches. Although, there are other analgesics that can be used if the headaches are very severe such as barbiturates and opiates. These medications are not usually as effective for migraine headaches, and they can have high side-effect profiles and high-dependency profiles. Also, I am fairly sure that barbiturates can cause rebound headaches too.
Avatar f tn I had been on Topamax for almost three years. Suddenly in end of January my headaches came back. I was weaned off of the Topomax to Amitryptaline 100mg at night to prevent the headaches. It was also noted that I had an AVM on the left periatal lobe of the brain in addition to a cavernous hemangioma on the right frontal lobe. My headaches have continued despite the increase of Amitryptaline. Last night I had such a terrible headache I could not sleep.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with migraine headaches when I was a teenager. I am in my early thirties and they seem to be getting progressively worse with age. Now when I get a really bad migraine I throw up all day and cannot keep anything down even water. I have even passed out the day after such headaches. I have noticed that I am also having have tremors. They do not occur all the time but their frequency seems to be increasing also.
1334481 tn?1276697078 Hello Everyone, I'm 22 and just graduated University. I have been having migraines since I was about 7 years old now. However, over the years they have seemed to get much worse. I thought that the higher frequency could have been from my lack of sleep and bad diet that I had throughout high school and college. Now that I have been out of college for over a month now the migraines haven't seemed to subside.
Avatar f tn First has anyone ever checked you for food allergies or intolerances gluten(wheat, barley, rye) and dairy are huge migraine triggers. (some other triggers can include nitrates/nitrites-- processed meat, high fructose corn syrup, caffeine, soy, nuts, and sulfates/sulfites) You might want to keep a food diary if you have done so in the past. Also if you have anything w/artificial sweetener this could cause all your symptoms. (I cannot even have a 1/2 piece of sugarless gum.
Avatar m tn I am not on Coumadin 5mg a day, and i have to go every week for my PR-INR. I also have horrable migraine headaches all the time. I am currently taking Maxalt-MLT for the migraines, the only way that i can take the medication is if i take it and go to sleep. Most of the time i will wake up for with a headaches that is worse then the one that i had when i went to bed. I just don't know why my headaches are worse now then what they were before.
655875 tn?1295695107 ve been also taking percocet in place of the maxalt, but it does not work as well for the headaches. Is there something I can do to try and prevent these migraines? Are there other natural alternatives rather then medication?
4980051 tn?1361868778 Hello. I have SEVERE migraines at least 3 times a week, and headaches daily. Does anyone know of a good medication that will work for Migraines besides Topomax? I cannot take it, as there are side effects that are dangerous to me.
Avatar n tn ve been getting the headaches/migraines about once every two weeks. I take maxalt and fiorinal and the maxalt works much better. The fiorinal does not make a huge difference, so I rarely take it.
Avatar f tn I was given Benadryl, Reglan and Toradol which made me feel terrible by an ER doctor. My personal physician prescribed Maxalt which greatly improved the onset of headaches when I read or am exposed to loud sounds or lights (overhead or outdoors--I always were sunglasses now.) However, I cannot taste anything sweet--grape juice taste like bad wine and 7-up taste like salty carbonated water. What can I do or stop doing to return to normal?
