424861 tn?1203455151 I am a massage therapist, actually I am just graduating this year, it has been a rough year because I also have fibro, my teachers did not really understand the disease until having me as a student and we were able to find immeasurable amounts of info on the benefits of massage for fibromyalgia patients.
1839746 tn?1318546806 Since I do not know what type of massage you are getting, I would say subtle Aromatherapy massage combined with Lymphatic massage would be best suited, to my opinion. Should your therapist be knowledgeable with Chakras , then you would have the added benefit of Energy re-balancing. I would avoid deep tissue, Shiatzu and Swedish for the time being. My update: Second day of "pleuritis"(self-diagnosed) with substantially less pain and much easier to breathe.
Avatar f tn Hope something of this helps you out, go ahead and focus on the idea that you have fibromyalgia and get better pain relief for it, and get some physical treatment for your shoulder and neck area. Go for your rescan in six months, but put it on the back burner in your mind. Keep us posted if you like, and perhaps someone else might throw their two cents in.

Other alternative therapies such as massage, chiropractic therapies, therapeutic touch, certain herbal therapies, and dietary approaches have the potential to alleviate pain in some cases. However, the evidence supporting these therapies is less concrete.

Avatar f tn Saturday April 18, 2009 Did you know that some fibromyalgia (FMS) pain may be caused by low blood flow to our muscles? The medical name for that is ischemia (ih-SKEE-mee-ah). We've had some limited evidence of ischemia in FMS for a few years, and it's an area that researchers are pursuing. Basically, muscles hurt and can't work right when they don't get enough blood and the oxygen it carries - think of how hard it is to walk after your foot has fallen asleep!
