Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor and food interactions

lipitor

Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar n tn My husband is 59 years old. He has a previous diagnosis of hypertension and elevated cholesterol. He is taking Lipitor 10 mg. daily and Aldomet 250 mg. BID. After examining my husband the Dr. diagnosed him with Parkinson’s disease. The Dr. prescribed Levodopa 500 mg. OD. What would be an accurate analysis of the interactions of "parkinson's disease" + hypertension + high cholesterol?

My balance was already damage from the benzo's and alcohol abuse. Lately some of you might have read my last thread that I haven't been feeling well. Avatar n tn I have my pharmacy (Walgreens) alert me if there is ever any evidence of drug interactions. Then they can discuss this with me and/or with my doctor.
Avatar m tn A lot depends on current health status and associated drugs/medicines currently taken as some drugs cause interactions with other drugs which can raise glucose levels. GIYF - Google Is Your Friend - use it to locate specific drug interactions and/or contraindications.
Avatar m tn There are some web sites out there that let you input all your meds and supplements, and check for side effects and adverse interactions. Another good source of information is your local pharmacist.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I came off of Imdur 60 mg twice a day and a nitro patch. It was working but now I get real bad heartburn and my GERD (acid reflux) is back. Has any one had a similar experience? Here is a listing of my meds. Any help appreciated.
Avatar n tn my husband (60) has Type II diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol which are being managed very well by Lipitor, Lisenpril, Actos and Metformin. Before he was diagnosed (2004) we enjoyed Ecstasy maybe once every 1 or 2 yrs. It was an amazing experience for both of us, our relationship, our communication. As older adults we managed the experience (reliable source for E, hydration, calm location) carefully and respectfully.

Avatar m tn I asked the person in chare of the hep c treatment and all i got was you should take Riba with food so grapfruit is ok. I don't think they had a clue.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
Avatar f tn The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.

Today's FDA safety communication follows label changes announced Tuesday that added cautions about new onset diabetes and transient memory problems for users of any of the cholesterol-lowering drugs in the statin class.
Avatar n tn If hypothyrodism can cause high cholesterol is it not better to take thyorid hormone replacement than Lipitor?
Avatar n tn These are metals which you consume in food and assist the nervous system in conductivity. A lack can cause shakes and make you feel somewhat lethargic. I used to take a tonic years ago, I think it was metatone tonic which was a syrup containing all kinds of metals. It was like a magic medicine, really boosting you. Not sure if anything like that is still available.
Avatar f tn I now believe my RLS was in fact an early reaction to Lipitor and that my back and neck pain, etc. are an indication of increasing toxicity from statins. Is this an accurate assessment? I need to know what my next steps are. I can't tolerate taking statins any longer.
Avatar n tn My pressure was at 193/82 and 187/85 when I awoke with these symptoms. I currently take lipitor, synthroid, atenenol and furosamide. There has been no adjustments to these since increasing minoxidil. My diuretic is taken at the same time w/minoxidil at 6:30 am and again at 6:pm. My answer from the doctors office to my symptoms was to let it take it's course for another week.
Avatar m tn Likewise, I was never told to avoid taking anything with my levothyroxine besides food and calcium/multivitamin (basically just not at the same time, but I could still have a multivitamin). I've also never had a problem taking benedryl (besides that it knocks me out) or any other drug with my hypothyroid meds. Avatar n tn You can ask him to have you try Lipitor (generic) and there is now a generic Niaspan. I know because my husband is on it. You should try to change your diet to no oil and more plant based less meat or no meat and whole grains. You actually will get enough protein. No cheese because that has loads of fat. That will help with the cholesterol, blood pressure and weight. If you don't want to that is ok. I have a website you can read or a book www.drmcdougall.
Avatar m tn As far as food im not sure look at your lable and the print out that came with your meds. I do know that asprin is forbidden.
