Avatar f tn I had been on Topamax for almost three years. Suddenly in end of January my headaches came back. I was weaned off of the Topomax to Amitryptaline 100mg at night to prevent the headaches. It was also noted that I had an AVM on the left periatal lobe of the brain in addition to a cavernous hemangioma on the right frontal lobe. My headaches have continued despite the increase of Amitryptaline. Last night I had such a terrible headache I could not sleep.
4980051 tn?1361868778 Depending on the kind of migraines you get, you need to investigate the medications. The ones I have dealt with my doctor confirmed are both migraines and cluster headaches. She gave me Amitriptyline, to take one every night. It is actually an antidepressant, but taken in low dosage, also treats severe headaches and assists with good sleeping. Mine is a 25 mg. I also take Singulair, which is for Allergies, but my doctor told me that allergies can bring on very bad headaches as well.
Avatar m tn almost every day for the past 6 years I have headaches, I am 20 years old with an overall good health. 6 years ago I was diagnosed with migraines, that same year I had done a electroecephalogram and everything came back good. . but the headaches were still there. they did stoped for about 1 year after that period but have been coming back almost every day for the past 3 years... I feel a pressure on either of the eyes, sometimes palpitation of the temporal sides..
Avatar m tn The headache your wife is suffering from may indeed be caused by primary headaches such as migraine headache or cluster headaches, hemicrania continua, and even post traumatic headache. If the medications she is not taking are not helpful, inform your doctor about this for proper management. Further evaluation may need to be done also to help determine the underlying cause. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Headaches can be caused by a variety of reasons often categorized into primary headaches, secondary headaches, and cranial neuralgias. The primary headaches include tension headache, migraine cluster headaches and similar pathologies. Secondary causes can be due to sinusitis eye problems, etc and the cranial neuralgias that include the trigeminal neuralgias. Without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to differentiate between these or suggest specific management.
Avatar f tn I have been having really bad headaches for about 2 years now. I am 17 years old and have never had any medical issues before. My doctor had givin me 2 different pills and neither of them wil stop the pain. She also told me to get my eyes checked out. I now have glasses but they havent helped with the pain either. As of September 2009, I have been feeling like something inside my head is popping or exploding followed by a really sharp pain that puts me in tear almost every time.
Avatar m tn Like with severe migraines, over-the-counter medications do absolutely nothing to touch the pain of a cluster headache. Maxalt is not a triptan that works on cluster headaches. The only two triptans that work on cluster headaches are Zomig Nasal Spray and Imitrex Injection. I would suggest asking your doctor for prescriptions for these triptans in order to try, starting with the Zomig Nasal Spray as no one likes to give themselves injections... so, leave the Imitrex Injection for last.
Avatar f tn I have cluster headaches and they can't do anything for me either. Have you tried muscle relaxer that's what they put me on. It's didn't really me nothing I take does. There are rare occasions when it does help. Ask your doctor if those might help unless you already tried. I hope you get the help you need I know how frustrating it can be for the pain not to go away.
1230912 tn?1273492770 The script is for 500mg and I looked it up yesterday to see that it was just Aleve in presciption form which is why I am dumbfounded since I was on 800mg of ibuprofen. I do have better luck with presciption drugs compared to OTC because Advil does nothing compared to my precription ibuprofen. I just wish we could have started on the preventatives instead of the anti-inflammatory which we know does nothing. Plus the traMadol which I am already on, duh!
Avatar n tn Hello Kalvin. Thanks for your input. The maxalt is for when I am really bad ( once a month or so ). As for a specialist of any kind, we are in the same place a lot of people are right now. No extra means for anything. Oh well, such is life. Thanks again for your responce.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn My first 2pregnacys they also gave me vicoden for when migranes were unbearable. This pregnancy my Dr told me I could also take maxalt( I was told w my first 2 that maxalt was not safe AT ALL) after doing some research I decided against maxalt but am continuing firocet.
Avatar f tn Aside from migraine, another primary headache that we can consider is cluster headache. Cluster headaches present with excruciating pain in vicinity of eye. The pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. The attacks may occur every day for weeks then disappear for up to a year. Try to avoid smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages. If it persists despite the medication given by your doctor, you may benefit from further evaluation. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn If there was no history of trauma to the head or neck, this could be due to primary headaches such as cluster headache. Cluster headaches present with pain in the vicinity of the eye with associated tearing, nose congestion, or flushing of face. The pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. Attacks occur every day then disappear for a time. If this persists, have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation.
Avatar n tn Headaches are of different types like tension, migraine, sinus and cluster headaches. Your headaches seem to be coming in cycles with either pain free interval or reduced intensity. They seem like cluster headaches. Please see these two links for more information on them. http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cause-cluster-headache.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cluster-headache-treatments.
1130095 tn?1267369259 I was diagnosed about 6 months ago but have been trying different treatments and meds for the last 5 years...
Avatar n tn A year ago I was diagnosed as having cluster headaches and was told that my headaches had changed. I would get bouts of 4 and 5 day headaches that wouldn't respond to Maxalt or Imitrex. I would have DHE treatments, oxygen treatments and even steroid treatments. The steroid treatments seemed to help and provided releif for the days I was on steroids. The past few months the headaches have returned with a vengence. I was put back on a 5 day steroid treatment which didn't help.
655875 tn?1295695107 When I take the Maxalt, it will stop the migraine an instant about an hour after taking the medicine. The maxalt has been a miracle drug for my headaches and I normally only have to take one in a day. This is one of the very few medicines that my body will tolerate without any problems. The Maxalt must still be working because I'm still very sick to my stomach. I bet I'd still have the migraine if I didn't take the medicine. I'm so very grateful for my friend.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed 18 months ago w/ drug dependent cluster headaches (localized to front right temple 90% of the time) due to an overuse of naproxen sodium (old sports injuries). I finally went to the doc after I had a headache for 2 weeks straight and the vision in one of my eyes 'smeared'....scared the hell out of me. Got an MRI....while waiting for the results, I had an episode that I described to the doctors and they agreed was a local seizure in my right arm.
Avatar m tn My father has been suffering from cluster headaches for about 20 years or so. He is 77 years old. They seem to come on around November and stay until March. They are really severe on him. The Dr. gave him Ultram 50 mg. But that don't help him at all. Can you recommend anything he can try? Are there any trials out? Thank you for any help.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have cluster headaches? How do you deal with them? What pain killers help you best? I missed so many classes this first year at college because my cluster cycle was so severe I couldn't get out of bed. OTC medications don't do anything for my pain and my doctors don't want me taking anything too strong do to a minor heart problem I have.
Avatar f tn Anyone else diagnosed with cluster headaches before pregnancy? If so do you find yourself experiencing them more now that you're pregnant? I get them, usually between December and March, but last night I started with one and it still hasn't gone away.
Avatar f tn this causes the ligaments and tendons to be lax, subluxations and joint pain) I used to get migraines, but they changed into cluster headaches ( I think). i havent noticed a pattern in frequency or figured out an initial cause, (my neck is getting an MRI soon to see if there is a problem caused by the EDS.) They always are the same though. Mid-late morning I dont really have pain but i know one's coming.
1088430 tn?1259159773 t recognize Botox as a standard treatment for migraine headaches and the government will ONLY pay for what they consider "standard treatments" (so, the generic, most commonly prescribed form of a treatment), and in this case the government considers the daily treatments such as antidepressants, anticonvulsants and beta blockers the standard treatments for migraine headaches.
