Low blood sugar after glucose tolerance test

Common Questions and Answers about Low blood sugar after glucose tolerance test

Avatar n tn I have been seeing an endocrinologist because I am constantly having low blood sugar readings and have had a high fasting blood glucose test of 8.3. My endocrinologist feels this may be due to my dysautonomia. She thought maybe reactive hypoglycemia because I am having low fasting glucose levels as well as high. I went for a 2hr OGTT today and I am feeling horrible after the test. My baseline was 4.8 @ 8:55 Given 75g of glucose to drink At 4.3 @ 9:25 At 4.8 @ 9:55 At 6.2 @ 10:25 At 6.
Avatar f tn re concerned, you could get your HgA1c checked, which would give you an idea of your average blood sugars over the past 3 months or a glucose tolerance test, where you drink a sugary concoction and then test your blood sugars periodically to see how your blood sugars respond. Again, I wouldn't go crazy at this point.
Avatar f tn I have a glucose tolerance test tomorrow & I have not been given any information on or about it. My mum has rang my GP surgery this morning for info and they have told her that i can't have a cigarette after 10pm tonight until I have had my 2nd blood test... is this right? No hate please about smoking in pregnancy I just want advice because surely a cigarette has nothing to do with my sugar tolerance...
Avatar n tn I looked on the American Diabetes website and there is an OGTT test- is that the test--meaning oral glucose tolerance test. This is what they say about those results. OGTT test, a person's blood glucose level is measured after a fast and two hours after drinking a glucose-rich beverage. If the two-hour blood glucose level is between 140 and 199 mg/dl, the person tested has pre-diabetes. If the two-hour blood glucose level is at 200 mg/dl or higher, the person tested has diabetes.
Avatar f tn Without proper testing results one assumption is you experienced reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia [or alimentary hypoglycemia] is low glucose [blood sugar] that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Try the following: • Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, no more than three hours apart. • Eat a well-balanced diet including lean and nonmeat sources of protein and high-fiber foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
1057195 tn?1289363329 Hi ladies, have anyone taken the glucose tolerance test as yet. I am scheduled to have mines on the 29 of April. At my last vist my OB said I have glucose in my urine. She said it could be because I had just eaten before my visit. Has this happened to anyone?
Avatar f tn I take my test tomorrow but I read on here and else where that most fail their 1 hour test and pass the 3 hour test.
Avatar f tn I got mine last week it's only a blood test nothing to worry about
390388 tn?1279636213 So a glucose tolerance test has to be done to tell whether or not the cells are getting the glucose. If the blood sugar is too high after a meal then the glucose is still floating around in the blood stream and not getting to the cells as it should. The pancreas will keep pumping out insulin so eventually it goes back down to a normal level and that explains why it's not uncommon for people to be a type 2 diabetic for years and not know it.
Avatar f tn Because if your glucose is too on the screening test you will need to take the full glucose tolerance test (diagnostic test). Which is a pain. I failed my 1 hour test (1 point too high) so had to do the full three hour test. For this you do have to fast for at least 8-10 hours before the test. You have to drink twice as much sugar water (100 gm). And you have to wait there while they take multiple blood samples in that ttime.
9810248 tn?1406027066 24weeks!!! Next week I have to do that glucose tolerance test!!!! Anybody took it already? Please let me know what flavor you and how was it.
875426 tn?1325528416 t matter if the patient has been fasting or the test is random [excludes OGTT [oral glucose tolerance test]]. A doctor may perform random glucose 'blood' testing to see if glucose varies widely throughout the day. Healthy peeps do not.
Avatar n tn How much the sugar varies from before meal to after meal seems to be the issue here. The glucose tolerance test is the correct test to see how your body reacts to high levels of carbohydrates. It does sound to me as if you perhaps vary more than is ideal, for a low of 57 or high of 256 is something that even diabetics try to avoid.
Avatar m tn You say you were tested for diabetes? Well, sometimes low blood sugar can cause the sleepiness after eating, have you had a glucose tolerance test performed?
Avatar n tn Most doctors will do a fasting glucose reading, perhaps a glucose tolerance test, or perhaps a hemoglobin a1c test, which would show the average glucose level in your body during a 3-month period. That really is the best test to find out whether your body is usually maintaining healthy glucose levels or not.
Avatar n tn I am a 23 year old female and have been having PVC's (premature ventricular contractions). I first noticed palpitations two years ago. It feels like your heart is skipping a beat yet there is a very powerful heartbeat afterwards. Sometimes mine are accompanied by shortness of breath, especially if I have several in one minute. I had a normal EKG at my primary care physician last year and no follow up, so I just tried to forget about about it. This year they returned.
1209036 tn?1299178657 During this second test, called the 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test, your blood glucose level will be tested four times during a three-hour period after drinking the cola-like drink. If two out of the four blood tests are abnormal, you are considered to have gestational diabetes.
Avatar n tn I was just informed I needed to do a 3 hour glucose tolerance test because my one hour was "very high" at 191. I have a calibrated glucometer and I've done finger/arm tests throughout the day and have not had anything remotely abnormal. I had a fasting blood sugar level of 93 first thing in the AM and all my levels after eating were 135 or below. Could the 191 have been error?
Avatar n tn m also thinking of performing my own glucose tolerance test and was wondering if there was anything I could drink to replace the glucola bottle.
Avatar n tn "i had a blood sugar test (the finger ***** one) and my level was "perfect"." If you had soap or alcohol residue on your finger the test results would be imperfect. If the meter was old and mishandled, uncalibrated, test strips expired the test would results would be imperfect. The OGTT is one way to help determine blood glucose levels. Be sure to fast 8-10 hours prior. No food or colored liquids during this period. Don't cheat. Just a little bit skewers the results.
Avatar n tn Hello, truely normal fasting blood sugar is in the low 80s. So your fasting number is truely a little high, and I think your doctor is being cautious and safe in wanting your to monitor. Hihg fasting blood sugar can precede high post eating numbers. I think getting a meter and monitroing your food and response of blood sugar toeating is a good idea. You can then make sure your numbers do stay good and take action early if they happen to rise. I am not a big fan of 'diabetic' diet.
Avatar f tn I've been hypoglycemic (have low blood sugar) since I was very little. You need to have peanut butter crackers or some almonds on hand at all times if you're getting low blood sugar. Gum will only help for a little while. Candies and stuff are high in sugar but they don't last as long. The protein in nuts and peanut butter raises your sugar and keeps it up for a good while.
