Avatar f tn To remove doubt ask your doctor for an A1c [HA1c, HbA1c] test. Or you can purchase an OTC A1c test kit for under $30 at your local drug store or pharmacy like Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid or Walmart. This is a simple blood test requiring no fasting and can be taken any time of the day. You can Google A1c to understand how and why this test is undertaken.
1058898 tn?1275675151 I have not been told if i have diabetes but my Dr. told me to watch my blood sugar because im having symptoms of hypo. When i get the fealing of low it is around 80 and it will keep dropping. the last time it went to 67 and i had to eat some thing i couldnt wait. i had a cup of oj and checked in 15 min and it went to 137.
Avatar m tn t explain the A1C test to you. It is an average of your blood sugars over a 3 month period. Normal is about 5-6 I believe. 6.8 is diabetic. Now how did you get your a1c without a doctor ordering the test?? Do you remember what you ate 2 hours before you got that 400 reading? Did you check it again just to be sure? I bet you had a meal with possibly a lot of starch and carbohydrates? Bread, potatoes, maybe a rich dessert? or your portion size was a little more then it should be?

Avatar f tn I'm a 23 year old female, I'm obese though I have lost 60 lbs in the last year, and I have been having some symptoms that worry me. I have previously been diagnosed with PCOS. The doctor put me on Metformin and Yasmin, though I stopped taking the Metformin because it made me feel ill. That was over four years ago. At the time, my fasting blood sugar was 101, but I had eaten some ice cream at the beginning of the eight hour period. I had my fasting blood sugar tested again two weeks ago.
Avatar n tn Do you have lows that make your blood sugar average out to 6.2? There is a forumula that shows what average blood sugars are for each A1C but I can't find it at the moment. I would try the other things I mention before adding another med.
Avatar m tn Normally, glucose attaches to blood cells over the life of a blood cells. Like a tick on a dog. When the A1C test is taken there are gobs of glucose on these cells. The result is a high A1C result. When you are on treatment the ribavirin kills the blood cells at an early age so that they don't mature and accumulate gobs of glucose. As a result A1C test results may be artifically better during treatment even though you are eating everthing bad in sight.
187666 tn?1331173345 an A1C is a 3 month range of what your blood sugars are doing. The standard test is what is blood sugar was at the time of the blood withdrawal. Hope that helps. Sounds like his A1C is awesome and you shouldn't worry.
Avatar f tn A lot of doctors are now just taking a blood sample for a test called A1C. The A1C test is a common blood test used to diagnose type 1 and type 2 diabetes and then to gauge how well you're managing your diabetes. The A1C test goes by many other names, including glycated hemoglobin, glycosylated hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1C and HbA1c. The A1C test result reflects your average blood sugar level for the past two to three months.
Avatar n tn You're a bit over normal. One should aim for <5%. An Hba1c [A1c, HbA1c] of 5.4% equates to daily blood sugar of 108 mg/dl [6 mmol/l], prediabetes. Normal blood sugar range is 60/70 to 99 mg/dl [3.33/3.88 to 5.5 mmol/l].
Avatar n tn 6 (this is according to Bernstein - and I have followed him for about 6 years now and find him and the research his work is based on very rational). Typically average blood sugar for such a person is in the low 80s-90s and with very little variability (75 - 105 range). This is based on a recent paper I read which continuously monitored the blood sugar people with diabetes).
Avatar f tn I do have a glucose monitor and it is usually under 120 two hours after eating, but this morning it was 141 when I took a fasting blood sugar test, I did have an avacado, healthy choice fudge bar (I cheated) pasta and peanuts! Just wondering doesn't a person build up a resistance to metformin and need more and more, or does metformin eventually stop working? I am so guilty of not exercising enough! I work full time and my excuse is that I am too tired to walk.
Avatar m tn I recommend getting a meter and beginning to test your fasting blood sugar (you want it, ideally under 100) and your blood sugar two hours after eating and those numbers should be under 140. Do not be discouraged if right now they are way higher than that as your A1C indicates. You might have had diabetes for awhile. With the right combination of lowered carbs, weight loss, exercise and medication they will start to come down.
Avatar m tn (STILL HAVE A WAYS TO GO ON THE WEIGHT) most recent blood results were fasting 114, a1c 6.2 hgb a1c (6 months average) 7.7. ,Doctor still wants me on meds. really want to stay on diet and ex. program. what do you think. PS still get that light headed wobbley feeling once in a while.
Avatar n tn The Doctor and I have the blood sugar under control (89 to 130) But the a1c seems to keep in th range of 7.7 to 8.1. I'I'm taking actos, vytrin, and glyburide. Is there anything else I can be doing? This discussion is related to How do i lower my hemoglobin A1c?.
Avatar n tn I went in there and searched for blood sugar readings and it came up eventually. Sorry my link didnt work again. Can't figure that.
490398 tn?1319940717 First off, you don't need to fast for an A1c test. And you can't make a decision based upon a non-fasting glucose reading except to understand what you consumed pushed your glucose level into the unacceptable range. Vitamin Water contains unacceptable amounts of sugar. Read the label and stop drinking it. Continue with the morning testing after fasting. Keep a log and provide a copy to your doctor to not only review but also to keep with your medical records.
Avatar m tn Every year I go for routine check up and i am a little confused with my blood sugar test results. I have been monitoring my results since 2007. back in 2007 normal range in Canada was 3.6-6.0. Since then it has changed to 3.6-5.5 my results in the last few years have been as follows: 2007 : fasting 5.8 A1C 5.6 2008 : fasting 5.4 A1C 5.7 2009 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.9 (at home on meter 4.7) 2010 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.7 2011 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.7 2012 : fasting 5.9 A1C 5.5 2013 : fasting 5.
Avatar m tn unfortunately testing for diabetes by A1c and fasting or random test (random test gives random results) is not very good. sort of like checking a boat for leaks in dry dock. you need GTT test Glucose tolerance test to see how you react to sugar.
Avatar n tn to end this anxiety over being a diabetic or not, the esiest way is to buy a self-test kit called A1C Now, made by Bayer, at Walmart for $23USD, follow instruction, then within 5-10 minutes, voila , here is your A1c reading if your A1c is between 5.6% to 6.4%,then according to the US Health Dept you are a pre-diabetic and so on...Good luck.
Avatar m tn 121 mg/dl Your postprandial 142 mg/dl shows diabetes but is not an absolute indicator. You will need to ask your doctor for an A1c [HgbA1c, HbA1c] test to verify diabetes. Your results are presented in % [percentile]. You want between 4 and 5%. Not certain about India but elsewhere in the world A1c home test kits are available for consumer purchase at local pharmacies/drug store.
