I have to take a 3 hour blood sugar test I'm nervous and scared :/ for whoever done it before how was it ?
Oh... They draw your blood, then draw your blood again in an hour then again in another hour if you're doing the two hour. If it's a three hour test then one mere draw after another hour. You get your blood drawn, then sit and wait... No drinking anything but water, no chewing gum, no eating a mint and my fave they remind you of is no smoking haha duh I'm pregnant I'm not gonna smoke! Then you're done.
Did the drink they give you for your one hour glucose test made anyone else feel really weird. The drink went down good I like the taste everything then I started getting really bad heart burn, my legs started feeling very heavy / tingly and my face went numb (like when you have drankntoo much alcohal) then after the test I felt really dizzy. And when I got home I threw up just wondering if anyone else had a negative reaction to the drink??
Just relax lol all I can offer. Docs told me to eat before but everyone I know ate before the test failed the first 1hr test and had to take the 3hr test. I didn't eat, because moms recommended and sure enough I passed, but if its too late for that then just relax. Everything will be fine. And the drink, at least mines, wasn't bad. It tasted like a hi-c orange drink.
Thanks for your response! I fasted for 11 hours because my eyes refused to stay open past 9:30 pm. I'm here at the lab and just finished my 3rd blood draw. The first hour after the first blood draw and glucose drink was the WORST! Thankfully I didn't throw up but I almost did. They let me drink some water which helped. I'm praying that my tests come back ok and I don't have gestational diabetes. Good luck to you!
How did u get on in your test? I have to fast from midnight and go to clinic at 8.30 where they'll test my sugar level then give me the drink then wait 2 hours and be tested again and I'll get a light snack at 11.30 before I leave. I'm not looking forward to it.
I went for a glucose test last week. I was told not to eat or drink anything and to be at the hospital by 8.00am or earlier. So I woke up and drove to the hospital. This was my second test. I had one 4wks ago and passed but the doctor wanted to monitor my development coz my levels were 8.3 in e first test. If your levels are 9 and above then you are in trouble. God bless!
I took my 1 hr glucose test- I had black coffee prior to the drinking the glucose drink, then 1 hr of nothing and my blood draw. My level came back at 65. My midwiNenmade a passing comment about it bein low and watching for symptoms of lightheadedness but wasn't concerned.
What were your numbers if you were deemed low blood sugar? Any other symptoms? Thanks!
the night before my appt i wasnt allowed to eat past midnight. then when i got there they did a fasting draw to test my blood sugar after fasting, then they give you the "juice" its almost like pure sugar lol it made my baby do flips. its really a liquid glucose supplement, i had orange flavor, kind of tasted like orange soda, without the carbonation. then i had to wait an hour, do another blood draw, then i had to wait another hour to do another blood draw. it flew by fast.
Hopefully you don't have to take the 3 hour test then cause that drink has twice te sugar in it and it's way more disgusting than the first one. Good luck!
I tried the fruit punch flavored drink, it wasn't too horrible! All of the drinks just taste like sugar. I didn't pass the first glucose test and its because I had a very sugary breakfast. If I would have known I wouldn't have eaten before! I did the 3 hour test and passed but the 3 hour test is terrible!
They give you a drink (generally flavored) that is high in sugar. Once you finish the drink you wait an hour from that time to get your blood taken. Sometimes (as was with my case) the test comes back higher than they would like and your doctor will recommend the 3-hour version. This is the not fun one. It is fairly common and nothing to worry about if they do recommend it.
They preform it like surgery, no food or drinks 12 hours before the test.
Glucose test is to measure your sugar levels and you fail if your sugar is too high. You just drink a drink, wait an hour, and then they take your blood. For the one hour one, you can fail simply because you had to much sugar the night before or that morning, so you may want to limit sugar intake before hand in order to pass. If you fail the 3 hour one, which is the follow up test, it most likely means you have gestational diabetes.
